So I posted a little bit ago about an elephant made out of sculpey. Well, I took everyone's advice and I just winged it. This took about two hours to make, excluding baking time. I detailed him with gel pen and sharpie.

i'm very proud of him! )

Okay, so, I distinctly remember the mod saying these posts were frowned upon, but so many others have done them and they weren't deleted, so I'm just going to give this is a shot. If this is deleted though, I'm not gonna make a stink about it.

You know those glass globs/fish rocks? Well, I had a bunch of them in various vases with bamboo, but I've since put my bamboo in natural stones, so now I have this MASSIVE plastic bag where I combined all my "fish rocks" for some brilliant idea I assumed was coming.

That idea never game.

I seriously have a few pounds of the stuff. Can ANY of you give me any creative ideas of what to do with them? Obviously something besides filling vases with them because that's what I've always done. I was thinking of making a glass mosaoic (I bet I spelled that wrong) with them, but I was told that they wouldn't work so well because they're "bubbly" at the top and not flat. I just can't stand the idea though of throwing them all away.

So, if you've done something creative with them before and you wanna share some ideas with me, or if you just know of a good link that has a tutorial on something interesting, I'd love it if you shot some of that info my way. :)

Thhhhhaaaaaaaaaank you. :)

This is the reason I posted asking about how button stuffies were connected the other day.
Image hosting by Photobucket
This was inspired by a stuffed animal I saw at a thrift store. I actually want to make Corgi stuffies like this. I thought the arms and legs attached to the front was killer adorable! Soon after seeing that stuffie I saw a sculpted sheep pin in this basic design and decided "Oooo I want one of THOSE!!" so obsessed over it and made it. I had trouble figuring out how I wanted the head, but I think the buttons look cute!

It's actually made piece by piece, and was sewn, and glued together. I think later trying out a wagging tail design will be a cute addition! I've been thinking about plans for that. The other day at another thrift store I found a bear pin in this type of design holding roses I nabbed for a buck... so cute! ;0P I adore the whimsical "Country themed" craft type things, and this design reminds me of my Greant Aunt on the Dairy farms household decorations.
Cut to hide more dorky dog stuff ;) )

HELP!

I need help with iron ons.

I know you can buy sheets to print things out with and then iron them onto t-shirts and such.. but what brand should I buy?

One time I bought a really bad brand and it got all cracked, and another time I bought a really good brand and it's still never cracked or torn even through the wash. That was a long time ago, however, and now I hope someone can give some advice before I make a trip out to the craft store :D

Thanks so much, you guys rock.

Hello. This summer, to break up the monotony of full time work to which my soft student lifestyle is not accustomed, I made a reversible duvet cover and matching pillows. It would be just fantastic if you would click the link to see.

i'm attempting to make my first wig with double ended dreads.
i've read through the tutorial on quinnster (http://quinnster.fqdn.net/dreads/dreadfairywig.html)
but i'm a little confused about the part when you actually sew them on.

i'm just starting to dread some hair, so i figure it'll be a while before i get to that part, but does anyone have any tips?

Okay, so I have this pair of REALLY cute boots, but they are silver, and I realized I'd probably be more likely to wear them if they were at least MOSTLY black. Is there a sort of paint I could use over the silver vinyl to make them black? I'm thinking either trying to do them solid black or maybe even a spongy effect, so some of the silver would remain....I live in the NW, so it rains often here, and I want to make sure whatever I use won't run when it gets wet...

thoughts?? I looked in the memories but all I could find was painting leather or canvas, I'm not sure if vinyl requires something different! :)

Thanks! (and if a picture is absolutely required for posts, let me know and I'll just grab a picture of the boots for the fun of it! hehe)

Hey crafty girls!

I know it's been ages since I posted anything, but I've been busy working on my thesis for my masters degree...I finally have had some time to get sewing and crafting again, though, so I thought I'd show you what I've been up to! Still mostly making stuff from felt and organic cotton...

In some misguided attempt to get more people to donate blood, the Red Cross gave out some pretty wretched little bag/sack things to people who donated. Luckily, it had a wide vinyl band at the bottom, so I chopped it off to see if my sewing machine could handle the material:)
This odd bird patch-thing is the result! Does anyone have any advice on locking in machine-stitching with this stuff? When I backstich, it's very noticeable and ugly:P
burrrd!

This past week has been winter break which really just means craft time. My sister bought me a gigantic Led Zeppelin shirt from Hot Topic for 8$ to reconstruct. I totally resized the shirt, added runching to the left side and some strappy straps to the right. The bottom has this cool gathering thing going on. Detail shots, Shorts, shuttleCock cozy, and 4 hats under the cut...

so I’m not sure if this will be allowed or if anyone can help me.

ok so i have to somehow create an art piece of my "looking-glass self" for my sociology class and i am at a complete loss for ideas of what i could do.

so if anyone could give me some ideas it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

**edit**
here's the definiton of looking-glass self

"Looking Glass Self- the process of developing a self-image on the basis of the messages we get from others, as we understand them. There are three components to the looking glass self: 1.We imagine how we appear to others; 2. We imagine what their judgment of that appearance must be; 3. We develop some self-feeling, such as pride or mortification, as a result of our imagining others' judgment."

Hello again! Since you had to deal with a text only post about stupid glass globs *laughs* I decided I should show you guys how you've ALREADY inspired me. :)

Hey all. ^^ My first post here... This took me a whole week to make, about 30 hours of labor, four shirts, and a lot of patience. =] I took apart all the shirts by a seamripper, and 's all handsewn, as I can't trust myself with the machine yet. Hehe. The finished product is quite heavy (it's a whole whopping pound), as it's technically the weight of almost four shirts, but I'm still really happy with the way it turned out. I'm planning to make more in the future, but these are SO time consuming...

Take a peek and leave me some comments! Thanks.

I painted a tarot box with one of my favorite Rider Waite cards the Hermit. The pics don't show it well but there is alot of iridescent paint on it (especially in the pink of the sky) and it just shines, box is 7.75 inches long, by 5.75 inches wide, by 3.25 inches tall

Also I wire wrapped the Starry Night face, I put a few Swarovski crystals at the top to give it alittle extra sparkle. I think it looks pretty darned snazzy if I do say so myself :)

One of my classes (for Theatre Education) requires us to do a puppet show on Monday. So my group decided to use the story The Fat Cat and my goal was to make cat puppets.... One small hand puppet, and one bigger puppet for when the cat gets fat.

New Dress!

I've been way crafty lately, but I'll save the rest for another post and start with the dress that I made on Friday. Yup, that's how I spend my Friday nights, slaving away over a sewing machine. I used Vogue 2412, which looks way ugly from the pattern front, but I think my version is cute (and I already got compliments on it when I wore it today--that's the best feeling!) I would highly recommend the pattern to anyone who wants to make a shirtdress.
On to the dress... )
