Hey guys! Just looking for a little advice on dying canvas shoes. I bought a white pair and attempted to dye them orange, but the rubber on the bottom sort of soaked up a bit of the color and now the shoes look gross. Any way to fix this?

I also have another pair that I was planning on dying. Anybody know how to prevent the color from soaking into the rubber?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sorry for the text only post, I heard about this this morning, and wanted to share with all you crafty people! You can make your own bracelet for cervical cancer awareness!

Merck & Co., a pharmaceutical company, is offering FREE beaded bracelet kits on their website AND for every kit ordered, they will donate one dollar to Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation up to $100,000! Their donation will go towards programs for cervical cancer awareness and screening programs for underserved women.

Here's the site to order your bracelet kit:

Hope you folks think this is as awesome as I do!

(PS- You can learn more about Cervical Cancer-- a TOTALLY PREVENTABLE Cancer-- at Merck's website here or the NIH's informational page here.)

i'm going on a roadtrip at the very end of this month, from orlando to indiana, then from new york to canada to d.c. to one of the carolinas to wherever else to back home in orlando. and during all of this time on the road, since i'm 19 and still haven't decided i need a driver's license yet and therefore can't share in the joy of driving, i want to knit a really simple awesome red scarf to pass the time. some bright, awesome, maybe deep red that is soft and happy to wear.

so the question: before i throw myself into the internet or michael's craft store, does anyone have a favorite brand of yarn, or a favorite shade of beautiful red, or a favorite place (either online or on land) to get yarn from? [if it's an internet deal, i need it to ship to me before june 30th.]

thanks so much!

Hi all! I'm new to sewing, and I'm having a bit of a problem. I'd really like to make one of those rice heating pads with the separated areas for the rice. However, I'd like to make a 3D tubular rice pouch with separated areas. I am having a hard time figuring out how to do it, because I want it to look like a nice tube with no seams. Really, I just want something 3D and kind of rigid. See pathetic, badly-drawn diagram below.

I don't know how to do this, though. Does anyone have any ideas or resources? Thank you!

Well I'm going to 2 graduation parties on Saturday, and since I'm broke, I figured I needed to do something interesting for a present.

So I made cards. (Using magazine pictures, paperbags, and my sewing machine!) :)

My cousin's son turns 1 on Sunday, and they are having a party for him. I would love to make him something, but have NO IDEA what. My first thought was a blanket, but it's summer and not really blanket weather. Then I thought, maybe I could embroider bibs or something, but is 1 a little old for stuff like that? I'm at a loss. And I don't know how his room is decorated, so I can't really do anything along those lines. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

And now, so this isn't text only... I LOVE Sculpey! )

I will be going to a big art sale/show in Philly in July. This will be my first sale/show. For those pro's out there do you have any kind words of advice? I know the typical bring stuff to hold down artwork from wind, stuff to protect from the sun, etc. What I've been pondering is how to have my table set up. Have you done/seen anything creative as far as table setup? Do many people decorate their table in any sort of theme?
                                          Any help would be appreciated.

I know there has already been a post about these, but i didn't really find it helpful.

i'm looking into starting up on screenprinting so that gets the bones underway, but i am clueless with everything else and my teacher keeps trying to make it harder for me. i'm sure it can't be as hard as she's insisting. any body got any tips? thank you all heaps :]

Behold, my latest obsession:

I have sworn to singlehandedly bring the Fascinator back into fashion. )

Feel free to suggest some names for those without. I've got one more to photograph, and I'm going to get shots of a bunch of them on an actual head tomorrow. Basically, it involves scissors, supplies (flowers, feathers, netting, ribbon, etc.), and a lot of glue.

I'm proud of myself. :D

I wanted to share some of the gifts my kids and I made for my husband for Father's Day. My kids are 3.5 and 15 months by the way. :)

We made hand prints out of salt dough. At first I wanted them to be put in the garden but then they were so cute that I didn't want them to get all dirty. So I used hot glue to attach some buttons and ribbon to the back for hangers.
