I've been toying with the idea of a variety of versions of the bone-handle clutch. Largely because I love the bone-handles and can't get enough of them, but also in part because I'm dry of inspiration for other bag ideas. I am switching it up, however.

I was tinkering around in the bathroom (secret code for I wandered in to the loo but forgot to put my crochet down before hand) and an idea struck me. If knitters knit in the round for garments, bags, socks, what-have-you, why don't I attempt to crochet in the round with that dusty pair of size-I circular hooks I have? Of course they're possibly the most awkward things I've held in my hand--besides, well--but when working with them, a lot of that disappears.

Let's look first at the circular hooks after I've finished pulling up loops. Let me just quickly add that, as is my nature, I've made this much more difficult on myself. I decided, long before I had the loo-inspiration, that this bag absolutely must be in tunisian knit stitch. It's just pretty, okay? Back to looking at the circular hooks in action:

Singer 247

I bought my new (old) sewing machine off of eBay last week for 10 US dollars... well 25 with shipping. It's a Singer 247 from the 70's but still ran really well. Unfortunately it had some tension problems and I gave up with trying to fix it, so I took it to the shop. They did a complete "makeover" of it and it ended up being 60 dollars. It turns out I could have bought a brand new machine at Walmart for less than I've put into this thing. Furthermore, I found out my grandma had an old Singer similar to mine, just missing some pieces, that she would have given to me to get fixed up.

Oh well, I still love this baby! )

questions:

1) I have this Rasterbated image I want to put up on my wall. Thing is, last year I painted my walls orange and the paint has a satin finish, so my attempt to Scotch-tape pictures to it (which I used to do constantly to cover the ugly white walls) keep failing. Any ideas on what I can use to stick paper to the wall without ruining the paint job?

2) I also have an empty glass grenadine bottle full of glitter that I no longer want. It was GOING to be one of those cool layered things like what you do with sand, but it came out kind of shitty, so I just capped it and moved it around my room. But I'm sick of it! I don't know what to do with the glitter - whatever I do will have to be a mix of purple, black, gold and silver glitters and there's a ton in there.

3) I bought some cute high heels off a teen auction site a few years ago - they were way too small but I was attracted to the pattern and thought I could coat them in red glitter and hang them from my ceiling. Parts of the shoes are a sort of leather and I don't know if it's real or fake, and other parts are suede and I don't know if that's real, either. FORGOT THE QUESTION PART - the glitter did not stick to the leather/suede (I tried brushing glue on - Elmer's, then a craft glue) and I can't figure out what else I could do with them. They seem too nice to throw out, but too small for anyone to wear. Any ideas?

4) One of the walls in my room I painted bright pink, against all advice to the contrary, and a few months after the job was sloppily done, I decided I HATE IT, so I bought a quart of yellow paint because yellow is pretty and bright and goes much better with orange than the pink that I used. I test painted a corner of the wall and my sister advises me to paint the wall white first, then yellow, but my girlfriend says either way I'm going to need 2 coats so I should just paint it yellow twice. I lean towards painting it 2 coats of yellow, but I can't decide which would be most efficient. And if anyone has any tips on how to paint without getting streaks on the ceiling and the other walls at the corners, I'd love to hear them!

Answers to any and all inquiries will be much appreciated.

a gam of whales

these are a custom order and i made them on the train when i go to work, i made them when i'm going home, i made them when i'm home, and FINALLY i've finished making all of them! it really is tough crafting when you hold a full-time job and i'm sure many of us will agree to that!

This is the most complicated stencil I've done yet. It took about three movies' worth of cutting and one injured finger, but I'm very happy with it. On the final product I guess I'll put some sort of border above and below the image, since it's cut off. (And I won't use metallic silver for the bottom layer.) This is Lucinda Williams, by the way.

Goddamn, that HAIR. It made me want to scream. I had to improvise a shitload of bridges that weren't really there.

All right, this is a rather image heavy entry. Now, I've been wanting to make Uo-chan from Fruits Basket's trench coat for awhile. Now that I'm learning how to sew and have found a great tutorial on how to make motorcycle jackets (since I'm not really a trench coat kinda person and moto jackets are HAWT), I figure I'll start this project sooner than I thought. The only problem is that I don't want to paint on the designs and whatnot. I was thinking either embroidery or appliques, but I'm an idiot and don't really know A) Which would be better for this project and B) What the real difference between the two is. Could anyone help me out?

I'm not sure if this is 100% craft related; feel free to delete if neccesary.

First, i'd like to say thanks to all who responded to the backpack post... i'll post results soon!

ANYWAY.

I'm planning on stenciling a whole batch of plain white hanes shirts. Currently, I use freezer paper and i'm planning on using plain colors --- red, green, black, blue, etc.

Now, I have a gigantic mix of images that I want to use, but I don't want just an image! I'm going for one image, and below it, one word (or, a few words) that would make a dynamic impact. (Hey, we can all imagine, right?)

ONWARD TO THE IMAGES! )

My friend sent me this link (knowing that I'm a crafty person) and it seems like a cool idea, but has anyone tried it? I would like to see some pictures.

Link is Right...here.

Another question. Is it illegal to copy money if you're using it for this project? I know that it'll be different texture and whatnot because of the paper that money is printed on, but I can't afford $20 to make this wallet...

Thanks!

A while ago I fell in love with the alligator pillow on uncommongoods.com. I tried to reproduce it and it turned out allright. Not perfect, but allright.See pictures here. )

P.S. To everyone who said all those nice things about the Beady Leaf Bracelet I posted a while ago, thank you soooo much. You guys have encouraged me to keep trying at jewelry making. It is rather fun, really.

P.P.S. To everyone who piped in regarding my request for Domain/Hosting recommendations, I also thank you. It spurred me to do a lot of research and I found a host that looks very promising - hostexcellence.com. Now I just have to think of a good dot com name.
