It's so very simple a design, but the thing is I made my own pattern out of computer paper. Albeit,it was very basic. I think it turned out pretty well for being only my second sewing project evah. I still have these little sequin flowers of various shiny metallic colors that I'm thinking about sewing onto the front flap. There is also one problem that I'd like some input on. But anyway...zee pictures...

This is the front flap... )

This is the front without the flap )

This is inside of the bag to show the pocket... )

This is the back... )

My dilema was that I was going to add buttons as closures but I made the silver ribbon the flap too long and now I can't add them without sticking the buttons onto the bottom of the bag...that'd be somewhat inconvenient and silly, so what should I do? Do I leave the ribbons and they'll be some little joke and serve no purpose or do I come up with some way to fix my problem?

I'm sorry for this being a text-only post.

I was just wondering if anybody where where I could get a mannequin.
I'm trying the whole sewing thing, but It's so hard for me to measure onto myself. I suppose that means I'm looking to invest in a mannequin.
Any website/prices/places I could get one would be really appreciated.

If any of you have had experience with Scouts, you'll know that they routinely go camping and absolutely love dressing up (have you seen the uniforms?!) - sometimes they even combine the two! That's how my father - Scout Unit Leader of my town - and my little sister - a Cubscout - ended up badgering my mam and me a week before Cubcamp, in need of outfits and props. The theme for the camp this year was something about Magic and their campsite was going to be Camelot, so we created

I'm planning on throwing a Cosplay Party. Can anyone think of some crafty things I could do for the party? Decorations, party favors, crafty foods, anything!

I have some beautiful bright red fabric with white heart polka dots on it for £2, perfect for making a dress I thought! So I dug up a Simplicity dress pattern I thought would suit, only to realise after carefully reading through that it doesn't suit patterns 'cut on the nap' meaning with a pattern which has to be seen one way up. Does anyone know if this will ruin my dress, or if I can just carefully cut my pieces with the fabric right way up and then hope that the darts don't affect it too much?

Thank you all!

so i finally caved and made my own "infinity" dress like everyone else on craftster. i'm still playing around with the straps but i think this is my favorite way to tie it! don't mind the black tank top underneath, i'm still a bit self conscious
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

if anyone wants to read more about the dress the thread from craftster is http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=104089.0 and the tutorial is http://rowena.typepad.com/rostitchery/2006/06/one_seam_conver.html

I think I saw once a tool that acts like a stapler, allowing you to close a zipper on the open end using a metal clip. Does anyone know what I am talking about, or where I could get one?

My mom works for a Christian Book Store and the person who owns it is a close friend of ours. So here is my question. She has asked me to make bracelets that have the words "Serve" and "Impact" upon them. I have tried thinking of many different ideas on how to go about this but I'm not sure. Having beads that spell out the words COULD work, but I haven't thought of a good way. This wouldn't be a problem for a few employees, but this is over 20ish and includes guys as well.

If anyways has ideas please let me know! Thanks in advance!

Well, its REALLY REALLY hot and I'm really really poor so I'm looking for an online capri pant tutorial. I've tried everywhere, google, different diy/tutorial communities, craftster.org and I can't find anything.

I'm also wondering, exactly what kind of fabric should I use for capris?
I don't want the baggy kind, so I'm thinking I wouldn't be able to use cotton.

Yar matey!

I'm on a huge Pirates of the Caribbean kick, and I really wanted to start getting an Elizabeth costume ready for Halloween. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything at all appropriate for sale, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I don't sew clothing, I don't understand patterns, I don't have anyone to go to for advice and I don't even have a sewing machine, but I decided to try making the 'Rum Island shift dress', as it's called.
Here there be loads of pics. )

I'm really proud of myself. It's not perfect, it's a bit crooked/uneven in places, and the sleeves are way too frayed and too billowy, but I'm still happy. I've also become ambitious - I'm planning on trying my hand at the plum gown as soon as I can buy some fabric for it.

Which brings me to my last point - any tips on how I can do a cheap, relatively fast, not-exact-but-passable version of the plum gown?

Hello Crafty ladies!

I'm mostly a jewelry diva but I also dabble in sewing. Mostly handbags and large totes and such and the occasional skirt or patchwork creation. You might imagine my excitement in a successful pattern-free top excursion since it's never been accomplished before!

Lovely! I finished my first pair (and a second!) of Knitty's "Fetching".

ETA: To those who will also be knitting two-tone gloves, I switched colors after the 6th round in the "Work 18 rounds in 4x1 Rib." instructions.

Someone started an excellent thread on etsy about setting up a photo box. I tried some and I think my pictures are coming out WAY more professional. I used a large laundry basket, and white sheet of paper, two lamps with 60 watt bulbs.

Link to the thread..

I made this today despite my RA flare causing my hands to swell.

It is 60 inches so it can double loop. I made a bracelet and earrings to match.
