I've been keeping up with this community for about a week now. I'm into crocheting myself, and will probably share some of my crafts in the near future!  I have a baby due in January and am creating things for a Nintendo themed room, so I'm a busy bee in that area. :)

Anyhow, I wanted to share my Halloween costume with you all. My Husband dressed up as a pumpkin farmer, and me and my pregnant belly as his prized pumpkin. ;) My Husband's Mom actually did the artwork, but I figured I'd share it with you despite it not being my own.

Hope everyone had a great Halloween! :)

what's a good method of stiffening fabric? I've heard of stratch spray, but I don't know if that will stiffen to the extent that I require...
I'm using canvas, and need to be able to fold/roll sections and them to keep their shape... Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe a layer of PVA glue, but then that'll be shiny!

puzzlement

So I was standing in my office today, and I thought that it would be a lot of fun to make myself a french ribbon corkboard to take up some of the space on my walls. Easy, right? Fabric glue, ribbons, fabric, and some corkboard.

Here's the problem. Where do I find the corkboard? I know that you can buy it without a frame around it and have just corkboard, but I cannot find it to save my life. I was hoping I could find it at Lowe's or Home Depot, make a JoAnn's run, and have a quick project to do tonight, but alas, that might not be the case.

Any ideas where I can find some?

Sorry for the lack of pictures. I just finished the Irish Hiking Scarf from Hello Yarn, so *insert picture of finished scarf here*

My mom is giving a bunch of people free car wash certificates & planning to give them out in small metal pails (you know, so it looks like a little car washing bucket?).
She wants it to look like there are suds or bubbles in the pail, any ideas on how to do so?
Thanks!

When I was in Italy this summer, in the main touristy areas (Venice especially) there were peddlers selling these... moldable balloon animal... creature things. I didn't buy one because I thought I could figure it out and make one, but haven't even found mention of them online for a picture reference. I'm kicking myself for not taking a picture.

So. Does anyone live in Italy? Have you seen or bought these to play with? Have a picture?

Or has anyone anywhere made these in school? It reminded me of when you put flour into a balloon for a stress ball. Is it something like that?

Thanks in advance, everyone! :o)

Not too long ago someone asked how to remove a label from a wine bottle. I just saw this on "Martha" so I thought I'd throw it out there.

Fill the empty bottle with very hot water. Then, if you have an espresso machine, hold the lable under the steam wand and steam it off. If you don't have an espresso machine you can put the bottle, filled with very hot water, into a pot or large bowl also filled with very hot water with about 6 drops of dish soap added to it. Let it sit until the label comes off. She said this could take from 1 hour to over night but the label comes off perfectly undamaged. You then blot the label and let it dry. She gave one more way to remove the label and that was with label laminating squares that can be purchased on line (one site was wineultra.com, I forget the other). You place the laminate over the label and peal it of, it seperates the label from the glue.

i'm looking to buy vegan yarns in bulk: acrylic, bamboo, soy, or corn, or recycled yarns, or anything else maybe i don't know about. i can only find sites that sell by the ball and it's about $10 for 100 yards. does anyone know any good sites for this sort of thing? thanks!

Hello! I'm a first time poster. I'm looking forward to learning and being inspired by everyone here.

I do a lot of garment sewing for myself. For the second year in a row I'll be participating in this SWAP Contest. It's a lot of fun and a great way to expand your wardrobe. Plus, all the ladies that participate are very nice and helpful and supportive. My last SWAP and all the participants. And some other recent sewing.

I just got started on Christmas presents. I'm taking scraps of tweed and some other fabrics, fringing the edges, and making scarves and wraps (idea from Martha Stewart). I'd also like to make silk flower pins for holding them in place and lavender sachets so they'll smell nice while they're being wrapped up and shipped.

I'm also planning my wedding for June 2007. I've got my ideas all set but haven't started making anything yet. There will be many favors and centerpieces made by me. I have a busy winter ahead. :)

Question: I'm attempting to make a yoga/pilates mat.

Um. How?

I figure I'll put that no slip stuff on the bottom, but that's all I've got so far.

I have bony hips so I need it to be relatively thick so that they don't dig into it when I'm on my stomach (my problem with most store bought ones).

That's pretty much all my criteria.

Should I just attatch multipe layers of the now slip stuff? Or what?

I finally got my hands on the game We ♥ Katamari! Woohoo! I am so addicted, but worse still my hubby is even more addicted! I need to practice as he is much better than I am sadly.

Even worse is that the Katamari bug has spread into my crafting life as well and I simply couldn't sleep until I had finished this:

Hey guys! I have a quick question... sorry text only.. Anyway! I just bought one of those handy dandy oil fed glass cutters for my next project. What kind of oil can I put in it? I mistakenly thought the oil would be in it already because I didn't see any around.

The question is: What kind of oil can I use in place of cutting oil? I have Vegetable Glycerine handy... I'm a little scared to put it in it incase it will mess up the cutter...

Help!

i'm trying to make the ropes and ladders scarf that someone else made and posted pictures of earlier (pattern found here: http://pieknits.com/pattern2.html) but i'm having trouble with a few of the stitches, the ones in the pattern notes: "C3B" "C3F" and "C5".

the way i see it, i slide the stitch from my left needle to my right, knit or purl the required stitches from the left, then slide them all back onto the left needle until i reach the first slipped stich, and knit or purl it. after which i would then slide all these stiches back onto the right and continue on with the pattern? is that correct?

and just so its not text only....here are the obligatory halloween pictures: jasmine, cinderella and a pirate!

Well, I thought I was going to post a brand-spankin' new idea for everyone, but it was briefly mentioned in this post a long while back. But!! I come bearing pictures!!

So its getting on close to the end of the year. You still have your calendar hanging on your bedroom/kitchen/office wall, and you really have no idea what you're going to do with it. You also hope to have lots of Thank You cards to write to all your Aunts, Uncles, 4th cousins, local Zookeepers, etc., after they've given you exactly what you always wanted for Christmas! (...right?? Although I'm still waiting for Bob to finally get the hint that Alice the Elephant would be MUCH happier at my house... but maybe your Zookeeper friends pay more attention to you...)

*cough* Elephants aside, I have a great suggestion for you! :D )

And if you don't want my suggestion... you can just ignore the cut and look at my shiny objects collection...
