Firstly,

I have seen those reed diffusers everywhere and recently bought one for $12.00 at Pier 1. I'm trying to think of my own version of this, my own spin-off of the reed diffuser. I would like to not use reeds if at all possible. My first thought was getting clear straws and stuffing them with natural cotton. Bamboo skewers apparently do not work all that well. Any other ideas?

And also,

What is everyone doing for Christmas and Holiday season decor this year? I have decided to do black glitter-balls and bought a silver assortment pack for $17.99 at Target that has dozens and dozens of different silver and glittery items. Then I went to Hobby Lobby to stock up on frost-white ornaments.

PS - Lots of cheap holiday stuff at Michaels this week! Oh, and if you have a Hobby Lobby all their Christmas stuff is 50% off and on their website there is a %40 any one item coupon.

Since my boyfriend primarily uses his laptop in the kitchen while preparing foods and such, I offered to make him a cover that could be wiped clean when necessary to protect it. I even let him pick the design for said cover, and have input on all of the little details, so he was pretty excited!

that boy, he likes colors )

The Mighty Narwhal, tough as the Canadian Arctic it inhabits... )

For Halloween, I was a Narwhal!! I figured that I might as well make the costume this year because I'd have no facilities to make it next year when I'm in college! I'm going to be a narwhal again next year to make a bunch of friends because everyone loves a narwhal! I know the colouring is all wrong but I couldn't find a big enough hoodie to work with.

The costume is made from an XL hanes navy blue hoodie with this weird green sweater material I got on discount for .99. I added a zipper, flippers, and tail, all made out of spare pieces of the original hoodie. Then I splattered the whole thing in white/silver acrylic paint, sewed on the horn and eyes! hurrah!! I admit that it is a bit sloppy and I might end up giving in and making an accurate costume out of a white hoodie sooner or later!
thanks for looking!

I just had to buy pink camouflage yarn, and these were the results )

I've only been crocheting about a year. Please be kind :) Mostly I do applique and collage.

sewing machine question, kind of lame, sorry: I ONLY want to make basic A-line skirts and sew up pillows. i've never sewn by machine before either. what's the cheapest thing I could humanly buy that would do that? TIA :)

So I make these little earrings:

They look weird because they're not for people. xD

Anyway, the hoop part is a loop of toe-ring sized memory wire, and to keep the chain from falling off there's a little end ball glued on each end. I recently just had someone tell me that one of their end-balls fell off. Now, I've had ones fall off before but they've been loosely glued in, and I made sure that there were pretty firm before I mailed them out. After I had them in well, they didn't fall out, maybe because I knew to handle them a little more delicately. Still, I can't sell these if they're going to be at risk for falling out all of the time, since the end-balls are so important to the functionality of the design.

I use Locite 409 Instant Adhesive as a glue. Should I use something stronger or a different method? I can't really use really advanced equipment because I do this in my dorm room and I work these on a small scale (the Swavorski crystals are 4mm.

Does anyone have any advice? :D

A pendant I made that can be worn on a necklace, pin or ...whatever. I made both the glass bead and cut out the metal leaves by hand. I also assembled it.

more pics under the cut!

Hello! I'm desperate. I am looking for some specific yarn that has been discontinued. It is Lion Brand Wool-Ease worsted-weight in ButterScotch. It looks like this:

Has anyone seen this at a store recently? I've looked at Wal-Mart and Joann's because they are the two yarn supplies closest to me, but they don't have it. Michael's is an hour away, which is the next closest yarn supply. Hmm...I will call Michael's and ask. In the meantime, could someone please help me look for this? I can't find it for sale online anywhere. I'd like at least two skeins.

I don't know if this type of post is allowed here, but I am desperate enough to take a chance of breaking a rule. If anyone thinks this post should be deleted, I understand and I won't harbor any bad feelings if this post disappears. Also, I'm sorry for all the crossposting, but I really, really need help with this.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me!

EDIT: Yay! I found some! Thank you everyone for your help!!! Woo hoo!

So I bought some original Sculpey from Walmart the other day. I made something out of it yesterday and baked it. I baked it according to the directions – 275°F for 15 minutes (it was a thin sheet) – and it immediately burned. At least that's what I assume it did, since the white Sculpey turned this weird brownish purple color.

I took it out of the oven and let it cool for a while. It was still kind of bendable, so I stuck it back in the oven for even longer. It didn't change color much after that, but it's still slightly flexible. How hard is Sculpey supposed to get? Why did mine change color immediately instead of remaining white?

Alrighty all you scarf lovers out there. I am going to crochet a scarf for my mother for christmas which has this papercut ) on it. IT's her favorite piece of artwork ever. My plan is to first crochet a scarf in the color of the background and then at one end affix the other pieces of artwork, since my crochet skills are not yet to the point where I could create a graph and crochet it right in.

Have any of you ever done applique of some sort on a crocheted scarf? What do you think the best way to do it is... felt? fabric? cross stitch? Which would look most like the artwork, yet would still be functional?

I made a sweater awhile ago and it's currently my favorite. It's comfortable and warm!

Green/white )

The green and white fabrics are both connected. So it looks like I'm wearing a green shirt underneath but it's all one. :)

I hope everyone is doing well, and that you are as excited as me for the upcoming holiday season!

Hey girls, this might be too off-topic but I thought I would try anyway since most of you are ultra smart! I really want to do some christmas baking with my mom this year, and I'm looking for a dog-shaped cookie cutter. We have a Scottie dog (you know the furry black ones that are always featured on Christmas ornaments and stuff) and I reallyreally want to make gingerbread scotties for my family. PLEASE let me know if you all know of any websites or stores that might have dog-shaped cookie cutters, or maybe what other community I could ask this question. Thanks! :)
