So I had a big birthday party on the weekend, the theme was "When I Grow Up". (There were so many pirates...!)

But more than a pirate, when I was little, I wanted to be... She-Ra!

Right now we are the luckiest people in the whole wide world )

For awhile now I've been kicking around the idea of crocheting some curtains. Namely because I don't want to buy curtains and I suck at sewing. I did decide to bite the bullet and sew curtains, but I can't find any material that I like for my room. Hence, I'm looking at making them via crochet.

Has anyone ever done this? If so, how did it turn out for you? I'm not going to be doing filet crochet, just simple sc,dc repeat pattern for the full length of the window. I'm hoping to do it with cotton yarn, but I don't think it comes in the colors I am looking for. I know Red Heart Super Saver has the colors I want, but now I'm looking at a weight situation. However, I should be ok if I get strong enough curtain rods. Or so my brain tells me.

Anyone have any tips/advice/warnings they feel like passing on? I'd really appreciate it!

Hi everyone. I'm attempting to sew a Dinkleman bear from Open Season for my boyfriend for our anniversary. Does anyone have any suggestions? I couldn't even find a decent image of him on Google.

ok... my incredibly arty best friend just bought a yacht which he is fixing up to live on.

i really want to make him a cushion for it with the japanese wave thing on it...

i have been really uninspired lately and my skills haven't been too great, not to mention my lack of art capabilities to begin with!! but i do like to sew and try new things. and my exams finish wednesday and he goes away which leaves me with well... a week of free time....

It's going to be his christmas present, but i'm going overseas at the beginning of december so i would love to have it done before that.

I really would love ideas on how to do this? what would be the simplest yet affective way?

and also, it really needs to be waterproof because other wise it will get mouldy or something horrible.... so i could do it with felt and such (not that i have used felt before) and than put a clear plastic cover over it... or use more waterproof fabrics or something??

IDEAS? PLEASSSSSE? you guys are always such great help...
I promise to post completed project when done.

I was wondering if there is a way to attach paper to fabric without sewing. Yesterday I found a bunch of amazing vintage children's books at Goodwill and want to hang some of the pages on my wall. Instead of putting them in frames, I thought maybe I could incorporate them into fabric wall hangings. I suppose I could just stick some double-sided tape on the back, but I'd like for them to be flat. Is there anything else I could do? Can you glue paper onto fabric without it bubbling or distorting the fabric? Any suggestions are appreciated!

so i found a felt hat in a thriftstore. think like a men's hat, not a beret or something like that, but still felt.
i'm pretty much obsessed with it, but i didn't buy it because its tan and i'm unsure if i'd be able to wear a tan hat and pull it off. but being the hat fiend i am, i desperatly want to own it anyway.

do you think i might be able to dye it? i don't want to chance ruining the felt by soaking it with hot water (or any water, really...), nor do i want to end up with a brown ring around my forehead every time i wear it.
i'm intimidated by it because i've heard stories about felt hats disintegrating or becoming weak after being soaked, but you'd think it would be ok because... its felt, ya know?

At work, we're going to pimp our fish tank. The problem? All the fish accessories at the petstore are, well, lame. Does anyone know of crafty things that are definate fish killers? I'd like to be able to make some decorations with polymer clay. Is that going to kill our aquatic friends?

Also,if anyone has any tank theme ideas, we are very open to them. Right now, I'm leaning toward Saturday Night Fever.

I made this a few months ago but didn't think about posting it until now. A friend came to Bunko night with a Green Bay Packers Booty Bag she paid $50 for and some of us said "we can make that", so we did. I went with a hippy theme...Booty Bag )

I've got some bits of metal that I'm wondering what I could possibly do with. They are "drips" of solder. I was helping my boyfriend while he soldered together some stuff, and I noticed that when the excess solder dripped onto the newspaper we had laid down, it formed interesting designs. I snatched up the good ones, and now am left with very flexible thin pieces of metal (mostly tin with a bit of silver, as it was lead-free solder). They aren't large; the largest is maybe about an inch long.

Image of the drips behind the cut. )

I can also make plenty more, as we've got tons more solder and it's cheap stuff to get, anyway. I know these bits of metal have a use, but I'm lost! Any ideas? Thanks in advance. :)

A dear friend made the mistake of telling me he was going in for a vasectomy on Friday. I, of course, had to offer up congratulations! I'm shocked, just shocked that Hallmark doesn't make a card for this occasion. So I had to make my own.

I got together with some girlfriends this weekend and made dream pillows. We stamped on velvet and sewed the pillows. They turned out better than they had any right to.
