OK, since I don't think many people on my friend's list for my journal would appreciate this news, I will come to the girls who will the most.

Today there was a yard sale down the street from me. So my Grandpa and I go to see what she is offering. It was supposed to start at 4:30 but we asked if we could look and she said no problem. Well I bet she was happy we did. When I walked into the yard, I noticed tonnes of stained glass glass and supplies. I noted it in my head to look at it for my mom, but went for me stuff first (books and beads....). When I found a few books and no beads, I wandered over to the stained glass. There was this foiler contraption. I decided to phone to see if my mom needed it (she's not living in town anymore...). I got my dad, and my mom's not home . After a short conversation, telling him she wants $300 for everything (she told me when I asked how much the foiler thing was), he tells me to ask the lady if she'd take $250. I ask, and she says $275. I converse with my dad again.....and I decided that was well worth it.

Here's what I got for $275....the foiler contraption, a grinding machine, a light box, a temp control for a sodering iron, foil rolls, glass pliers, many things that I don't know what they are, a HUGE pile of pattern books, papers and magazines.....and tonnes and tonnes of glass. Everything filled my Grandpa's truck to take it to our property for safe keeping. I wish I didn't ruin my camera the other weekend or else I would be taking pics to show my find.

The lady also had a Singer Tiny Serger so I bought it for $5.00...the price on it was $74.97...I'm happy with it (I don't know if it works or how good of a machine it is, but hell, I'll give it a shot).

Sorry to fill your friend's pages...but I couldn't keep this to myself!

Hey folks, I was in the right place at the right time and am now the proud owner of an Bernina Artista 165 electronic home embroidery machine. It's not quite the dinkiest of it's sort but it does do nice embroidery and about a billion stitches. I also snagged a "magic box" so i can turn any electronic embroidery file into something my machine can read and thus do. Any sugestions for my first project? Will post photos on LJ for all to enjoy.

These are either gifts or I was comissioned to do one. The cloisonne (the purple beads with flowers on them) was done for my mom. Con-Crit is appreciated. I got a new camera and I think it takes better pictures. :D

I've been keeping busy sewing since I have a craft show this Saturday and the Toronto FanExpo next weekend.

You guys are all so good with knowing all the different supplies out there, I thought I'd ask here.

I am doing a project with the kids in my piano studio. They're playing a modified version of Chutes and Ladders for the fall semester. Basically, if they meet their practice goals for the week, they get to spin the spinner and move their piece. When a student reaches the end of the board, they earn a point for their team and then get to start over again.

So I bought a bunch of Chutes and Ladders boards, 1 for each team. The deal is, I need some kind of flat playing piece that I can stick to the board somehow, trust that it won't fall off, but have it be temporary so that when they move their piece the next week at their lesson, it will come right up. I teach some of my lessons in students' homes, so I'll be hauling the boards with me and can't just leave them set up somewhere. That's why the pieces need to be flat (so I can fold the boards).

I was thinking of maybe using those thin poker chips for the game pieces. I know I can get those at the dollar store. They come in a bunch of colors, and I could put each student's name on one with a little sticker. But I still don't know what to do to make them stick to the board. I thought of maybe using a bit of that poster-tack stuff you use to stick posters to walls. I also vaguely remember using a glue-stick once that had the kind of stick-um that you have on post-it notes... but I don't think that'd work if I use plastic game pieces.

The other part is, the game starts September 1 and goes up until the studio's Christmas party. So whatever I do, it needs to be somewhat durable.

Anyone have any ideas for either pawns or stick-um?
Thank you!!

I have a very exciting idea, but I have 2 questions.

Basically, I have some large frames from work that we got rid of when we moved. My plan is to take the photo out, put a new background in, and then take some tree branches, fake flowers, little charms, and make a 3-d collage in the frame behind the glass (it is a very deep frame). If this works out, I have a couple more frames-- I am planning a 'marsh' scene with cat-tails and willow stalks, and a beach scene with sand and things.

Here are my questions-

1) If I take some branches and put them in the frame, do I need to do anything to them first? Should I bake them in the oven to dry them or kill bugs? Do I need to laquer them so they don't fall apart over time? Basically, what do I need to do to make it last and not fall apart over time.

2) This is a do-you-remember thing, but I can't find it... someone had a technique of taking a canvas and painting it, and then somehow soaking tissue paper in paint and glue or something and sticking it to the canvas to make this crinkly texture that was completely amazing. Did anyone save the instructions for that?

I really appreciate any help-- I feel like I have been stuck in a crafting rut for a long time, and suddenly I am so excited I almost took off work to start this. I will post photos when I finish!

Thank you!

If anyone on here has a Clover embroidery tool, could they please help me out a little? I've completely lost my instructions and it's been so long since I've used this thing that I can't remember what to do! I've googled my little heart out *and* contacted Clover, but nothing.

So if you know of any instructions online, or you have the instructions and can help me, please do =) I really just need to know how to go about threading it/putting it together.

Thank you!

i was wondering if anyone would be interested in joining one. i was searching facebook for a craft group but i haven't found any that are well-organized or active. if the moderators will allow it to be affiliated with the livejournal version, i'll make it. if not, i'll use a different name.

oh and i'll add something crafty to this post:]
i'm working on turning one of those Singer cast iron sewing table base things into a...table. it's probably gonna hold my tv. i got one from the thrift store the other day, just the bottome part. it's a lot of work. i scrubbed it down with steel wool yesterday to get the rust off. whew. the wood i got has a really nice grain and i'm staining it to match an antique dresser i got (i refinished two of the drawers on that as well, i should post pictures some time).
I'm thinking of spray-painting the base black since the iron is worn and faded. unless you gals have any better ideas?

I got these plain white hooks at the dollar store a long time ago and have been meaning to do something with them. Last night I got to work and I'm really happy with the result!

John's is higher because he's tall & I'm short! LOL

There was another one at the dollar store that said "towels" and I think I just might go and get it and do it up for the bathroom!

Has anyone ever made marble magnets with any other adhesive besides silicone glue? I am making these with young children at a summer camp, and I want something that's going to stick well and dry clear, without asphyxiating them! Any suggestions? The Internet tells me "Tacky Glue", but I'm not sure it's available in Canada... I've looked at a bunch of places.

Funny thing happened while I was outside this afternoon: a little bird landed on the deck and looked at me with its beady little eyes.

Would you like to see more? )

For the body I used Christine's Bird pattern from Marlo's Crochet Corner. I didn't like Marlo's wings or beak so I made my own, and the feet are also freehanded.

Made by request for a friend. Took about three hours, including construction and weaving in ends. What do you think?

Question

I was wondering if anybody in this community knew where I could find some hair elastics made out of cotton like fabric that don't have anything on them that I could use to make my own hair bobbles. I have been having a hard time finding them. I looked on ebay, etsy, and have even googled it, and have had no luck whatsoever.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks you so much.
