Hey, ladies.

This isn't a craft of my own, but I thought you might like it: a new professor in California was strapped for research cash and needed computer chips, so she (no joke) made them out of Shrinky-Dinks.

Pretty awesome.

Hi everyone!

I just finished up a Christmas gift for one of my girlfriends last night - I made a scarf out of silk ties (oh, and I took lots of pics - tutorial coming soon!!!)

(Pardon the horrible photo - I will try to swap it out with something better soon.)

I made it the full width the fabric would allow but my question to you is, is it too wide at the bottom???? It sort of naturally folds on it's own when worn, which is fine, because the backside is a pretty burgundy silk. The weight of the beaded trim (a splurge) holds it down as well. But do you think it would be better in a straight style (it would still need to curve in a little at the neck - unless I made it super-thin, which I don't want to do.)

I'm asking because there's still time to fix it if the overall consensus is it looks really weird this way.

Another pic after the cut if you need more visuals to form an opinion. )

Thanks for the help!

Hemp Silk

Hello :)

Does anyone have any ideas where I could find hemp/silk blend fabric? I did locate a few sources but wow, expensive! (About $15 a yard). Do you think this is a "normal" price?

Thanks!

Oh, my last craft project so this isn't just text:

I wasn't going to do Christmas Cards this year because they're time consuming and because postage is expensive.

Well, one day last week, I got into the Holiday Spirit and said "screw the time, screw the postage!"

I didn't have any money to buy cards, so I decided to make them. Even more time consuming. yay.

I looked up some methods online and discovered Wax resist. It appealed to me quite a bit.

I have a bottle of acrylic paint that is really thin. It is a little thinker than water consistency. Anyone know of a good way to make it thicker?

I wasn't sure how these pendants would turn out when I first started them but I love love love how they worked out. Sometimes when I try something new it works great and sometimes I will have a great idea and it just won't work how I want it to. It always makes me feel good when I have an idea works although both good and bad can be great learning experiences.

Sooo without to much more yammering...

So my best friend has this thing to go to and wanted something different wear and here is what we came with. We took a plain black shrunken blazer of hers and fancied it up.

So as kind of a weird family joke I'm making chicken hats for everyone for Christmas... or at least trying to...

Ideally, I'd like them to look similar to this:

I made myself a rough pattern last night, which came out pretty well, but I have a question about the details.

Hey Craftgrrl's!

Tonight I'm teaching my friend Jackie how to use a sewing machine, and I was wondering what your first sewing projects were?
Mine was a rail fence quilt, which is good for building techniques, but I don't think we're going to have much time to do a quilt since we're college students in the midst of the last week of classes.

Any kind of advice would be very appreciated!

I made this labradorite and Hill Tribe silver necklace a few weeks ago, and although it is pretty I decided that it was a bit boring:

So I restrung it...WARNING - the page behind the cut is image heavy) )

I'm very fond of the way it turned out, especially since it's so sturdy feeling. It's like I made the setting from PMC, but it's really just wired-up beads.

Anyway, here's some more jewelry I made in recent weeks, if you're interested... )

And because text only posts are lame, here is a picture of me eating a hot dog at my booth during a craft fair last month!  You probably cant tell but Im selling soap.

First Purse

[identity profile] emiko.livejournal.com
Hehe, I made something today... A purse! I made a skirt earlier this week but I haven't finished up the accessories yet... This is definitely my most complex project I've worked on, I'm actually really surprised it came out so nice *___*

It's for a gift exchange on another community... I bought this cute fabric for a different project/present, but changed my mind and used it for this instead :)

There are heat transfere pens and pencils, however I was wondering if there was heat transfere printers? It'd be awsome if there was, just print let dry then iron onto your project. Would be great for those items that had to much fne detail to trace the pencil over.

I was at a craft show today... and someone was selling photo notecards. I think they just glued their photos on some pre-made notecards.

Any idea where I could get me some of these?

Thanks!
