You know how people make fake flowers out of tissue paper?

Is it possible to make cute flowers out of sewing tissue paper?

((I do not mean that I want to sew the flowers. I just mean the pattern paper that is generally used for sewing.))

I've been trying different methods, but I think that maybe the tissue paper that is used for sewing is just too thick. I used the same techniques with kleenex and it looks cute, but the pattern one is less cute.

Anyone have any good experience with this?
I want to make it for a friend who sews.

Actually, any ideas in general for pattern tissue paper? I always have tons leftover since patterns come with lots of ugly designs that I don't use.

I paint tiny pewter miniatures for a hobby. I've been asked why since they take hours to finish. I guess I just like watching the piece come to life. Anyway, now that I finally have a camera, I wanted to post the ones I've finished thus far. Some are better than others because a.) I've had more practice, and b.) I've gotten better, smaller brushes. Hope you like them!

So after seeing all you ladies making awesome bags, I finally decided to take a stab at making my own purse. :D

I think I'm hooked )

Now I just need to find the perfect button. My lines need a little work, too, but I'm hoping I'll get better with my sewing machine after more practice.

I gotta give credit to the awesome tutorial I used:

...some flowers in your hair.

Someone posted a tutorial here for these a while ago ...and then i saw a tutorial at the burma style website -- so i decided to make one!

I had trouble making the hole in the middle small enough, though -- maybe my fabric was too stiff and therefor wouldn't scrunch down small enough in the middle? I don't know, but i wanted to use just the yellow button, but i had to use the bigger grey one as well to cover the big center hole. any suggestions?

I haven't posted on here in ages, but yes, I still design and sew. ;)

I know you want pics more than elaborate descriptions of what I did to the fabrics in detail, so I would like to introduce you to my mantis bag and my new skirt (that my fiancĂ© named Markus, of all things ;)) behind the cut: )

Any comments are very welcome. *curtsies*

Hello crafters. :)

I recently got a sample order of unfinished wooden bracelets (various sizes and shapes)from a company (DiyBangles). They were nice enough to send me a wide variety and I picked out the one that I need. I don't really have any use for the rest of them.

Would anyone like them to play with?

First one to respond gets them.

Thanks!

I did this earlier and um yeah. Yes the jar is warped, it got warped in the dishwasher but it goes along well with the theme so it's OK. X-posted to my own journal and first post here. :o

I'm currently in a production of CHICAGO, and to save some money I think I'd like to paint my 4+ years old beaten-up character shoes instead of buying a completely new pair. They are currently a nude color with all-leather uppers, and I want to paint them black.

My question is generally regarding the type of paint I should use. I don't want to use spray paint because it will chip and the show is very dance-intensive, and the finish on the shoes needs to remain matte because glossy shoes will look like patent leather... and well, that's just tacky. Is there a specific brand of leather paint that can be used just for this kind of project?

a few pictures for inspiration. )

Any and all suggestions are gladly welcomed. :D

As the saying goes: long time lurker, first time poster. My stairwell needed some wall decoration, so I made a small shadowbox today.

Hola,

I am writing to you to see if you are interested in holding a stall at the next warehouse party in Stafford St, Collingwood.

Saturday 15th March from 3pm

$5 gets you a stall/space.:

artists, badgemakers, writers, kitschy retro..whatever you like!

There will be bands playing, there will be a market, there will be mask making and mural painting, there will be DJs, there will hopefully not be a noise pollution fine. But otherwise it will be as damn fun as the last ones, and if you came to those, you know what to expect.

(obligatory facebook link)

We'll also hire some tables and try for plenty of light-I'll make sure personally of that.

Bands so far confirmed:

ouch my face
GAY
the females
drumheller
surf surf surf
smoking hot bitch

So...let me know what you think and feel free to spread the word so we can get lots of people there
cheers
Cate

I haven't posted in a while, but I have been hard at work on my wedding jewellery. My theme is the "1940's Gangster" sort of thing (men in zoot suits, etc.) and I finished my tiara this weekend.

Hello and happy new year! I'm trying to change the way I use the computer. Less blogging and escaping life by endless reading of LJ, more doing stuff and blogging about what I've made. Here's an example of one of my voodoo dolls:

horseclose2

Check out my last two entries for other things I've made recently. I've taught myself to knit and sculpt and I'm pretty proud. However, I'm finding it pretty interesting that my friends care less about what I've made than drama/whinging/gossip, what have you. Do you guys find that it's just best to share your art and craft stuff with like-minded people in a community? Do you cross-post?

Does this question make sense? :D I just spent 4 hours of a road trip knitting in the car so I'm a bit fuzzy minded.
