Sweater Goodness
Nov. 3rd, 2008 06:37 amIts been a while since I've bragged about yarn based goodness in anywhere beyond my journal:
Last night I finished the canopy sweater from the Interweave KnitScene.

Happy belated Halloween! :)
I loooove pumpkin carving, and I just thought I'd share my pumpkins from this year!
This is my favorite for this year. Since we had so many little kids last year, I wanted to make a more kid friendly design. I chose Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street. Pyper loves her and I thought the design was cute (though I'll admit that I thought it looked like an easier design. Ummm...not so much!)

T-Shirt Blanket
Nov. 3rd, 2008 09:42 amHello Fellow Crafters!
I am relatively new to the crafting world--well, not really, but I feel like I am... There is so much to learn. Anyway, I am in the process of making my Christmas gifts, and at the moment am working on a t-shirt blanket. I have the front all done--the shirts sewn together and all. I am just wondering what kind of backing would be best that would provide a decent amount of warmth (but not too warm because his body tends to run hot all the time) but still be kinda lightweight. And would help it stay sturdy. Also, is there a specific type of batting I would want to use more than others?
I am new the world of sewing, so any advice would be helpful... Perhaps some W.I.P. pics will show up on here sometime soon.
Thanks!

So dainty.
Nov. 3rd, 2008 09:47 amThis is one of my favorite scarves ever. Simple 1x1 rib, but the details make me wanna pinch its figurative cheeks. It reminds me of the magic of winter.

Halloween costumes.
Nov. 3rd, 2008 10:12 amEven though Halloween isn't exactly my favorite festive day, this year, somehow I kinda got into it a bit.
We even went trick-or-treating, which was a first for my boys.
I figured I would make their costumes.
I didn't want anything too cumbersome, as they are both quite fidgety fellows.
And I wanted to make sure they would be warm enough without a coat if it was chilly.
I can recall being seriously bummed out when my mom would make me wear a coat to go trick-or-treating, "Like, MOOOOMM! It's covering my whole costume!!"
So, these guys were my inspiration:

( Really, they have nothing to do with Travelocity. Although, now that I think of it, I do watch the Amazing Race and holy subliminal messaging! )

A question and a TON of pictures.
Nov. 3rd, 2008 01:02 pmOk, I'll start with the question first.
Since my son has died, we have a room filled with all of his baby things.
As of right now they're all just sitting there, collecting dust.
We don't want to get rid of them, because we plan on having another baby one day, but we also feel that some things, like his onesies, will never be able to be used by another baby.
My pseudo mother-in-law came up with the idea of taking his onesies and making a quilt out of them, and using his receiving blankets as the backing. I love the idea, but I've never quilted before.
Now, my question is, how do I quilt them, without that special fancy quilting foot?
I have a sewing machine, but I just have the regular foot.
I'm thinking of cutting the onesies up into squares, and sewing them all together without any fancy pattern or anything, but then how do I attach the backing to the onesies?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
And also, I've been meaning to post pictures here for a while.
Everyone loved what I did in my son's nursery (I posted the pics here before he was born), and since his death I have decided to go into business making custom nursery decor in his honor.
10% of all the proceeds are going to an organization that works with Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units that make beautiful keepsakes for grieving parents. We were given a cast of his feet which was wrapped in a handmade quilt that had his name embroidered, and then placed inside a hand painted box. All the work is done by volunteers and is usually paid for out of their pockets, so I'm hoping to be able to help them out.
Anyway, on to what I've been making!
(And don't worry. I know better than to spam you guys with links to my etsy and whatnot.)
