I hope this doesn't come off as an advertisement, but I am seriously looking for crafts (especially jewelry) to distribute. I really wanna use others, including my own. I will be tabling locally here in Pennsylvania, so if you are interested, check out my distro site (http://www11.brinkster.com/rollerskatejams) and let me know whats up!

i'm pretty new to the art of crocheting and so far the only thing i've made is a scarf from the "i taught myself how to crochet" book i picked up at walmart. somehow, i agreed to make a scarf for a co-worker and i have 2 days in which to do it. can someone suggest a fairly simple/easy scarf pattern that can be whipped up in very little time. i have 3 skeins of homespun yarn and a skein of light and lofty yarn at my disposal. i'm ready to get started. i just need a pattern/instructions.

I made these for Christmas gifts, I am sending one to [livejournal.com profile] athenadax because she is the best.
I used a coke bottle bottom for a mold instead and it looks like a massage bar.

Okay so I've gone nuts with those darn marble magnet things, anyone else?
I feel like I need to create a marble magnet anonymous or something.

I don’t have pics of the ones I’ve done, but my older sister gave me a funny idea for my next batch.
I should have thought of it first, because I usually have the sick humor, but her idea was to cut out naked body parts and have fun using them on actual photos on the fridge. I can think of two friends who'd love these or maybe just make a batch for myself this time.

I'm sure not everyone would be amused, but I would find it hilarious to put marbles of huge hooters on my guy friends before they came over. lol.

Yes it was a rather crafty weekend! I had my boyfriend painting a model car (that I purchased for him as a bribe to allow me more time in the craft store), and I did my stuff. This project in particular took a lot of time... mainly because I seem to have ADD and cannot sit still for more than 10 minutes!

ok, I have yet another question

I assumed that you would put the glue on the photo and then attatch the photo to the marble, but in the deal I read, you just smoosh the marble down on the photo. So has anyone tried both ways?

I guess I could just try both ways and fail at one.

See once I get instructions I get even more questions. I'm doomed to fail at the whole ordeal.

so i made that scarf and hat, and i was wondering if anyone had good ideas of what to package it in. my sister is finally moving out soon, and i was thinking something functional for the apartment that i could package my gift in. anyone? it could be something made or something you think i could make soon....

sorry got another question. I was wondering where do you get those silicone gel that you use to make those marble magnets or marble pins. thanks again!

I am wanting to make a lap size quilt for my husbands grandmother. The kind I want to make doesn't have much sewing involved but I don't know what it is called. Basically you tie a bunch thread all over it to connect the top with the stuffing and the backing and then you have little ties all over it.

Does anyone know where online I could find instructions for this or what it is called? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

a question if you don't mind..

ok. so i do not knit. there are so many crafts for knitting. but i want something else. i've already done marble magnets, wax paper stars, snow globes, etc.

any suggestions?

---

oh. here's one with the marble magnets..

i wanted to do something crafty for my boy's mum for xmas..i did the things for the marble magnets, but didn't make them magnets. i used tons of pictures of flowers and half filled a really cool vase i found (for only $2.99!) with those and the rest with the regular clear and some colored gems. and bought cool fake flowers ($1 a bunch), i used star gazer lillies. it looks really cool and a good mumsy gift.

First, the question:

A friend of mine (who is now out of town for the holidays) was working on a really neat type of homemade christmas ornament. It looked like she was folding pyramid-shaped things out of cardboard and wrapping them in embroidery floss. She had a pattern and instructions for this which appeared to be photocopied from a crafty-type-book.

Has anyone ever heard of this sort of thing, and can they point me in the right direction for findout what what/how? (I've checked the faq/memories section and not seen anything, but I didn't read through every post.)

Now for the picture:

My friends and I have been making sock monkeys lately. There's a girl at my school who is (I'm not kidding) doing her senior thsis on sock monkeys. I thought that was ridiculous at first, but I realized after a while that it is indeed folk art. And fun, too. :P

Here are my babies. I made them for Christmas presents, but I may have a hard time parting with them:

Here are some instruction sites. (Not mine, just ones I found on the web.)

I'd like to make one of those knitting needle holders for a friend of mine, but I don't knit (yet, anyway).

Which means, I don't have knitting needles to use to figure out how to make one, and I don't know how many pockets and what sort of things would be helpfull to just make it up out of my brain.

Does anyone have directions to make one of these? I don't know how big and/or tall the pockets should be, etc.

Thanks!!

Last time I looked at our 'memories' (saturday) we didn't just have a memory for links... So if in this thread we could link all of our fav. crafting sites I'd be very happy.... so often things get mentioned here, and I forget to check them out and then lose the link.

...and I'll add my own here

I'm sure I'm not the only pagan in search of good crafting ideas for this season (I like to incorporate crafts into every ritual) so I thought I should share an amazing site I just found. For each holiday they have crafts and recipes.

this feels like a dumb question...

How do you follow a sewing pattern?
I bought a pattern for a dress and this really pretty fabric and everything, and even stuff to go on the hem. But I don't know how to start!
[identity profile] savateuse.livejournal.com
has anyone tried printer printed images for their marble magnets? Does the ink run when you apply the gluing solvent?
[identity profile] dearanxiety.livejournal.com
where do you get the marbles??? pet stores? (they look like a fish tank supply.)

So I was cleaning my closet a few days ago and found out that I have 12 shower curtain rings in my closet for some bizarre reason. They're about 1.5" in diameter (I think - I don't have a ruler) and they're just plain silver. What should I make with them? :)
[identity profile] heavenontv.livejournal.com
one more marble magnet question and i will then run into hiding! even after drying, my images appear to have wet spots on them. when i put them up on the fridge, these spots appear as dark blotches. i'm using bond 527 as my sealer. i've tried different amounts of sealer and different pressures when pushing down the marble. could this be caused by the images being too thin? these wet spots happen on thin and thick paper, though. any suggestions would be great!

also, what are these record bowls people keep mentioning?
[identity profile] iworshipsatin.livejournal.com
I saw marble magnets at Rite Aid for 7 bucks a pack. They only had 10 or 15 marbles in them.
We can start an empire and take over the world, mmmkay?

::UPDATE:: They go for that FINISHED. All put together.

Does anyone else do any cross stitching or know of websites with cute christmas/winter patterns?

Does anyone have a pattern or know of a way for a beginning knitter to knit wrist bands/warmers? Any help is appreciated. (I scoured the FAQ but couldn't find anything that could save me.)

Hello everyone,

My mom has fallen in love with wine charms...You know, the little rings with beads or charms on them that you put on glasses at parties to differentiate whose is whose. The problem is that a lot of them look really cheap or have stupid beads on them, so I was thinking, WHAT A GREAT THING TO MAKE! I was just wondering if anyone had tried this and if you have any advice?

Matryoshka

I've always been fascinated by wooden Russian matryoshka nesting dolls. Today, I was at the Christmas market downtown and saw a million of them, some of which were merely decoupaged, painted and varnished (the Harry Potter one caught my eye). So, I did a little online hunting, and now I'm excited as hell because I can buy some unfinished, unpainted matryoshka dolls here and decoupage whatever (and whomever) I want onto them. (Spice Girls, anyone? Heh.) Can you say fun?

If anyone knows of any other stores, online or otherwise, that sell these (perhaps cheaper?) please let me know.

Old age has it's down side. Trying to do fine details that I use to see easily is now a major chore. The links that follow show 4 things I worked on this weekend, the first two, a spirit doll face and a painted mini dream box, the last two are works in progress, a birdhouse and a star box:

I never knew how wonderful acrylic medium really was until now. People always told me it could be used as a glue, but damn! That stuff is incredible. I do have some forewarning though. I first attempted to used Utrecht gloss medium that comes in a tube. I hate that version for painting, it's so gloppy and gooey. Sadly, it's not much better for magnets. It ruined a lovely rightous babe magnet, made it all cloudy and pasty inside.

I've been using liquitex gloss medium, and according to what the first person who suggested acrylic medium said, liquitex matte medium works too. It holds beautifully, dies completely clear, and is not nearly as smelly as some of those other glues, not to mention you can use it for a billion other things...

Does anyone know if it will also work in place of modge podge?

I've made a ton of wine charm sets to give as gifts, and for each one I bought a little cheapy box at Michael's - some of the little wooden ones, some the brown decoupage. For my grad school mentor I made a celestial set, and to make the box I started with one of the thin wooden ones and painted it shimmery silver. It looked chintzy, but I wasn't sure what to do. Then I looked up an on my table was a bag of those little cosmetic sponge wedges (long story, but they were tucked inside my sewing kit). I daubed a little indigo paint on one end and rubbed it onto the silver box and VOILA! It came out this shimmery pewter color and it looks really fabulous. On the inside, I did the same thing but reverse - silver on top of the blue - and it's just really neat. I can't post any pics BUT -

Cosmetic sponge wedges are my new favorite paint accessory.

(crossposted to beadwork)

I do mostly bead stringing, and have never done anything with seed beading except for a few snowflakes. I bought a book recently that gives step-by-step instructions on some simple (and not-so-simple) designs, so I did 2 of them. Here are the results!

Iridescent clear netted necklace

Brown and gold netted necklace

Black and gold netted necklace with bugle beads

I had some trouble getting the tension right on the last one...the necklace wants to curl around too much. Any suggestions? If I don't pull it tight I find that the picots want to come undone. I'm using Nymo thread.

EDIT: The name of the book I used is called "Beading with Ruby - a beginner's guide to creating beautiful beaded jewelry", written by Sandy "Ruby" Fischer. Ruby is a well-known contributor to the Jewelry Making forum at about.com. Ruby's web site has information about the book, as well as how to order it. I highly recommend it.
