this is my first post here, so HII.

this is my first bag. i just started sewing. i've altered a few tshirts and made some simple skirts. anyway, its a heavy white canvasy material. (i don't know what it is, it was a remnant fabric for $1.25) one edge was supposed to be curved, but it didn't work quite how i wanted (but a water bottle fits nicely in the curve-y part) and then an iron on transfer and some red lace on the top. it was pretty simple and only cost about $2 for all the materials.

also, how do you line a bag? its probably very simple so i'll look like a doofus asking this, but i thought someone here would know.

Sorry if this is FAQ-ed, I did check the list but didn't see anything. I'd like to hear from people with xyron machines if they like them or not. I've been intrigued with them for awhile but I always forced myself to ignore them at Joann's because I'm always spending way too much money there.

Anyway, I was looking them up tonight and I discovered you can make magnets with them. If any of you have made magnets, how sturdy are they? Is the magnet basically paper on one side and a thin magnetic backing? Are stickers just paper with a sticky backing? Or is there some kind of laminating going on here as well?

I'd love to have one for crafts and I think I'd eventually like to try scrapbooking and it would definately come in handy then. But I was thinking that I may actually be able to justify this purchase for work. I'm a realtor, and I've been looking into a way of making magnets for my business cards, as well as small promotional stickers and such. Would the 510 machine work well for this? My main problem with ordering this stuff ready made is that they require that you to order a huge initial quantity and I'm just getting started and it would be better (and cheaper) to make small batches when I need them.

So I'm interested in your input on this machine. It's $45 on Joann.com with one adhesive roll, but I noticed that it's also on QVC.com for $55, but it comes with two adhesive rolls, a laminating roll, and the magnet roll. I've seen how expensive these rolls are so this seems like a much better deal.

Oh yeah, one more thing - how long are these rolls and how many average-sized (business card sized) stickers/magnets can you get on a roll?

Thank you!

How long is glycerin soap good for? I found some in a cardboard box that i bought probably...4 years ago, and they're really cute skull and cameo shapes. Just wondering if it's safe to use or if i should throw them out.

Right. I've looked in the FAQ/Memories sections under 'knitting' and I couldn't find the solution so...

Does anyone know how to stop your knitting from curling? Am I knitting too tight or something? Can I iron it out or maybe wash it out?

Thanks :)

shirt

i am thinking i need some help with this shirt.

earlier tonight my friend and I decided we wanted to be crafty. so i cut sleeves off, trimmed the collar and made a slit where i put pink pola dot ribbon. along the sides i made slits where i put some more of the ribbon. does anyone have some suggestions? it looks so plain and sloppy right now.

You all are very helpful, so I figured I'd pass a question by that I haven't been able to find an answer for, for a long time.

I have a lebret piercing and a small glob of dichoric glass with a flat back that I would like to glue somehow so I can wear it. I have the glue, I just need the metal piece.

I'm looking for a lebret piercing that is flat on both sides so I can glue something to the front without it being completely uncomfortable to the inside of my mouth.... Any suggestions????

my boyfriend let me have his old guitar strap because i promised to give it a makeover. it's a leopard print strap but it's really grungy looking cuz it's so old.. i want to take the leopard off and make it a green strap with pictures of mario and other video game characters on it cuz we're big nerdy gamers.
i was thinking of using heat transfers on the fabric and THEN sewing it onto the strap.. but do u think it will last?? is there anything i could put over the designs to seal the images in?

My boyfriend's sister is going away to college for the first time in a few weeks and I want to make her a care package...any ideas of what to put in it?

I decided I needed some more normal clothes for when i just feel like blending in so I made myself a good ol' fashion Hoodie!
hoodie

My apologies to all you northern hemisphere-ists who break into sweat just looking at a hoodie this time of year but it's coldish down here!

I finally got around to buying myself a disposable camera and got a few shots of my crafts. They're thumbnailed, so just click to get the big versions.

I'll show you another world )

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Click to see the critter pillow I made:
http://www.villagephotos.com/viewpubimage.asp?id_=3740409

I made Nathan, my husband hold the pillow so you can see how big it is. If you look close you can see its black eyes made of ribbon.

I also made a funny little cat toy out of a scrap of the same fabric and put cat nip inside. Um, I guess it is a worm. The cats love it. I highly recomend making cat nip toys out of all your scrap, it will make your kitties happy, they don't care what it looks like!

So I saw this listed on my friends info, and i was like, woah, I need to join that considering I can't go into a craft store without getting 1000 ideas on things I could do. So here I am.

I just made this. Its just a little camo heart added to a shirt that I haven't worn in a couple years. Nothing great, but cute. I have an awesome bag in the works.

I posted last week about buying a sewing machine. I got it earlier in the week and finally set it up earlier today. I had planned on making my mom a knitting needle holder as my first project, but after i cut out the pieces there was a strip of the outer piece and the lining big enough to make a small purse, so i made that first instead.

My bag )

Gah!

Okay, I always see Kirsten Dunst in bunches of photos, wearing this hat...maybe knitted...maybe crocheted...and it reminds me of this hat my grandma used to have. it's fitted around the opening and then kinda big and poofy-ish in the back. if anyone knows what i am talking about, do you know what they are called or where I could find a pattern?

I know that animal fibers dye pretty easily but does cotton? I work at Jo-Ann's and we just got all this Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in a few weeks ago. I want to knit a mat to throw down in my room after I rip out the carpet. The problem is that they don't have any colors that I would like for my bedroom, but they do have white. Anyone dyed cotton before? Any tips? All people who respond to this will have my undying gratitude and lots of love and kisses.

Today was my nephew's third birthday party. We had a Spongebob theme going on.
The table cloth was one of those $4.00 ones with about 50 pictres of Spongebob on it. They were all of him making different faces.
I asked if I could have the table cloth because I thought I could make over-sized postcards out of them. They are too flimsy to mail by themselves, obviously, so I was wondering what I could gle them to to make them sturdier.
Also, for glues I have Twice as Tacky Glue, Blue Gel Glue, White Regular Glue, Glue Sticks, and Rbber Cement. What do you all think would be the best glue to use?

Does it even sound like it will work?

I'm new here. So hi *waves*. Been lurking for ages, thought I would post something for you all to ridicule..

More baggage. Yes, I know it's not too great, but it's the first one I've made from scratch and as such forgot to make allowances for the hemming as well as the seams (which is why the main part of the bag is smaller than the flappy thing. The whole bag thing is really a work in progress at the moment, and I think I've learnt from this one a lot (ie, I don't think the next one I make will have strap issues. woohoo)

no clothing was harmed during the making of this bag )

I make crafty items, usually paint wood boxes and add pics and photos with glue and decoupage over them, add sheen and/or glitter. the problem is, that the dried paint runs over the picture while I'm spreading the glue over it. I've included a pic of it, you can't really tell because I blotted it while the paint and glue were still wet, but it always makes the print look stained. I hate the damaged messed up look my stuff gets. anything to remedy this?

rag quilts

has anyone here ever made a homespun rag quilt?

i'm working on one right now, (2 rows left to go! wooo!) and you're supposed to wash and dry it when it's done to make the edges fray. here's the deal, our washer is broken but our dryer works fine. i can't afford to go to the laundry mat tonight. if i just got it wet and threw it in our dryer, do you think it'd work? i know i have to check the lint trap like every 10 minutes (which is the other reason i don't want to go to the laundry mat) but do you think the spin cycle in the washer does anything? or just the dryer?

thanks in advance, craft grrls! (i'll post a picture when it's done)
