I'm looking to purchase a bunch of 1/2" bolo tie slides. I've looked online and found a couple of sources, but I'd like to know if anyone in this community has a supplier that they are happy with or that they'd suggest.

If this is in the memories, I'm sorry - I really did look.

What's the best way to attach vellum to a piece of cardstock? This is probably a stupid question, but I just don't know. I've used a glue stick all night long for various other things, but you can (obviously) see the glue through the vellum. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Hey there! We're going to do a silent art auction as a fundraiser for this year's FatGirl Speaks, and we need some talented artists to donate a piece of BBW-inspired art; paintings/sketches/glasswork/sculpture/mixed media/pottery/whatever.

We're hoping for between 15 to 20 pieces, in various price ranges. The auction will be held in March of 2004 in Portland, Oregon. If you're interested in being involved and supporting this very worthwhile cause, please contact me at info@fatgirlspeaks.com - Thanks!

I recently did a trade with one of the owners at Laffing Horse Farms (spindle in exchange for fiber) And I just wanted to let any spinners or fiber handlers know that their fiber is very nice! They sent me quite an assortment (2 raw Jacob fiber bumps, 3 first clip mohair in 2 colors, some charcoal sheep's wool & also a smidge of angora) They also sent me 2 small decorative cakes of 37% goat's milk soap which is wonderful :)

They just began doing this last year & the sheep & goats were brought in off the range so there's a little VM to pick through (looks like it's all bits of straw/hay/grass & not very much at that, certainly have seen worse on other raw fibers I've bought)

Anyway, I'm just a very happy camper with the buttery quality of their fibers & wanted to share them as a resource :) NAYY

Hmm well I'm in a bit of a spot and was wondering if you girls could help me out.

I've decided to make a "dinner-in-a-basket" gift for my boyfriend's parents. Now, the part is, WHAT kind of meal should I do? His father is a culinary artist so they're open to pretty much anything. Suggestions are VERY welcome, as well as creative ways to spruce up the basket.

Thanks!

If you hear that I commited suicide... I didn't! It was a BOOK HOLLOWING accident! ARGH!

TIPS:
DON'T watch tv while hollowing a book, even for a second!
DON'T get impatient.

*laughing* at myself, 'cause it's amusing, and I'm weird.

For anyone who lives in Southern California in the Valencia/Santa Clarita Valley or really anywhere near there. The Valencia Joanns is clearing out a bunch of clearance fabrics. All going for 2 cents a yard. I got over 40 yards of fabric today for 76 cents!!!

So my dad and step-mom asked for my christmas list... And although i have a few things i want, I am running low on ideas.

What are you guys requesting for christmas? i need suggestions.
[identity profile] shellsofthedeep.livejournal.com
So, I was talking with a close friend of mine and we mentioned that we want to exchange practical Christmas gifts. She told me she wants a mirror big enough to see her entire face so that she can put it in her bedroom. Well, being the creative person I am, I can't just give Sara a mirror, I am going to have to decorate it somehow. I am going to go through the FAQ/Memories section when I get back from my anthropology final (think good thoughts of me at 6pm west-coast time) and decide WHAT I want to do to the mirror but am so excited that I had to share this with you girls! (My husband wasn't as excited as some of you might be! LOL Who would have guessed!?)

So, Sara is an English major and a German major and I thought about etching something in German on the mirror and using some sort of paint ... maybe even *gasp* puff paint *faints* to decorate the frame. What do you girls think of that idea? I might etch it or something like that, too. I'm way into decorating things but also don't know if I want to make an elaborately etched frame around the mirror (as in vines all the way around) or whether I want to paint/etch something at the top or the bottom or something. What do you all think? Help me out here and I'll be back later to make more decisions!

Have any ideas of what I could do?

PS - I love this community!
[identity profile] ireneadler.livejournal.com
I've got a question for the Yarn Goddesses out there. I'm knitting scarves for all my family members this Christmas. (Ten down, one to go!) I made my niece one out of Lion Brand Boucle. I just found out she's allergic to wool. This yarn is 78% acrylic, 20% mohair, and 1% nylon. Are people with wool allergies allergic to mohair as well? Thanks for any and all help.

Hey Guys.. Does anyone have any t-shirt patterns or siglet top patterns. Or if you guys no any FREE sites with patterns. Also how do you tun stranps inside out when they are really small.
Thanx

These are all pretty much random butttt..here goes!

*What would be the best way, and the best type of thread to take in a pair of vinyl pants that I have? I've never tried taking in an article of clothing, so could someone point me in the right direction? ^_^

*Im pretty much broke this year for X-mas. I want to get my mom something but I figure it would be more sentimental if I could just make something up. Shes working on getting a management position for the cafeteria in elem./middle/high schools and shes a baker/likes to bake. The gift wouldn't really have to relate to that, but I thought it would be nice if it could. I can sew and probably do other things that aren't costly. Any suggestions??

*The other night I went to Wal*Mart and decided I wanted to learn how to knit. I bought a roll of yarn and a 'Knitting Made Easy' booklet. I dont think I have knitting needles, but I have crochet needles, which could probably work efficiently enough, right? The booklet is really confusing, so could someone leave a link or contact me with a little help? lol.

Thats all for now!

Oh yeah..and I made a cute gift for my boyfriend for our anniversary/x-mas. I was telling someone on here about it awhile ago. I'll upload pics and post them in a few minutes!

I have baked fimo in my oven but now that my cats like using the oven area as their play space I don't like the idea of having to stand there and wait for my fimo to bake. I was thinking about buying a cheap toaster oven and using it just for crafty baking. Is baking fimo/clay a toaster oven safe thing to do?
[identity profile] sandwhichestime.livejournal.com
ok so here is the deal. my roommates boyfriend is super hard to shop for. and since they're both into the japanese stuff she thought it would be cool to put his name in english on a pair of chopsticks and either write his name out in japanese or write something else in japanese on the other side.

now, my question is: is there any glue that's safe to "mod podge" on eating utensils? i say "mod podge" in quotes because we don't actually have any and it would be kind of pointless for her to buy a whole bottle of it to just use a little bit.

or can any one think of something better than just putting his name on chopsticks? her last resort is meat. but who wants to buy meat for their boyfriend? well, he'd probably like it the big dork that he is:(

i'm wondering if there's any specific pattern makers that whose patterns fit a size xs really well. i keep browsing through the simplicity online and the two patterns i like are size 8 and up.

i'm actually looking to get a spaghetti strap tank top pattern right now.

thanks!

okay, this may be a bit offtopic, but i need a crafty solution, so you girls and boys might be able to help.

it's finals week at my college, and i'm an art major. my painting class is what i'm having trouble with, because silly me can't let go of an idea she had. i was trying to work with oils, but i didn't like the look of it on canvas, and i really wanted to work with something more... built up. ideally i'd like to work with encaustics (melted wax paint).

according to a professor all i really need is wax (either paraffin or beeswax), something to warm it up with, like a hotplate, cheap brushes, oil paint to mix into the wax, and possibly a heat gun.

now, i don't have most of these things. the big problem (in my eyes) is where to buy wax, especially on a budget/time restraint (friday), and especially given that i do not have a car. i can get to a hardware store and an art supply store (and possibly but i'm not holding my breath, a walmart), but that may be the extent of it. do you think any of those things might be sold at a hardware store or an art store? i wish i were near a candlemaking store. :)

or, alternately, can anyone think of any other alternate painting methods that could give an interesting effect? a friend of mine paints with glue and acrylic paint, so that's not an option, don't want to copy. :) but if you could think of anything interesting i could mix into the paint (beyond the typical glazing mediums) to give a bit of substance to the paint, i'd love a suggestion.

again, sorry it's a little offtopic but i get the feeling you people could think up some really crafty solutions/answers. thanks!

Hiya! I just got my livejournal today and I`m so excited! Anyway, I know everyone is sick of the what to get who questions but this one is different. I`m doing Secret Santa with two programs and here are the people I got:

1) under $10 She is Mexican, she likes the color red and she`s 15 and that`s all I know about her

2) under $15 She loves to exercise and she is also Mexican. She`s a high school junior

So yeah. If anyone can help, that will be great. Friends will be great too!

will it mold? can i dice it thinly, let it dry and add it to the soap mix?

thankyou in advance for the help=)

Does anyone know where I could go about finding snaps? Like the ones on jackets and whatnot?

I have made something wonderful and I need to find a closure for it.
Also, how would I go about attaching a snap to a knitted product? Any tips, hints, or suggestion would be ever so appreciated.

Today in a burst of impulse I bought 6 balls of “wool-ease thick and quick lion brand yarn” to make my bf an afghan, not yet even knowing how to crochet. I also bought a beginners book, and I have succeeded to figure out the simple patterns so much so that I can make a scarf sort of thing now.

Now my problem is, how do I put together a blanket with six 6 oz/170 grams & 108 yards/ 98 meters of super chunky weight yarn?

I am such a beginner at this, I need to know if there is even a way to put together pieces of crochet without it being obvious to the eye?

Should I just start working and make uneven rectangles and hope to be able to put it all together at the end? Im very confused as to the ratios, etc.

Or maybe I should make even sized squares so they’ll at least have some sort of consistency?

ANY tips would be welcome.
Thank you guys so much
