I'm sorry to be a bother here, but I honestly can't find the post that was put up here recently...

I'm looking to tie a perfect bow (out of ribbon, just a regular bow). I thought this question was asked here within the past few days but I can't find it for the life of me.

...Help?

I never noticed this, so i'm sure other people haven't either, and I know some of you girls will find it useful. On your 'Personal Info' page, there's an option you can check that says 'Use image placeholders on your friends page', which means lj turns them into a link so you don't have to wait for them to load, you can just pick and choose which ones to look at. You can also choose to use it on all pictures, or just on ones over a certain size. I know there are lots of gals like me on dial-up or who hate having their friends page all screwed up because of big pictures, and this is a picture heavy community.

Anyway, have a nice day!

Hi! This is actually my first actual post here, although I've been here for a while. Anyway...

I had fun cutting up old jeans last night that I hated the fit of (I absoutely abhor straight legged jeans), and made a purse. The only thing is - it's missing something, and I hate the strap. i'm just always terrified of adding things or re-constructing things because I get all "what if I don't like it?" The purse is dark blue. Do you guys have any ideas on how I should decorate it? I can't think up anything. I'm not very artsy, so fabric paints and the like are out. Now, I didn't make a lining for it - I figured, first try, let's wait and see how it turns out. I did add an inside pocket, and all the original pockets are still functional (good for me, since I tend to carry a lot of things). It'll be perfect as a bag for suncreen, cell phone, keys, hairbrush, ponytail holders, a book and my bathing suit during the summer.

Thanks for any tips you can all give me. ^^ Now, off to clean my room so I can find more clothes that I can remake. (I think I'm addicted.) There's a Winnie the Pooh sweatshirt around here somewhere...

I've rekindled my love for sewing. What was the fate of these polka dots?

Hi,
I'm another long time lurker - first time poster :)
Fabulous community here, always makes me feel so creative. I was inspired by a post made by [livejournal.com profile] theinnocence, it was a wrapped wire crown. I loved the idea and made a bunch of wrapped wire stuff, it's under the cut.

lots of free time, or just alot of wire )

I'm planning on sewing a panel into a pair of too-small thrift shorts. There's a small snag in my planning and I'm hoping someone here could help.

I was really hoping to just cut off the seams, cut through the waistband and sew in the panels because I don't like seam ripping and, as [livejournal.com profile] heresyoftruth mentioned in the FAQ entry on the topic, it causes waistband issues.

However, it looks like I'll have to seam rip, because there could be some weird pocket problems if I don't, and there's a rivit smack dab in the middle of what would be my seam allowance. I suppose if I'm *really* careful I might be able to cut off the seam and sew on just the other side of the rivet (maybe cutting it off once I'm done sewing.

If you want to see what I'm talking about look here )

so, should I sew the rivet into my seam allowance, or seam rip and deal with the waistband issues. If the second choice: how do you fix problems with the waistband? (I wasn't clear on this with the FAQ)

Thank you!

I need some help.
My friend's birthday is coming up but we aren't going to see eachother over our spring break. And her birthdy is over spring break. The last time I'll see her is Tuesday. So I have to get her present done by then or a little before then. I want to make her a shirt. We both love The Brendan Leonard show and in an episode (the camp jinx episode, incase there are some brendan leonard fans in this community) Brendan goes "I'm a lemur" and does this little hand motion. We both think it's hilarious and everytime theres a akward silence we do that. So I'm going to make her a shirt with a lemur on it and next to it right "I'm a lemur" Only problem is...
I don't know how to make stencils. I just need a stencil for a picture of a lemur because I think I can manage to make one for the words. So how would I go about making a stencil. Any help is appreciated.

Here's the picture I want to make into a stencil,if it helps )

sorry, i posted this already, but then had to delete it due to picture problems.

so, i had an art assignment, i had to build a "creative organic looking container" i had no idea what my teacher meant by that, but i tried anyway. this is my first time working with clay, so forgive any crudeness. :)

prom dress

[identity profile] kachina.livejournal.com
i would very much like to try making my own prom dress although i've only sewn a few small things in the past like pillows, pj shorts and skirts. my only problem is that i have a pretty poor sewing machine and am afraid that it would not be able to tackle something too complex. while browsing some fashion websites, i spotted the number below (in the foreground) and got very excited at the prospect of making something similar. my question is, do any of you know of patterns that look like the dress below? and do you think it would be very difficult to make? also, i was curious about how i can make the skirt of the dress so "poofy" without wearing a petticoat...

thanks in advance!

Hey Ladies,
Long time, no post.

I have this swim suit that I got last summer, and it's an XL... But I'm really not an XL anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if I was a medium now. But anyway, I was curious how to take it in? The material itself isn't that stretchy at all, and I was wondering if I would need a stretchy thread? I dunno.. ANYTHING regarding this would help me a bunch.

Thanks for listening!

Does anyone know if those cheap little sewing machines are any good? I can't really aford a real sewing machine, but I want to make a skirt...Does anyone have any experience with the cheap little ones you get at Wal-Mart? Please let me know! Thanks!
