First off, this is not a gift idea post!
I'll be showing at two conventions in September, and at the last convention I was at, I completely ran out of business cards. At that one, I just spread my cards all over the table, but at the next con I'm going to (Kumoricon), I'm going to have very limited table space, so I'm going to need a creative way to display my business cards.
I was wondering if anyone here has some ideas on how to display cards?

This is an excited update on an old post, no gift idea or problem. Here goes: I posted a knit purse with bamboo handles about a month ago, had zoo lining and a magnetic clasp. I had made it as an experiment for a friend who loves strange purses, mostly vintage styles. I had never seen her carrying it until yesterday... only to find out from her roommate that she has been wanting to ask me to make another one in black so she can carry one of them everywhere. Then the roommate asked if I could possibly make one for her and how much I'd charge. Then two other underclassmen in the film school's BFA thesis office were shocked that I'd made the purse and asked if they could get in on a purse of their own. When I said that I'd been thinking of making a bunch and going to the flea market to bargain the prices to make some extra cash, they told me to post a flyer and they'd all be there... it just made me feel great to hear that not only was the present enjoyed, but film students are all willing to pay me to make custom ones for them. :D Just thought I'd share... will post pics as they are made.

I found this book ) at my local thrift store for $2. Although it's dated, it supplies instructions for needlepoint, embroidery, applique, patchwork, macrame, rug hooking, knitting, and crocheting and patterns for all of these things. I had never thought of looking at the thrift store for craft books. I thought I'd throw in a pic of a knitting pattern ) just because I think it's funny.

I need a business card holder, or actually probably about 2 business card holders... one for work and one for home. I can't bring myself to buying one when I probably have materials at home that I can use.

Any ideas what I could use and how to make one? I want it to look good for the office one, and the one for home would just be painted black to match my oriental theme.

So my newest project is making a doll version of David Bowie's character from the movie The Labyrinth. Page of reference photos here. And for the costume, I'm going to have to make that curled collar.

The last time I made a collar, I took a piece of packaging backing (you know that sort of cardboard, sort of paper stuff that's on the back of, say, a pair of pens or something like that?) cut it into the shape I wanted, and sewed it into the fabric. (Picture here.) But this time there's a still curl in the collar, and I'm not sure that same method would work.

Anyone know of a way to keep the piece of backing in that curled shape? Or is there a better way to reproduce the collar?

Hello. I'm a first-time poster who needs some advice.

I have a whole bunch of straight, business-type skirts I'm not wearing because they're too short and I want to re-use the material. My first instinct is to use it for quilting, but the fabric isn't machine washable (wool, polyester, or a blend). I could also make purses, but I have more than enough as it is.

What else could I use the fabric for?

Thanks a lot.

Howdy :)

Well, my girlfriend and I learned to silkscreen and did a couple of shirts with this tutorial as a guide, and they turned out great. But, the images we printed were very thick-lined, large-scale cartoony-things. In other words, there weren't really any fine details.

Now I'd like to do some things a little more detailed, but I'm afraid I can't make it as crisp/clear as I want to with just the glue and the paintbrush. Are there any tips you guys have to get detailed images to print correctly? Is it even possible?

Thanks :)

Today I went to the Salvation Army and found these AMAZING cleats! They're so awesome... and they're pink.

Anyway, I want to remove the spikes. I don't really want to go buy that special tool that my mom said I have to use... does anyone have any suggestions? I want to wear them tomorrow, but obviously, I can't.

Oh, I tried to twist them with pliers, no luck. Same with the pulling. They just won't budge.
I've been thinking of removing the sole and seeing if they screw in, but then the sole will not be glued in as well anymore, which would stink.

HELP PLEASE! <3

i was browsing through the most recent issue of readymade magazine and there was an article on how to spruce up a coffee table w/ real coffee stains. i tried it with my own coffee table and i'm very happy with the results. it was very easy to do. all you need is a table of your choice, sand it down w/ sandpaper, paint it with gesso, wait til it dries then put some coffee in a bowl, dip your cups in the coffee and stamp the table away. you can be as messy as you want and blot it down or leave little puddles of coffee for more contrast.

I got some pony bead lacing and I was wondering how I could make the ends of the cord stay together besides knotting it? I didn't buy clasps or anything... And I dind't just want to knot the bracelets and have htem break. I am making them for little kids I babysit and stuff so if thye run around with them on, I don't want them snapping and opening.

Suggestions?

for my teaching methods class, i had to make a webquest. i did mine on "what crafts, hobbies, and sports your family played in 5th grade". i had wanted to do just crafts, but i know not everyone is a crafty person.

so, what kinds of crafts did YOU do in fifth grade?

i did a lot of bead work back then. and needlepoint.

Hi. I'm new here, and this is my first post.

Since I went to the trouble of taking these pictures for a completely different purpose, I thought I'd post them as a tutorial for anyone wanting to learn the joys of wet hand felting. It is a recent addiction of mine and it's super fun.

Every bit of this skirt is thrifted, except the thread. The material came from a pillowcase that I chopped up, and the zipper and lace were just random finds that I had stockpiled. The lace bow isn't really crooked, it just looks that way in the picture. I basically made this skirt twice, since I didn't like how much the bottom poofed out the first time, and the waist didn't fit right, so I took it apart and re-did it. That's what happens when you don't use a pattern, whoops. I like how it turned out, though.

I had extra fabric (it was for an extra large pillowcase, I think), so I made a matching purse/wristlet. The outside is a thrifted sweater that I felted, and I had the zipper and button lying around from other craft projects. This is the first purse I've made, so I didn't do the world's best job on the zipper. Any tips for putting a zipper in a purse?
