my first attempt at crocheting a shawl.

the attempt to photo be here. )

it was so so hot this past week & because i didn't want to even move, i decided to finally tackle some projects i meant to do and which could be done while sitting in front of a fan. heh. i made it from a pattern in an old woman's day granny square magazine from 1976 (the year i was born!) that i got a thriftshop. i was just using some leftover yarn that my aunt gave me & the pattern actually called for 4 more of those circle motifs and three more of the squares, but at the gauge i ended up using, that would have been humongous(!!), so i just stopped there. i ended up using exactly the amount of extra yarn that i had. phew!!

there's another faaaabulous pattern in that magazine that i'm definitely going to have to try. yay for old patterns!

I need to know where to buy 2 items that have no writing or a veeeeery small logo (or non would be nice) without going online. I need the items by Saturday.
~messenger bag
~t-shirt.

My friend said Wal-mart but I just can't think of them selling plain black T's...

Suggestions, PLEASE? And I'm SO sorry if this doesn't go here but I've seen other "where can I buy..." on here and I checked the memories...

I want to make some 4th of july decorations for my apartment (I know I'm a little late on this considering its in less than 2 weeks...). Specifically vintage looking ones. The trouble is, the acrylic paints I have are too bright red white and blue.... I want more of that darker red and blue, and that yellow-ish white.

Does anyone know of any brands that have colors like that or the colors names? Or at least what colors to mix to get that darker color or how to make it look that way?

I was using Krylon Triple Thick for the longest time, to seal my painted furniture items. Lately I haven't been happy with the results after spraying, though. Instead of a nice clear glossy finish I was getting cloudy, hazy results. Sometimes there would be a dusty residue left behind after spraying, too. The finish was uneven and no matter how many times I sprayed over it, it wouldn't come out evenly. So I started using a different (and much more expensive) spray that I found at the craft store -- DecoArt Triple Thick. I love the way it goes on and how smooth the finish is when I'm done, but this stuff doesn't go very far at all. It's half the size of the Krylon stuff and twice as expensive. I've heard that using the Krylon stuff in humid weather might cause the problems I was having. Anyway, I'm looking for feedback about either of these sprays, or other sprays that you all use, if you use them faithfully. Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone used the "quilt fabrics" at Joann's or Handcock's fabric stores to make shirts or skirts out of? The fabrics on the back wall rolled up n the boards. I know they put a bunch of sizing on the fabrics so they feel stiff, but I was wondering if anyone has used them and how they have softened up....if it would be worth the effort of making a shirt out of it or would it still be too stiff/uncomfortable......

so I want to have the one camp progrmas make their own knittingf needles. I was thinking having them whittle wooden dowels, nail buttons to the bottom, and then varnish the wood. Anyone see a problem with this process?

hey everyone!
i got a question for you.
i'm thinking about getting a button maker,
but i want it to be of good quality and all that.
i was browsing Ebay and found some, but I don't know if they are all that great.
has anyone bought a button maker that they like?
this the page that i'm looking at.
the badge-a-minit sounds pretty decent, but they do tell you that will need additional parts...what does that imply?
the amazing badge maker for the kids sounds nice, but will i be able to find refills?
also, do you guys have good luck finding refills and things of that sort on ebay too?

Hello. You crafty peoples are amazing at making great crafts! but for idiots like me, there are always mess ups. So i shall provide you with my guide of things to avoid doing.
1) coloring things with permanent marker
-not only will you get a horrible headache, it rubs off sometimes...and your mom gets horribly horribly mad
2) do not confuse fabric paint for glue
-because its fabric paint, it stains fabric
3) spray painting in your room is not a good idea
-you will get a headache, a bad one
-you might get all twitchy and such
-you wont be able to sleep in your room that night
-it will stain the floor
(and to get the paint off your floor, you can use an old toothbrush and strait lemon pledge. wich will also give you a headache....but its better than being grounded for black stains on your floor.)
4)Bleach in general
-it bleaches most things. Something i didnt realize.
5)Nail glue for anything other than glueing nails
-this one time...i got my fingers stuck together. And it actually hurt pretty bad.

So there is my guide for idiotic things not too do. I try to be crafty...but yet.......
im still an idiot

i thought i posted this, but apparently not. i made this draw-string purse for my boyfriend's sister as a graduation gift - i'm giving it to her tomorrow. i also made a matching card.

made from:
$2 fabric from walmart (with lots of extra to spare)
the string from a free seventeenmag plastic bag i got around their prom visits to malls (went with a friend)
and my trusty sewing machine that i fumble with

it's big enough to fit a gamecube game container thing in there. i made it that size since we bought her a game, but then she wanted to play it already so she's got the game already lol.

for those that love their alcohol in any way, shape or form (beer, coolers, wine, shots), this bud's for you! these earrings are freaking alcohol molecules and dangle from sterling silver earrings. i'd like to think this is original and appreciate respect. *pleasant smile* really, i'm just addicted to getting lj comments filling up my inbox.

i had this 1920s jacket-type shirt (like, it was a lightweight tunic-style shirt that buttoned up the right side like a peacoat) made of really neat textured satin that i've never seen anything else made of. since i'm cleaning out my closet for my upcoming move, i decided to experiment with it a little. i was in a girly mood with a lot of leftover material, and this:

was the result. you can't really see the white tulle peeking out from beneath the hem, which is unfortunate because it's pretty darling. i like it because it's kinda girly but a little bit edgy at the same time. of course since it has lace and tulle i'm automatically in love. and haha, for those of you who are like OH LACE AND TULLE HOW ORIGINAL NOT... go make a conor stencil or something. <3

your shadow weighs a ton )

what do you guys think? xposted a little, hope nobody minds.

i decided to be random and do something to my vanity to make it look better. i started with white spray paint, then painted the shelves pink, mod podged magazine pictures to the top shelf. put thick polka dot ribbon along the mirror side with hot glue (not the best idea, the hot glue shows through the ribbon), put wired beads on the sides, hot glued lace to the top..and

ta da... before and after )

hi everyone i'm new but i have been looking at all the wonderful things you guys have been making and i'm so impressed and inspired!

This is my first bag (that i made without my mum having to hold my hand.. im sewing handicapped.. heh). It was obviously inspired by some of your wonderful bags. It's reversable and I don't know what kind of fabric it is but the solid pink looks like suede almost. anyway, thanks for the inspiration and enjoy!
