I am going to paint with acrylics on a sign that has been basecoated with an exterior paint. How should I weatherproof the decorative acrylic stuff? I thought I'd polyurethane it but I thought I should ask before I risk spoiling something. Thanks in advance for your input...

I saw some chenille yarn on clearance at the craft store and, of course, I had to buy it. Unlike with the ten other skeins of yarn I have and don't know what to do with, I used the chenille and knit myself a hat.

I used both colors at the same time, so it's nice and thick. I didn't follow a pattern because I don't know how to read knitting patterns. In fact, I only know how to do the basic knit stitch, so it's probably not as "fancy" as it could be.

Originally, it was just the cap part, but I didn't make it long enough and decided to add the ear flaps.

Figuring out how many stitches to cast on was the hardest part )

How would one go about making rounded corners on their book pages, and making all the pages look uniform and perfect? I'm wondering if I would have to hand-trim them all or if there is paper that is already pre-cut (or if I can get it done somewhere cheeeeap).

Thanks!

& p.s. -- One other question: What paper-selling sites do you recommend? I'm looking for some thick durable paper.. maybe like cardstock, but more flexible... and I'm also looking for not-too-glossy magazine-style pages to print on. Thanks a bunch of grapes! :)

I want to make a little drawstring bag kind of like this one for my boyfriend. I was wondering if there was any way to make it reversible. Thanks in advance.

I printed out the design and then used a glue stick to glue it to a coke box and then used a pocket knife to cut out most of the black. The teeth I cut out the white part instead, though. I would recommend an exacto knife or something cause my pocket knife wasnt sharp and made my finger hurt with all the pressing.

Hope this is helpful!

So... in my appartment, we've got two bedrooms, one of which we use for a computer room. This room has no door, and branches off a hallway which has the bathroom on it. (Hard to explain) When we moved in there was a horrid plastic folding door in the doorway leading to this hallway (which provided a door to the computer room, but also blocked off the bathroom.)

So I got a tension rod to put up in the hallway past the bathroom, but still providing privacy to the computer room. I just don't know what to hang up. I don't want absolute complete privacy - just you know, something to throw across the door, and a little decoration. The thing is - we've got a dog, so I also don't want anything she can chew (still a puppy, you know.) I've made curtains from sheets before (dyed them orange for my room.) I was thinking maybe trying my hand at silkscreening, but don't know what kind of images to use.

Or anything else you guys can come up with? No cd-strands or dried fruit-strands or anything. My parents, when they had to do this during construction just went and got a shower curtain!

I got another totebag from hobby lobby and dyed it again, but this time left out the washing machine part, and it looks ok. I silkscreened my picture on there. I also printed it on a hoodie. It came out ok. I also made my boyfriend a shirt and now I'm supposed to make one of his friends one too since he was also a big fan of John Zorn and Naked City.

Help! My hubby and I are moving in 5 weeks (the first of October) and I want to send out moving annoucements. I searched high and low for printed ones that I could order and they were all either too pricey or not something I liked.

I have an idea, however.... I am thinking about taking a fall leaf and tying on a note with some twine with the printed info from my computer and mailing those out... I like the idea because it'll be October and it's fall themed (and I have plenty of envelopes leftover from my wedding invitations that I can use).

What do you think of this idea? Would it cost extra postage to do this?

Does anyone know what kind of stuff your supposed to put on shoes once you've painted them so the paint won't come off? Is it okay to use acrylic paint when painting over shoes?

Does anyone know where I can buy online any plastic or rubber stencils of the alphabet in different fonts and the shop preferably shops international.
[identity profile] laurenrambles.livejournal.com
ok... i really hate to do this, but i need help with my stencil. ive only done pretty simple ones in the past, and im not sure quite how to go about this project. i originally intended it to be one color, so id only need to make one stencil... but now i am not sure, it might not work like that. it probably doesnt help that the picture my friend and i want to use is pretty detailed. anyway, the picture is here. i dont need the text, just the face part. if some fantastic experienced stenciler out there wants to try to help me out, or just try to point me in the right direction, i would really appreciate it.

I called in sick today. I have spent most of my time sitting around feeling ill in my tummy, my nose running, my sinuses aching, my throat and uvula swollen and very ouchie, sneezing, and sweating. God, don't you just wish you were me? When not passed out, I have been keeping myself busy online.

Anyway, before I go face plant on the bed, I thought I would post some recent craftiness.

I know that they make iron on transfers specifically for dark paper but I don't own any of that and do not currently have money for any. Would a transfer for light paper work on a black t-shirt? Has anyone tried it?

I recently made this Bettie Page snowglobe and was asked how to make it. It's my first time ever attemting to make a tutorial, so I hope it works for you all.

Does anyone have a clever way of organizing and storing eleventy-billion sewing patterns? I still use most of them on a frequent basis. I was thinking something along the lines of a Steralite container, or some clear thing with handles so that I can hide them under the bed but get to them easily. I'm moving soon into a smallish one bedroom apartment and need any space saving ideas.
[identity profile] 3tears-for-you.livejournal.com
So I was looking around my room deciding what my next project would be and I spotted this. ) Then I decided that I'd cut up my old film negatives and pin them on with sewing pins. I figured that since it is made of a wicker-ish material I could just weave the pins in, however, the material is not strong enough, and it just tore the stuff off; hich you can see in the close up on the bottom left corner.
Does anyone know how I could attach these??

Alright, here's the trial for my moving announcement. I tried my original idea, and it looked okay, but I couldn't get the twine to stay around the leaf and didn't want to hot-glue it down because then it'd look bad, so I just hot glued the message onto the leaf itself.

I didn't have enough leaves to do them all right now, and its really nothing that needs to be done right this minute, so I'm going to gradually work on them up until we get ready to move so I can send them out that weekend. After putting these together, I doubt I'll have any problems with mailing them since they're pretty thin and shouldn't be too bulky. If nothing else I'm going to flatten the leaves under some books so they aren't as puffy.

Thank you to everyone who posted in my previous post about this! You were all very helpful! <3

hi, i just joined this community and am going to silkscreen some tee shirts using the awesome embroidery hoop tutorial.

anyway, i was wondering when one would choose to silkscreen and when one would stencil. is silkscreen for finer detail? which one is better for using multiple colours? is it just personal preference?

thanks for your help.

Has anyone ever done anything with avacodo pits?

Today was a crafty day for me, I attemped to decorate my table, with problems as seen in my other post. I went to the store and dropped a ton of money on stenciling supplies, but I'm overly excited to get started; which I will do as soon as I finish this post.

I was wondering if any of you knew of a ink, or something that i could draw on my skin with that will stay for some time? I’ve used Permanente marker, but it washed off too quickly. Sorry for teh text only post.

okay well...im really bored. thats where most of my crafty endevours stem from anyways.

i was sitting around my room, and found this old plaster cast of my hand from 6 years ago, sadly my hand is still the same size....
but over the years, the fingers on the hand had broken off except for the thumb and pointer, giving the hand a cool directional look, hehe.
heres a picture and what i did... )

not so crafty, just more junkyart-esque.

but now i really want to do some more plaster casts of my hands, feet...boyfriends hands and feet, theyd make really cool wall decorations, or even hooks for fairly light things.

Hey! I don't think I've EVER posted pictures to this community before.
Well, if I have, they probably sucked.
but Yeah. anyways. My birthday was Sunday, and I got a decent Digicam finally. I love it.
I took photos of a mural my boyfriend and I collaborated on.
I figured you guys would like it, or find some interest in it, or let me know if it sucks!
Anyways, the medium is acrylic. A lot of the colors are blacklight reactive.
I love painting with UV reactive paint. <3
anwho... big photos ahead!
onwards! )

Oh, and I guess I should explain how this came about.
My boyfriend and his roomate live in an apartment that was once a house.
His bedroom has two doors, but one doesn't have an actual door.
so when they moved in, they nailed plywood into the frame.
I thought it was boring. so they let me paint it! YAY!
I love attacking others' furnishings and such :D

That's all, let me know what you guys think!

My camera washed out the colors a bit. They're more orange than yellow. These are more cards (an endless amount it seems) for the Make A Difference silent auction.

I outlined the spiderwebs and glittered them, the tags are garage sale tags i stamped, inked, then embossed with UTEE, tied on with some fun purple fibers.

Enjoy, thanks.

i know this has been talked about before, i looked through the memories :P but i was wondering if anyone had ever tried this with koolaid...i like the way the colors come out on the wool color chart, i cant find any rit near me in the really good colors (we just have like denim blue, scarlet red, yellow at walmart) so i was wondering if i could use this as a recipe to dye a tshirt? do you think the vinegar would lock in the color, i'm only asking because the vinegar hasnt really been talked about, so i'm thinking maybe it's like..easter eggs? ;p i have no idea :/ sorry for my babbling, on to the recipe.

tra-la-la la la! :) )
