For the purse I used a vintage 70's cafe curtain complete with fringe. For the DVD case I used white acrylic paint and a black Sharpie marker. I did it so we could tell the DVD case from the CD case.( Look what I can do )

birthday card deck
Feb. 7th, 2005 11:13 am![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
my first post yay
Well, my sister's birthday is on Wednesday, so I decided to make something to send her. I just kind of found out about ATCs (Artist Trading Cards), which are little cards artists design to trade with other artists. ANYWAY, you can use playing cards as the base of ATCs, so I just bought some...and I decided to also use the cards for my sister's birthday majig.

crafti-ness and fund-raising
Feb. 7th, 2005 01:23 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Hi, fabulous crafty people!
I'm a youth minister who's looking for some new ideas. My kids are doing a lot of fund-raisers, for a large trip and for Relay For Life. They don't want to do candy, magazines, wrapping paper... basically, anything that's bulk. They sell a lot of mass-produced junk for their schools, scouts, clubs, and sports. They want to show off their faith and individuality. Any ideas on new and different fund raisers that we can make at a reasonable cost and have it be something someone besides a grandma could love? Thank you in advance!!!

First post!
This is a quilt I've been working on for the past few weeks, that I finished last night. All the fabrics are batiks except for the black border, and the colors in the pictures really aren't correct. I machine quilted it last night, because there's no way that I have the patience to hand quilt.
( Pictures behind cut because they're huge! )

Just a quick question...
I was wondering if I could just use acrylic perminate paints on shirts instead of any special inks. Anyone know?

A beaded Angel/Harpy Dollie
Feb. 7th, 2005 03:30 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
This one is a major departure from my usual style of beaded dollies......
Pictures are horrible as I just snapped a few quick shots righ after I finished her up .....
I used cotton quilting fabric to make her body out of, handstitched each piece, and even gave her a full wire skeleton. However, with all the bending I had to do to be able to bead her legs, the hip joints snapped just as I had finished beading the second leg. *grumbles* so I had to sew her legs into position instead of having them posable..... IF I do another one, I'll change up the skeleton design a bit.....
Her lower legs, torso, neck and head are all beaded. Her thighs are wrapped in eyelash yarn (needed something moveable when I thought I was going to be able to pose her). Her hair is black chenile yarn. And her wings are one layer of irridescent black chicken feather trim and one layer of white and brown speckled feather trim. Her face is black polymer clay that I added mica powders to before I baked it.

paper made from Drier lint?
Feb. 7th, 2005 04:13 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Hey Ladies!
When i was little, I remember my grandmother making paper out of drier lint. I've been sewing up some amazingly cool fabric lately that I've been laundering pre-sewing and getting some vibrant dryer lint.
Does anyone know how to make said paper? Seen a tutorial online?
I can't ask Gramma.. she's been dead for 15 years.
Thanks!

crochet necklace...
Feb. 7th, 2005 04:25 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Hi, I think someone posted here about making a crocheted necklace a couple days or so ago...
I found this . And they have a pattern for something very similar that I thought you might be interested in - vine lasso necklace pattern. I got it from my snb group, as there's a couple ladies who crochet, and some who knit and crochet.
Hope this helps. :)

when making the cross stitch hoop screen for screen painting, is there a glue I can use that won't wash out of the screen? Also, after I use it once I can wash the paint out and reuse it, right? I have a 60 shirt commission that I need to get done and want to try this method.

Hey.. for anyone who crochets.. please tell me if you know what I'm doing wrong.
Every time I crochet a scarf it has a curve to it. I don't think I'm pulling the yarn too tight because I'm extremely careful. This is the 3rd time it's happened... anyone know what's going on???

hey everyone! i am making my boyfriend a box to put some of our things in (like movie ticket stubs, etc.). i just bought a plain box with a sliding top from michael's and am using my wood burner. on the top i wrote "and we will never be farther than a short breath and a goosebumped shiver away" (from kurthalsey.com). i also darkened the two edges around the top and burned a little design into those two sides. so now i have two blank sides and i need suggestions of what to put on them! i dont really want to do any more text because it is pretty hard to do and takes FOREVER. here are some pictures:

Cascade 220 Yarn
Feb. 7th, 2005 06:17 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Hi! :)
I am looking at my SnB Nation book, and there is a cute legwarmer pattern I'd like to knit up (the Roller Girl Legwarmers). It says to use Cascade 220 yarn, and I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was worsted weight, sport weight, etc.. since I'm thinking of substituting yarn (since I kind of want to make these for an event I have to go this coming weekend).
Thanks a bunch! :)

joke time!
Feb. 7th, 2005 06:35 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
i just recently heard this while working at the fabric store, and i knew that it was perfect for this community.
theres a very special stitch, that everyone learns eventually, no matter if you're a beginner or advanced crafter.
creative people of all sorts know this stitch very well, from knitters and crocheters to needlepointers and sewers.
actually, it's one of the very first stitches you learn.
can anyone guess what it is?
well, it's called the frog stitch.
( why is it called the frog stitch? )
unfortunately, this joke only works with people who sew and knit and stuff. so i could only tell it to my mom and sisters and youse guys.

Does anybody know of a cheap, easy way to dye feathers? White feathers are easy to come by, but my roomate's art project is calling for large quantities of yellow feathers.

Finished "First Aid Kit"

You may remember my post from last month about the Valentine's "first aid kit" I was planning to make my boyfriend. Well, I'm finished and have an abundance of photos that span the project from beginning to end -- they are placed in appropriate categories with my notes and a materials list (with the prices of each material, if applicable).
