mircalla is terribly grim. she is morose and moody and rarely speaks. she never looks on the bright side of things and thoroughly enjoys pointing out the dark side anytime someone gets a little too happy for her liking. mircalla swears she once had a sister but lost her. if you dare to express your condolences she snaps and says she isn't dead, she's misplaced - and then doesn't speak again for hours. the only time mircalla appears remotely happy is when she is gazing on her collection of taxidermy animals. no one dares to ask where she gets them...

(sculpey + paint + wire + tulle + hair = the usual. her bodice is a passage from j. sheridan le fanu's carmilla printed and seriously abused.)

Has anyone made one?

Can you use the fabric for other things as well??

I was thinking of making some toddler clothes with matching fabric. I wasn't sure if anyone else had attempted this? I saw a bunch of sari fabric on ebay and I think it's fairly cheap (although I am VERY new to the concept of creating clothes and using a sewing machine).

thanks for helping a newbie!

I just finished up this cute little girl & snapped a quick pic to see if anyone had any advice for the yarn... She has on a patchwork dress & thick yarn to look like dreadlocks.
Dreadlock Teddy Bear )

I wanted to finish the ends of the yarn by burning them, so they would not come untwisted, and it would make it easier to add beads. But, this yarn turns brown when I burn it ~ so I was wondering if anyone had another idea, or do you think I should just leave it natural & hope for the best?

And for some other goodies...Clay covered tins )

Beware... large picture post behind the cut....
I went and found my most recent artworky type of things... I made two painting types of old movie stars, and painted three little ceramic figurines.

(Pictures.. LARGE AMOUNT... beware slow loaders) )

Thats it... What do you think? :)

i was feeling particularly crafty and i needed a new purse due to the popcorn butter incident at the movie theatre (fav purse ... ruined!! it was a tragedy!) ... so i headed to wal-mart, grabbed some 1.97 fabric, fusible interfacing, lining, zippers, cord, and grommets ... and here is the result (i am so very proud):

Hello all! I haven't posted in a while, so I've decided to come back now that I have a little extra time on my hands:)

I'm sorry if this picture/saying offends anyone, but I want to make something similar to this for an upcoming party:

a closer look )
I'm not really in the mood to spend 30-something dollars on something that I know will shrink a full size, and I know I could make this cheaper (minus the crown, as cute as it is.) So my question is: does anyone know of any good, well-priced iron-on letter brands/products? I looked through the memories, and found a lot about transfer paper for pictures that are printed with computers printers. Is this really the easier and cheaper route?

And I also wanted to let everyone know that the stuff here is AMAZING. You're all extremely talented ladies.

So tonight I'm going to try to make some pouches and I've got a few cute materials, but I wanted to cut out some shapes from felt to sew on, just to add more interest. Also, I was thinking about putting felt between the lining and the outer fabric so they'd be stiffer.
Will the felt get all weird if you try to wash them, or will it fall apart, etc?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Someone posted here a day or so ago, asking what to do with a bunch of paper bags, and someone commented and gave a link to craftster.org where someone made a cd holder out of them.[I don't remember the link or anything] So I decided to try it today and I am happy with the result. It's just a small one but I think it's cool.

Thanks for looking. :)

Here's a mother's day idea if you need one.

I made this for my mom after she picked out the beads and straight out told me she wanted one like the ones I had made for myself. You can see one of mine here. I saw these on the show Jewelry Making on DIY network. All you need are some beads including one to hang as a pendant in the center, 4-5 lengths of fiber(short necklaces take about 3 yards, long ones take 4), a pair of those cone shaped jewelry findings used at the ends of multi-strand necklaces, and a clasp.
First you slip the pendant to the center of one of the strands. Tie a knot to secure it. Then you just go up one side tying all the fibers into a knot and then stringing a bead on one fiber. Repeat using your own pattern and variation. If the necklace is long enough to slip over your head, you can just tie the 2 ends together and let the fibers hang down the back.

Hey guys,
I've been scouring the net trying to find something to do with these bottle caps...not bottle caps like on beers and sodas, but the kind that come on Snapple bottles (only they aren't from Snapple. I hate Snapple.). i don't want to make a crappy photo frame or ornaments, which is all I can find to do with them. Maybe use some Fimo and make windchimes? HELP! I have about 50 of these things and I hate to throw them away...

I've been doing some knitting and crocheting, but I'll looking to expand my horizon and start sewing. Problem: no machine. Some lady at Joann's told me that Viking is the best..but I'm not sure. What would you recommend? I'd like to buy one this weekend...so much fabric, no machine.

Ah yes, it may be important to know what I want to do with it.

Mainly sew clothing, using vinyl occasionally, and I'd like to be able to do a bit of quilting. Embroidery abilities would be cool, but not necessary.

Ideas? What's your favorite machine? Why?

Thanks so much!!

I am addicted to making these things. I don't even know why I make them. They're not for me. They're not necessarily gifts. I just make them. They don't require much fabric, so I pretty much just use all my scraps to make them.

This one was for my sister: COINPURSE! )

I'll probably make like, 23989203423 more tonight.

So, I had a 60 cent thrift store Star Trek shirt. It reminded me of something Screech Powers would wear. What was once baggie and rediculous, has now been transformed: It's really exciting. )

My question is: how do I do my sleeves up right? Because right now, they're not puffy enough, and they're awkward as hell.

I made some jewelry this week! I made a necklace/earring set for a friend, and a choker for myself that spotlights on of [livejournal.com profile] e29design 's mixed media collage charms!!! Here is a shot of the necklace set:

He's such a little charmer....

Please meet BrewsterTodd.

He was hard to photograph because he's all metallic blue and his little vest, tie, and cumberbun are black with metallic blue spiderwebs. ;D He's pretty big too....6" sitting up, and almost 9" with his legs!

A thrift store by me sells huge bags of ties (about 20 per bag) for only $4. They were just asking to be made into a skirt:

I've been taking a sculpture class and although this piece isn't exactly complete, I wanted to ask for opinions on how I should finish it. It is, after all, my final piece. All suggestions welcome!!!

I remember someone asking about cowrie shells because they wanted to make a cowrie shell necklace. The person was concerned about the animal having to die to leave the shell but it was a long time ago and I can't find the original post. This post came to mind when I visited a bead shop (the best one I've ever seen by the way) and found molded beads made to look like cowrie shells. I couldn't resist picking up a few of them and if I can track down the person who posted about this I'd love to send the beads. So if it was you or you remember who the person who posted was please comment.

I knew I wasn't going to do any homework anyway, so, instead of procrastinating, I kept busy knitting (pictures in a week or so) and making PAPER!! )
