my two best friends' birthdays were recently, so i made them some lovely ring bags like mine. it gets so much easier as you make more and more.

the pictures on the left are the "intended outside" - it has her name on it in sequins. the right side is the other side, because it is reversible.

when i went to joann's to get the fabric, the lady at the cutting counter offered to pay me to make her one when she saw mine (which i posted before, but here it is again...)

Hi!

Does anyone know what to do with 'too short' tops? I have quite a handful of them.. lying around and it's making me sick. =( When I bought them, the length was alright.. until they were washed a couple of times and the material shrink like nobody's business! Now, they are short.. until my tummy can be seen. =( sighz, i'm aware that laces can be added (at the bottom) to give a new look.. but is there any other ideas that anybody would like to share?

What kind of material are board shorts made of? My sister has a pair but there's no tag with the material info on it. I've looked on Google and I've checked a few surf websites and surf store sites, but I can't find anything. We're going to the fabric store today and I would really love to get the right material. Could someone check their shorts and tell me? Please?

God I sound desperate.

Thanks (I promise to post pics once I've got my shorts made!)

A couple of months ago, I slid while driving in the rain and ended up doing a couple of thousand dollars of damage to my mom's car. Yeah, not a good thing to do at all. :-\ The first series of repairs has been done [to get it to the point in which it can be driven], but it's still dented until I put aside enough money to fix that.

Luckily, my mom isn't upset about it -- and she has a good sense of humor && an appreciation for creativity.

I want to make a large band-aid to cover the dent with until it's back to it's former state.

I'm guessing vinyl (marine-grade to be weatherproof?) would be the best material to make it out of, with a band-aid design painted onto it to look like

Now to pick the brains of the crafty folk on LJ!

What sort of paint would adhere best to the vinyl? I'm guessing acrylic with a waterproof spray atop of it.

Also, any ideas as to how it should be attatched? The way the dent is, I don't think it's something that could be tied onto the car, but rather have to be attatched using some sort of adhesive -- perferably one that won't rip off the paint when being removed.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Sooooo....I've been planning my Father's Day project for quite awhile now! He lives out of state, so I'll be sending it tomorrow. (Hopefully it'll get there by Saturday!) This was all brought on because my dad gave me an iPod mini for Christmas/birthday. I kept the box, hoping to do something with it (besides it looked cool!).

And now... on the Father's Day!

Warning! Picture heavy! -but fun! )

Happy Father's Day!

I did some sewing over the weekend - and created some new bags and belts using vintage kimono fabric. I drafted the pattern for the bag myself - and the D-ring belts were easy to figure out how to make (and a fantastic way to use up thin pieces of fabric!)

Yo kids I need your taste here.

The background: I have my cousin's bridal shower in less than two weeks. She's a middle school teacher, likes jewelry and purple. I have NO money to buy her anything (I'm already losing an arm and a leg over the bridesmaid's dress). I'm primarily a knitter but I've already recently given her a knitted gift, and don't even really have time to think of another. So I jumped in and randomly made this necklace. I've never made a piece of jewelry before. The back part is a bit wonky so I need to figure out how to make the curve even. It looks like the wire is really long on my neck, but that's because I have a chicken neck. She is much larger than I am and needs a lot more room at the neck, and the memory wire should be able to be adjusted to fit.

So please, give me your brutally honest opinion: Is this nice enough to give as a bridal shower gift?

Sorry if the pictures are dark, I had to hurry up and put them on my webspace before work.

Oh yeah, and here are the two Branching Out scarves from Knitty I did on the plane to the West Coast. The one that looks black is actually a pretty green-aqua, both made with random stash yarn that I have no idea what they are, except they're a little fuzzy.

I was at the music store with my boyfriend yesterday helping him pick out a new guitar strap. We were totally fascinated by the straps that are made out of seatbelts. However, they're like, 60 bucks and seeing as how we're both unemployed this just isn't possible. Anyone ever tried making either a guitar strap or belt out of a seatbelt before or know how difficult it would be?

i'm kinda new to sewing, i have ideas i just don't know how to do all of them. i found my brother's old thermal shirt from when he was in 4th grade [he graduated this year] and i guess it'll kinda be like having a part of him when he's off to college. i wanna cut the thermal shirt down the middle & make it a jacket, put big green buttons on it, and sew on three stars to the bottom- a black one, a bright blue one, and a bright pink one. but i'm worried about how big to make the button holes and to cut it down the middle or a little to the side. if you have any suggestions or pointers PLEASE help :)

Hey everyone!

Last time, I posted a necklace that I'd made based on a sketch I'd drawn. Today's post is a different kind of inspiration - a $315.00 necklace I saw in a magazine!

The inspiration! )

What do you guys think? As always, I appreciate all comments:)

hey guys! I tried to stencil for the first time this afternoon... IT took forever to cut out though.. and I learned through the top few lines, dont use a q-tip..just use a foam brush. Makes life so much easier!

hope you like it....

I just bought my mom this mixer for her wedding. I'd like to make her a cover for it out of a grape inspired fabric which will match her kitchen theme. I've been searching for a template or pattern I could use but I haven't been able to locate one. Does anyone know where I can find one or have one of their own? Also, is there a treatment I can do to the fabric for easy clean up. Say there's a spill and something gets on it...you can just wipe it off rather than having to scrub it? I know Scotch Guard might do the trick but any other ideas are welcome! Thanks!

Hi everybody,
my boyfriends birthday is next tuesday and yesterday I started to make a gift for him.
He is really interested in pen and paper games so i decided to make something useful for him in game playing.
I already made a bag for his dices, it looks neat, i will post some pics when im done with everything.
BUT the problem is, i started to make him a folder for all those paper sheets he's got for playing the game, but i'm out of imagination what to add to the folder, cause actually it looks a little boring to me.
The name of the pen and paper game is "Das Schwarze Auge" (The Black Eye) it's similar to dungeons and Dragons i think.

Do you have any hints what i may add to give a little spice to the folder??
I thought about getting some really nice looking paper and cover the whole thing with it, but im not sure if it will last very long on the folder.

Thats what i actually came up with

so, for my concepts final this year we were to take a regular cigar/craft box and decorate it with a consistent theme.

most people did themes like "music", "summer", etc but i couldn't think of any theme along those lines that wouldn't seem ridiculous to make.

so, instead, i picked the neutral milk hotel song holland 1945 )

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

i used a cigar box, acrylic paint, random beads/objects from my house, and my own drawings.

i think it turned out pretty well... )

I need a wee bit of help. >.< I have a purse that colapses upon itself when worn. I knitted it myself with very hairy yarn. It is simply one long rectangle folded in thirds. Two of the thirds are sewn together and the third is an opening flap for the bag. There are also straps, but they don't matter.
The rest of my question and a picture of something unrelated because I don't want to be text only )

My spindles are almost complete....except one thing. I want cup hooks on them, silver/chrome cup hooks.

And I have looked at every damn hardware store in town to not find them.

If ANYONE knows of some place ANYWHERE in the whole wide world(I'm serious, I'll order overseas for them. It's *that* important to me) where I can find some chrome/silver plated cup hooks I would greatly appreciate it.

It's driving me mad, it really is.

I'm sorry if this was in the memories, and I overlooked it....but I was curious how you guys made sure that the bracelets & necklaces you all make don't come loose where you make knots or whatever.

I am making a bracelet like I normally do with elastic beading cord and I knot it before putting on the clasp and then just knot on the clasp.

Am I worrying too much will that be sufficient?

Also I heard about putting some clear nailpolish on the knot to "seal" it. Is that going to do anything?

So today when I was practising guitar I kept on staring at my guitarcase, and though, fucking hell it's so plain and boring..
so i partied it up a bit :) )
it's not a masterpiece, but it's a change that i needed.

I just made this bracelet for my boyfriends mom this evening. She loves Mahjong. I had seen one in some catalog for around 40 dollars and this cost me possibly 5 dollars to make! Shweet, works for me! It's a gift for no apparent reason. Those are the best.
