After thinking about this for well over a month, I finally got around to trying out my new screen printing kit. I made this to send to a friend who is planting trees up north for 2 months.

Hey fellow knitters. I have a question for the more experienced; for the ones who have knitted sweaters before. I am basically making up a pattern as I go along but it's going to be a 3/4th sleeved boatneck sweater when I'm done. Instead of invisible stitching at the seams, I'm going to do a sort of corset lacing with accented yarn. I've never done anything more complicated than armwarmers before and needed some help on the holes of the sweater. I'm knitting the right arm now, and I have no idea how to end it. Do I just end it as a tube or do I have to do a decreasing stitch? And if I ened to do a decreasing stitch, how do I go about doing it?

Also, do you kniw the front and back of the sweater seperately? I was planning on doing it on circular needles and just knitting a gigantic tube. Which would be easier?
there are photos of my progress under the cut. help!

size 8 needles, cotton yarn )

if you have any really good and active knitting communities you could point me torwards, that'd be great too! happy crafting!

so i get a call from my boss today at work (i work at michles) and she is out of ideas for the kids summer camps..... now here is the catch, it has to be CHEEP... like suplies have to be under $5 per kid... and it has to take about 45min for them to make....

so far i have come up with

flower faries (using spools and stuff)
felt monsters (easy ones using googlie eyes, and pens to draw on faces and stuff)
felt wallets (decorating with some jems and drawing on it)
flower power flip flops (using ribbon and flowers to decorate them)

i was thinking of those flower oragami things, the ones that have been on pins and stuff, but i havent found a tutorla for them, and if we do make them, can they use fat quarters to make them?

so please help me brainstorm and find cool crafts for kids to do! they have to be for kids ages 5-12 and my manager already has the basic crafts down, i just need new funky stuff..

thank you sooooo much!

This is the finished beaded curtian I posted about back here,
http://www.livejournal.com/users/bjerk919/117435.html
I ended up having to use pony beads to bead the fun fur because I couldn't get any others threaded on there.
It looks really cute and I plan to take more picutres of little Miss Linnea when I hang it up on her door.

It's good to be done with this one.

Hi! I don't know if anyone has posted this website before, but I thought it was pretty cool.

http://www.maharam.com/

They have some really fantastic, high-end textiles and some amazing re-issues of classic fabrics from 1913-1960s. You can order free samples, too!

A while back I bought some sheets of shrinky plastic so I could make a few projects with it. I just got around to testing it to see how it would turn out. Here are a few pictures. The drawing I started with was 7inches by just under 4... the finished shrinky isjust under 3 inches by i inch tall. I used an 1/8th inch hole punch and the holes are now the perfect size to use for button holes.

here are the shrinky images )

My friends and I made candles so I thought I would try to make a cupcake candle. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I might make some more in the future. like strawberry, chocolate and etc... It even smells like a cupcake!

These directions are designed to save you the expense of new pillows. Use them as "slip covers" for your throw pillows. I am new to sewing and I dont know what a baby hem is.

Materials needed:

Fabric needed for standard sizes
12" Pillow - Fabric 12" by 28"
14" Pillow - Fabric 14" by 32"
16" Pillow - Fabric 16" by 36"
18" Pillow - Fabric 18" by 40"
thread
The cutting directions do not add a seam allowance so that the finished pillow cover is a little smaller than the form and creates a "plump" pillow instead of any empty space.

Directions

For a 12" pillow mark your fabric 8" in on the longest edges.
For a 14" pillow mark your fabric 9" in on the longest edges.
For a 16" pillow mark your fabric 10" in on your longest edge
For an 18 " pillow mark your fabric 11" in on your longest edge

Fold each end under 1/4" and then turn under 1/4" again, to form a neat baby hem.

Neatly top stitch the hem into place.

Fold your fabric, right sides together at the markings you made on the long edge. There should be a 3 1/2" overlap for the back side of your pillow.

Use 1/2" seams and finish the seam on the raw edges.

Turn so the right side of your fabric is outside and press.

Tips for Pillows

If you are using an odd sized form use the size of the form for your measurements. Don't add a seam allowance to your fabric.

Make these covers in holiday theme fabric and have a collection for all the holidays. This is an inexpensive way to change your throw pillows for every holiday.

I hope you enjoy the project and if you have any problems, please be sure to email me.

Tried.....felting...wool...today
I made a bag
turned out fairly decent.

Had a scary moment.
I ran it through a few cycles of the washing machine, no spinning, and then I stuck it inthe dryer.
I wasn't happy with that, so I stuck it in for some more.

Not bad for a first time felter eh?
Used...Lionbrands Fishermans Wool..dyed with kool-aid. The bag is done in a J hook, hdc's....then stiched together.
The strap is 3 sc chains of then braided together...two of them.

It's not perfect....but I love it.

I'm trying to track down a post from a while back of an expandable purse made of zippers that looked like an accordion. I think the girl who posted it had a Leisha Hailey icon, if that's any help (and *yay* if my memory for obscure details actually does come in useful here)! Anyway, if anyone knows what I'm talking about and can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

And just to keep you all amused, here's a couple of pencil cases/purses I made recently.

heres a pic of how i modified my bf's guitar strap...it was quite boring...well except that it was a seat belt lol...but ya, so i did what i do for amusement...made patches...he likes skate brands, and blink-182, and metallica, and other bands, these have what i've started with:

i officially have no life =) )

wow, the amount of time i spend on that guy =) lol...those took up to 4 hours each...easy ones like mystery took about 45 minutes....but ones like element and the metallica ninja star took a good 4 hours... haha

i've made lots more for other people as well, thats just the modification to his strap lol

and i used a cheaper, easier alternative to Stich-Witchery, or other iron-on stuff hat you hafta sew on...i cover the back in a thin layer of hot glue, and then cut off the extra fabric. so theres glue on every edge, then i ironed em on...cuz the iron re melts the glue. and it sticks better than store bought patches, which you usually hafta sew on as well as iron, or they fall off

XD

1. My digital camera leaves much to be desired, but at least I got batteries for it and can show off the things I've made lately!

Warning: Lots of big pictures so be careful dial up users. )And that leads me to my next point:

2. I'm dying to make a Star Wars purse. I have a broken, Hot Topic bought, 'May the Force be with you' pin that's just begging to be glue gunned onto a nice geeky little bag. The one problem is, I don't have functioning iron on transfers or stencils at my disposal. I'm thinking of just using a nice black fabric and drawing some TIE fighters and other Star Wars ish things on it in silver permanent marker. Do you guys have suggestions for other Star Warsy things that'd be really easy to draw?

Cross posted around a bit.

Tag-mania!

According to this link, the members of a community can 'tag' their entries in a community, as long as the tags are already made up by the moderators.

It might help our mods with the cataloging of our many, many posts.

The drawback is that you can only sort the tags in the "paid version" of the S2 Style System.

Food for thought.

Alright so I need a soap stamp with Jim Morrison's face on it. Ive looked around on the net and found nothing (theres a shock!). I considered making my own but I have *very* poor eyesight from years of squinting at sheet music, so thats out of the question. What I would like to know is, can anyone in this community make such a thing for me? Ofcourse I would pay you and Ill even send you some samples. Thanks girls!

Okay so I have these two dressers that we got at Kmart and I have hated since we bought them. So now that they are on their last leg and we don't want to invest in more furniture for the military to break.
I wanted to paint them so they looked all new and modern, I hope my husband likes it. I have to get a clear sealant for it so it doesn't scratch so easily.

Hello all, I'm a new member and I was rifling through the memories and community info trying to find a pattern for a book purse (preferably a simple one, as I'm one of your typical novices). There were two or three links to patterns or photos of book purses in the memories but the links in the entries no longer work. If you have information/advice/patterns to offer, I'd appreciate it! Thanks.
