Hi ya ghurlies,

Quick question (i checked the FAQ's/memories already) - does anybody have any suggestions or ideas for door stoppers/wegdes? I don't need a 'boing' thingy behind the door to stop it from hitting the wall (sorry for the lack of technical terminology), i need a heavier-than-paper-weight item to keep the door open. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of a bean bag or sand bag (but i don't know how heavy or big it would have to be). Any suggestions?

Also, i was thinking of making a door chime to hang from the door so i'll know when somebody opens the door. (it gets kinda creepy when somebody appears unexpectedly) is there anything better than hanging bells from the top?

Thanks in advance. Will post pictures when done.

Happy crafting in the meantime! ;)

HELP!!

Ladies: I am sitting in my school library working on a project propsal for my manufacturing class. I am proposing a "picture tote". This is a smallish purse (8"x6"x2") and it needs something similar to clear vinyl or clear plastic (think a see through thicker version of seran wrap) to make a "picture frame". I can't find anything online and I have no clue as to what terms I should be googling. I should be here for a while yet. I'll be checking, hopefully someone knows what I am talking about and can help me out here.

Thanks GRRLS!

Ladies, your good juju must rub off on me, after I posted my entry, I found www.clearbags.com and found what I was looking for. I am estatic and I just want to thank you ladies for constantly good vibes- even if nothing is ever said (and to the one poster, thanks for the idea, you were so kind to help me out!)

Sorry to bug y'all. Please return to your normal crafting activities. :)

I have recently acquired a couple bamboo parasols whose paper coverings have seen better days. I have a nice one that I made a removable velvet and lace cover for that works very nicely but this time I'd like to make something a little more water resistant. One I just want to cover with treated fabric. For the other the thought is to wind up with a water durable Edward Gorey design. The main problem is that whatever I use to cover it cannot be too stiff, or the parasol won't open and close, so many paints and traditional decoupage is out. I was wondering if perhaps I could print the design on rice paper and apply some sort of finish. Also, I'm not really interested in spending major $ on silk screening. I have a coat made out of PVC coated linen that seems to be fairly flexible. Any ideas?

i was thinking about sewing my own cloth book using my baby's old onsies.

i am wondering, though, do i need to put anthing in the middle (like it is done with quilts) to make the "pages" sturdier? or can i just sew a bunch of sqares and it will hold that way?

sorry for the text only.

also, i'm new to the sewing machine. is the cloth used to make baby clothes sturdy enough to be altered?

thanks!

Does anyone have a simply tutorial, or could direct me to a tutorial on how to make a zippered, lined, pouch? Like a cosmetics / makeup pouch with a zipper to tuck in a purse, or a change / coin purse? I have some cute Halloween fabrics and anted to make a pouch that has pumpkins on the outside and then more fun material like bats on the inside. Thank you!

check out my second ibis pendant motif!
this time done in silver and blues.
it's smaller than the previous one,
and several details have been tweaked.

a long while back, someone posted a tutorial about turning an old teeshirt into underpants.

well, i couldn't find the tutorial but yesterday am decided to embark on the mission alone. helpless. no guides. just my favorite old pair of underpants for sizing, a pair of scissors, a teeshirt, and a sewing machine.

needless to say, they turned out fabulous. i used a 'ninedays' teeshirt from about five years ago. i'm sure everyone remembers their poppy hit... "this is the story of a girl, who cried a river and drown the whole world..." i am still a big fan of theirs and simply couldn't let the shirt go to waste anymore.

probably not too work-safe... but it could be worse... and i absolutely love her... when she smiles )

if anyone desperately can't understand what i did, i suppose i could whip together a quick tutorial. <3

I was just watching a video at the Knitting Help website to help me figure out binding off in pattern, when I realized that I do my purl stitches backwards! Well, sort of. I know a purl stitch is essentially a knit stitch backwards; that is what my knitting book (Stitch N' Bitch) told me when I was teaching myself how to do it.

I took it very literally it seems, because when I'm throwing the yarn (I knit English method) in a purl stitch, I wrap it clockwise, because you throw the yarn counterclockwise in a knit stitch. Apparently that is the one part of a purl stitch that remains the same; the direction you throw the yarn. I was watching the video thinking something was off, and then I thought "She's doing it wrong!" and then I pull out my book and look it up, and find out that I've been throwing the yarn incorrectly the whole time! (Although I noticed in Stitch N' Bitch it tells you to bind off purlwise in the back leg of the stitch and in the video I was watching she took from the front leg of the stitch every time.)

And yet, my work doesn't appear to suffer for it. As far as I can tell it looks how it is supposed to. I'm wondering if I should re-teach myself to do it correctly, or if it would make a difference at all. Any opinions?

since school started i haven't been getting to craft as much as i'd like to... too much calculus and physics homework than i know what to do with.

this year i had room in my schedule to add intro to art (finally! i've only been waiting since freshmen year to continue... it only took til senior year!) and i had homework - to decorate my sketchbook.

it's nothing terribly exciting, but i love it. i'm on a major major brown/teal kick lately.

yeah. that's it.

i've been knitting before i go to bed, though, and i'm currently working on my first sweater and yet another scarf. pictures of them will follow soon, i hope!

thanks for looking! ♥ jenny

This may be a stretch but I'm going to ask anyways.....

I want to dread my hair horribly bad. I've wanted to for a good 2 years now.

Now I *know* I could do it by myself, but it just seems like doing every part I can't see would be difficult.

Anyone have any tips, suggestions on how to go about dreading my hair? I've looked at the Knotty Boy website and I'm considering buying the kit but without a friend(I know...it's sad...they are all gone to college!) I just can't see it happening on my own.

Where do you get your short zippers for things like change purses? I can't find zippers shorter than 7" in my local Fabricland or Walmart. I've been searching online as well.

Alternatively, if anyone knows a technique on how to shorten existing ones I have, please share. I'd prefer to buy the right sized ones though.

so my new boyfriend, is definatly the cutest boy i've ever met. the best part is he's one of those guys who likes handmade gifts, over store bought presents. which is awesome considering i'm a starving theatre major. anyway, he has a little soft spot for stuffed animals, and i thought i would avoid the cutesy "i love you" type bears and things, so... on friday michael will be the proud owner of a little monster. he's a huge steelers fan, so even though it's hard to see the star says "steelers".

and yes, he is all hand sewn, i have holes in my fingers to prove it.

Does anyone have any links to sewing patterns for stethoscope covers?

I googled this and only came up with one result (http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=458) and was wondering if there were any other patterns out there that I may have missed.

My school is collecting food and supplies for the Katrina victims and while gathering things I came up with the brilliant idea to make quilts. I know there might already be blankets provided and everything, but I thought this might be more special. If I were in that situation I would probably love it.
At the moment I have a $40 budget (Yeah I am using my WHOLE allowance for this month, haha!) and that will get me a few supplies but I really want to get into this, and I could even send some to the Wrap Them In Love Foundation.
SO I am asking YOU GUYS for donations of ANY quilting stuff you have like fabric, thread, batting, etc. Even old clothes made out of nice fabric! And sheets are great.
Also, if anyone knows of any other way I can help please post links. The news really makes me sad. :(

What can I do with a box full of poptabs beside a belt (done one), jewelery (it gives me a rash), or a bag (i'm not that competent)?

Any ideas?

I'm thinking a mobile or door curtain or something...
