Normally, I make monsters, but now it's time for MONSTER STOCKINGS! :D

I made the pattern, and machine sewed/hand stitched it myself. They are made of fleece and super soft monster fur. I'm rather proud of them too. :D I do need to make some batty ones though. ;)

more here! )

I'm totally enjoying all the stocking posts here! :D

Not the most crafty things in the world, but I embroidered my birds' names onto cheap-o stockings for Christmas this year. I already finished all of their present shopping but haven't started on anyone else. Boy, can you tell who gets the most love?

For Spike, Kiwi, Peanut, and Brutus, respectively. I'm thinking I'll string them together with something pretty and festive--not yucky garland--but I haven't figured it out yet.

I posted my new pouches yesterday and while this isn't the most finished way to make them, it is the easiest. I just ask that no one hot link to these photos, I don't want to get nailed with my hosting.

This way to the tutorial )

I've been busy making things.. and baking yarn was part of it.
Okay first I made some beaded candy-cane tree ornaments Here )
Then I've been wanting to get all creative and dye some Wool yarn with Kool Aid.. so I followed a simple procedure to wet it, pour concentrated kool aid color on it and Bake it for a half hour.. then let it cool and well.. Here.. see pics )
`Presto Kool yarn!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I skipped step 2, it was just the addition of color which was obvious in step 3.
This was my first attempt at dying wool yarn, it came out fairly well considering.
I got more Kool Aid and dyed some more :) The second bundle of dyed yarn is drying now, I think I'll crochet it into a throw blanket. And I'm still working on my other projects.. like 4 or 5 hollllydaaze gifts, oh wait make that ten.

my dilemma with the zipper/neatness was solved. interfacing was the trick! thanks for the responses.

my new dilemma is should i reinforce the strap with grograin? is it common to reinforce bag straps? the material the bag is made out of it thick like demin.

any thoughts?

Hi I was digging through the memories, and have a quick question. I'm making a set of Fairy Wings tonight, but wanted to try dying instead of painting the nylon. I'm using panty hose ~ would RIT dye work? or kool-aid? If all else fails I can just paint them as normal, but I wanted to try something new.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to the community. I got linked here via Boingboing to the FSM dildo cover and became intrigued. I'm a traditional crafty sort, my biggest project right now is spinning black and green alpaca for my father-in-law for Christmas (he's allergic to wool = new learning experience for me).

I wanted to throw this out there in case anyone found it helpful it's called Glue-It-to-it and it's run by Michael's Crafts. Just tell it what two materials you are trying to glue together and it suggests what kind of glue to use. You can even tell it to pick something "kid-friendly" which I think means washes off easily.

Give it a shot:

I'll try to post pics of my projects in the future, it'll be nice to share them with people.

Searching!
I am new to the craft show business! I am loving it! However, I really want to vamp up my table display. I sell beaded jewelry and hand made bags.
I've searched the web for craft fair displays but haven't found anything I like.
I am searching for some funky ideas and some colorful boxes, table top racks and such. I am also looking for a bodice for pictures of long necklaces.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for reading!

Opinions, please!

I'm making this Gummi Monster... "thing" as a birthday gift.
It's supposed to be a sort of cover/bag for a bag of gummi bears, because.. well, as you all know, gummi bears make the world go round.

What I still don't know, and that's where you'll step in, is which "side" should the opening be in.
Until I make up my mind on that, I can't sew on/glue the face.
Let me try to explain...

(I apologize for my lack of drawing skills x_x)

See what I mean? (Those blue squiggles are supposed to be the gummi bear bag.)

I'm leaning towards the first option, because if I magically got the bag to stand up, with the 'cover' on, you'd have to pull it up to see the contents instead of just looking in (if the opening was on top) but I'll let you crafty girls get your say on this subject before I do anything. ^^;

I was pondering, for quite a long time actually, could you actually smoke out out a pipe made out of sculpty? Would I need to treat or coat is with something or am I really lucky enough to just mold a pipe and bake it and poof--wham bam instant smaokable pipe!! So. Can anyone answer my query? Thanks in advance guys!

Because found-object craftiness is the absolute best in my book (damn hippies), I was SUPER psyched to find this old skateboard deck! Guess who has a new shelf on the way;)
I'm planning to use some triangular brackets and hollow wall anchors, has anyone tried this before? I'm not sure if I can just set it on the brackets, or if I'll have to screw into the deck itself...

i'm talking about a vinyl record, not the material ;)

i'm trying to do a mixed media collage thingy (my first ever) and it involves using a vinyl record. i couldn't bear to ruin any real records of mine, so i went out and bought some crazy Irish folk records and scottish bagpipe stuff. the thing is, these are super thick! i didn't even realize when i was buying them. they are smaller than a regular LP and larger than a 45. so what would that make them? the huge record store only had oddball stuff in them, so it's not anything i've ever seen before. all the labels say Victor talking machine. and they have that RCA dog. are these 78s? only for phonographs?? a couple are only one-sided. and the grooves are very smoothed out.

i wanted to cut them in 1/2 and glue them to my canvas. but since it's so thick, i'm not even sure what i could use. any suggestions? it's gotta be stronger than a box knife.

oh, do i need your help! i'm in the literary magazine @ my school, & since im editor, my advisor asked me to figure out how to silkscreen all our gear. here's the problem: we have over 200 different shirts, hats, etc. sooo- i need ya'll to help me on:
*kind of paint to use. (we already have equipment, and we're just doing black or white screens)
*advice for doing this many items
*tips on how to do relatively fine lines. is it possible?

thank you so much in advance. this is gonna be one hell of a project, but i'll definitely post results when it's done.

i'm a knitter newbie and i made my first attempt at a harry potter scarf. my problem is that even after ironing, it curls around the sides making it look a lot thinner than it is. i didn't use circular needles like i supposed to and i just did the basic knit/purl stitch (i don't know the proper name. like i said, me = newbie) so i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this? is there some special ironing technique that should come in effect?

thanks in advance.

So tonight I attempted the Pornex cube. So far...not so good. I used Mod Podge to 'seal' it, and I didn't really get the look that I was going for...I'm looking for something more shiney to make it more permanant...would clear nailpolish work on top of it? Any suggestions = LOVE :0)

I was supposed to make some kind of food for my chemistry class tomorrow (no occasion, we just felt like it), and sooo I tried to think of something chemistry-related. Hey periodic table! It ended up being kind of time-consuming, but it happened. Oh, it happened alright.
I didn't do 57-71 & 89-103 becaaaause... yeah NO.
I used this recipe. Gotta love Alton Brown. And the icing is just powdered sugar and a little bit of milk. O if that picture is too big, tell me kindly and I will resize it.

If I don't get extra credit, I will cry. )
