I appologize in advance - a few days ago someone posted (I think) a duct tape tie, but for the life of me I can't find it. Can anyone help? I'm looking for a tutorial to make one - and not the one with tin foil.

Whee, I made some new charms! Mr. Turtle and Mr. Cow. :D Made out of fimo.
I'm not sure about what I'm going to do with the cow just yet.. maybe I'll turn it into a pin like the turtle. ^^ Let me know if you guys have any suggestions :D

PS.
Should I paint turtle's shell with more shades of green? :/

Hello everybody!

I knitted a cell phone cozy, forgot about it, and then last week I lost my iPod case and remembered it again :) And.... it fits perfectly!

I have tried over and over again to learn how to knit and it never seems to work.  I am trying yet again hehe.  I got much larger gauge needles this timeand it seems toreally make things easier.  I can knit for severalrows just fine adn then I can also purl for severalrows at a time (which I knwo is essentially the same thing).
So now I just want to make a basic ribbed scarf: ya know knit 2 purl 2 etc.  The problem is I can't for the life of me figure out what I am supposed to do with the yarn when I swutch from purl to knit.  I seem to either manage to wrap it around the needle in such a way that it looks like I have an extra stitch, or I end up tying up what I have already knitted.  I looked thorugh the memories and went to a bunch ofthe knitting sites that are suggested.  There is a lot of good info on them, but nothing showing the transition between purling and knitting.  I feel like I am thinking this to death. I'm sure the answer is really obvious, but I can't for the life of me figure it out...
Also, how do you all cast on for a ribbed scarf?  I just knitted on, but that seems to hinder the stretch of the rib knit so I'm wondering if there is a better way, or if it will work itself out once I have knitted more (assuming I can figure out how).

I found these pendants on ebay, in a bunch of colors.
I made a couple of them into earrings.

Years ago my mom made these beautiful applique and embroidered stockings for my sister and I. Now that we're grown and on our own and have other people in our lives, any other stocking next to the mom-originals looks really low-quality. This weekend I decided to make my boyfriend his very own stocking. While it's not up to the level of my mom's work, it looks great hanging beside my stocking over the fireplace!

He is 47mm tall and 65mm long.
His eyes are 09 seed beads and his nose is embroidered.
He took about 10 hours to create.

is there another way to use a recycled fabric other than wool, such as i don't even know what but perhaps an unnatural fiber of some kind... to achieve the needle felting effect? or is wool the only way?

This February/March I’m going to be participating in one of those “get inner city kids off the street so they stop doing stupid things!” type whatsits (yay, good karma!) teaching several classes of beginner knitting and sewing. It’s really a great program, and I’m super excited about it. The classes aren’t huge, everything I want is paid for, and, of course, getting to do something I love!

So. Inspire me?

(Behind cuts because clogging your friendslist is not of the cool, yo)

The knitting! )

Summed up: I need help finding a third really easy knitting pattern for teens, after learning a garter scarf and ribbed wristlets, without the use of DPNs or circulars! Also, recommendations for a cheap, superbulky yarn.

Any help is gladly welcomed and will be met with love, adoration and possible groping.

And because text posts (especially Really Long text posts) are of the boring, here’s my working on figuring out a very simple wristlet pattern. )

So my grandfather doesn't have much longer to live. He's been diagnosed with alzheimer's and my mother doesn't know if he's going to make it to next christmas.
I really want to make something special for him this christmas. I gave him a frame with a picture of him and me (as a baby) and wrote a special note to him one year, which really made him happy, but i want to do something a little more this year.
If anyone has suggestions I would gladly apprieciate it...
I'm really busy with finals so I'm going to have to work the week before christmas on it, so it can't be something that takes a whole LOT of work... But still special.

Thanks :)

*i did post this to [livejournal.com profile] crafty_gifts but replies seem to be few and far between in that community.

I feel kind of dumb for asking this, but for small gifts I was hoping to decorate a few lighters, and I was wondering if putting nailpolish on them would be entirely stupid. ( nail polish being flammable and lighters of course making fire). But I thought that the nail polish wouldnt be in the flame, so it wouldn't matter. Is it unsafe? Should I try it and just see what happens?

thank you!

Hello everyone! It's my first post here(yay) so I thought I'd show you the two most recent projects I finished. Sorry about the picture quality, I had to use my cell phone to take them. Here they are!

Thanks for looking!

My mom has been trying to make me learn to knit for years. I've tried and gave up multiple times, but just a few weeks ago I decided I wanted to knit my boyfriend's parents scarves for Christmas. Rather ambitious consider I was never even able to complete a pot holder before, but once I'm determined enough I guess I can do anything I want!

I haven't finished his mother's scarf yet but I wanted to show you the one I did for his dad, I'm pretty proud of how it came out!

First scarf ever under the cut! )

My Mom bought my Dad a new pair of jeans and he got some bleach spots on it and she wants to know if theres anything she can do to fix them.

I don't know what it looks like cause I'm up in college still but some suggestions would be great.

Firstly - I want to thank EVERYONE for their lovely comments and suggestions in relation to the theft of all my stock. I just love how the online community bands together in the time of need. Once I've stopped sewing for a bit - I'll try to reply to everyone individually to thank them.

I started planning what I was going to make first yesterday. I've been wanting to make wristlet bags for months and months - I figured now is as good a time as any to give it a go! I had been wanting to make something larger with the asanoha fabric and the vintage owl trim :)

Searching through old images, I found one thing I took pics of when I had a working camera. I have no idea how to use tags (if you know how, please let me know!), so here's the pics (there's only 2):

This mini tote is made from recycled jeans. I stitched a hem around the top or the bag but left an unfinished edge and unravelled the jean to give it a neat look. There's a snap in it to keep it closed. The beadwork on the front took forever!

I'm fairly new to this community, so hello! :-) I've checked all the memories on the topic of bath bombs, and I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong, so here goes...

I'm trying to make bath bombs similar to the Lush bath bombs in hardness.

All Lush bath bombs use as a base is...
baking soda
citric acid
fragrance and essential oils ONLY (i.e. no fixed unscented oils)
coloring

So why aren't my bath bombs working out? )

Does anyone have any advice for how much water/witch hazel I should be using for a little less than a half cup of dry ingredients and 3mL of oil? (Or just in general how much per x amount of dry ingredient? I'm considering ordering 1 oz each of some fragrances so I can make a bigger batch anyway; 1 oz would make 10 bombs in my case.) I want as hard a bath bomb as possible, because I'd like to give these as gifts. :-/ Thanks for any help.

So this appears to be my first real post. Here goes...

My friend (and I) ia/are dearly in love with a little webcomic known as Scary Go Round (http://www.scarygoround.com/index.php).
My friend is even more in love with this adorable guy, Krakkagar (http://www.scarygoround.com/shop-tshirts.php#krak).
So for a belated birthday/early non-denominational period of winter festivity gift, I made him a... Krakkagar plushie!
krakkagar 004
He is made with some sort of black fabric from my basement, super-duty button thread for his white line and yarn balled up and stitched down by hand for the eyes. He is all machine sewn except for the eyes, white stitching and the stitches used to close him up after stitching.
I must say I'm happy for a first try at sewing anything, and I hope my friend likes his new secret scary friend.

I've checked the FAQs on glass and metal, but can't find anything about using that metal tape stuff or soldering glass. I've just received this beautiful stainglass desk set (soldered), and I've always admired the pressed flowers that are set between glass tiles that are held with the tape stuff (in copper or silver).

So, one, what is this 'metal tape stuff' and where can I find it?

Two, has anyone here worked with stainglass and soldering? How difficult (and expensive) is it to get into this?

Any basic advice or recommendations?

So has anybody purchased the RoseArt "The Real Knit & Gem Machine?" To me it looks like an instant knifty knitter for making simple tube scarves. Is it any good? Can you use it with normal weight yarn (it comes with eyelash)? If it can... I am going out tomorrow, and getting myself one asap... mmmmmm... instant scarf.

I found the absolute best (and by absolute best I mean most painfully hideous) tablecloth the other day. I originally picked it up to make bags for a local consignment shop, but decided that it was too good to waste on possible hipsters.

So I made myself a bag. Because I don't have enough of those. )

I have been wanting to spin a set of themed yarns for a while and now I have finally done that! I am really pleased with them:

Hi all - quick question (and I'll post something I've done soon, promise).

I've got a mug that I love (it's one of those cheezy quote mugs), but it's only decorated on one side. No good, says I. The website says it's "ceramic matte finish" - do any of you know of how I could stencil on the other side so that it won't come off when I wash it?

Thanks in advance, y'all rock.

Hi,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I love to craft, first and foremost I'm a knitter, then a beader and a needle-felter. I also like to sew, but that is done more with heart than talent. I'm looking forward to talking to everyone about crafts and seeing everyone's wonderful work :)
Have a great day!

we just got new phones for the family and i wanted to make some cell phone charms for myself & my mom. we have the nokia 6102, but it doesn't have a little loop for the charm to hang on (as seen in this photo).. if I attach the dangle onto the antenna, will it still hold on ok? what material would you recommend making the charm with (for the part that hangs on -- will embroidery thread be OK?)

i'm looking for the little bands that are like this:

so i can attach a dangle onto my antenna instead. anyone know where to buy these?

I don't think I've ever posted anything I've made myself here... though I've commented lots and asked questions of the members. Guess there's a first time for everything. =) I've felt really, really crafty lately, so I channeled that energy into a bunch of fun little projects.

I apologize in advance for the rather crummy picture quality. I hope to get a better camera soon...

Ooookay, this is my first post on here and pretty much my first craft attempt. Short on money this year, I decided to collage picture frames for everyone. I'm proud of them, even thought I know it's not the most original idea in the world. I've got 4 made so far... I have about 6-7 more to do...

lots of pictures! )
