I made this for two very good friends of mine who got married just over a month ago. Both of them are New Zealanders who spent a few years in Los Angeles, where we met. I love these people so much, I wanted to give them something really special for their wedding- and, since I was the only one of their LA friends able to make the trip to New Zealand to actually go to their wedding, I wanted it to be something that would remind them of all the people here who still loved them.
Here's the end result:

I got a big box of scraps from
kambriel, so that's what this is mostly made of, plus a few scraps from my own collection. Lush, rich velvets (embossed, crushed, and plain), satins, silks and laces make up the bulk of the fabric, with a few pieces of wool and cotton thrown in for good measure (loooots of texture, since most of the fabric was black). There's also some red, plum, blue, and grey color.
Also, what made this quilt very special were the printed panels; nearly 60 in all, printed on transfer paper and ironed onto some plain whit cotton. Each panel had some special significance; there was Pasadena City Hall, Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, the American and New Zealand flags, and some scans of "Munchkin" cards, for instance.
It took me a *month* to make, and has about 1,000 pieces, but it was worth it. Sorry if the picture's blurry. I've asked the Kiwis to take some better pictures for me in the future (they love the quilt, btw).
