Hello everyone!

This is my first post. I've been lurking for a while though. I made a ton of jewelry for friends and family for Christmas and never got around to taking pictures. Here are some recent pieces:

Hola!

My boyfriend's birthday is coming up on the 25th, and I wanted to do something special for him. You see, he's really, really hard to buy for, and everyone ends up giving him money or gift cards. But I didn't want to do that, I'm his girlfriend! I can't be like, "oh, here, I got this for you..." etc. So I was thinking, he has this extreme like of the stars. He's in love with them. So maybe I could make him a quilt or blanket for his bed with the stars, or maybe the constellations, on it? But this is really hard because I don't know where to get started. How would I get them on there? If anyone has any advice or anything, please let me know! Thanks :)

i know people have asked about sergers, and i mean this is no way to be redundant.

1. what does anyone know about juki sergers? i know juki sewing machines are made in japan and are what they use for industrial machines.....

2. between bernina, husqvarna, janome, white, baby-lock etc they all have their $500 machines and their $800 machines (canadian dollars) - what on earth is the difference between the brands. sales reps are telling me all different things, sometimes in the same stores about the same machines. one will say the parts are made in japan but it's assembled in china, another will say it's all made in japan, and another will say NO home sergers are made in japan.

So, I've recently gotten into soapmaking and having a blast with the Melt-N-Pour way of doing it. But I'm running out of base and would like to get some more. I specifically want something that is all natural and I found it online, but it is in Australia at this site:

http://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/cgi-bin/jude/catalog-jude.pl?62

The description reads like this:
Melt & Pour - Natural Base
This natural base contains NO SLS and no propylene glycol. It is a glycerine rich, vegetable based meltable soap base.
Does anyone know if there is a supplier for this type of base in the U.S.? I have googled for a few hours now. I also found out that if the memories section says it is unavailable then just refresh it a few times and it works fine. Maybe I'm just not searching for the right thing, I don't know, but I could really use a hand.

Here are my two latest soap concoctions:Read more... )

Using some free cotton fabric I got from one of the lovely ladies at Glitter, I put together an overnight bag for myself. I'm moving into an apartment soon for college, but will still be commuting home for the weekends and whatnot, and this bag will come in handy for bringing things back and forth.

My sewing skills are far from perfect, as you can see from the top zipper image. I had a lot of trouble putting together this bag. First, I used no pattern; I just sketched out pieces to sew together and then cut the fabric based on my measurements. Second, while sewing this bag, my needle broke and shattered into a number of pieces, one which bounced off my neck. After that, I was ready to give up sewing, but I was encouraged by everyone to finish the bag & also was advised to use a heavier-duty needle. I picked up some thicker needles (for sewing denim) and finishing the bag was almost as simple as eating a piece of cake.

So what if it doesn't LOOK perfect? It is functional, and that is what I need it to be.

I created a few new pendants within the past few days and I really love them. In this picture the top two aren't set yet. I love the one with the third eye, not sure if I will make it into a pendant or see if anyone wants it for an art doll face or heck I am thinking about trying to do an art doll :) The other unset face is kind of a night scene.

Underneath are three wire wrapped pieces, the first is a pretty greenman pendant and I love the colors that I did on it, it is so bright and perfect for spring and it has little spiral green wires on the top of the setting for movment. The next two are mainly b&W pieces and I got these cool black and white striped sead beads that I put on the wires for the setting that work so well with these pieces. The one on the right I tried doing something new witht he wire on the setting to mimmic the design on the face and I love the way it turned out.

So I've been thinking about using aloe in soap. I have an aloe plant. Can I just squeeze out the juice into the batch? At what point should I add it (before or after soponification, and to the oil or lye if before)? I'm kinda new at this, but getting the hang of it fast! :)

i made this for my mom for her birthday. 100% acrylic (i wanted it to be washable), unfortunately could not be blocked. i tried to iron and it helped a little bit but not enough. she likes it anyhow. i made a pattern on the ends by reversing specific stiches. my grandmother taught me to knit when i was five and now, over a decade later, i finally made something. actually, this is the second knitted scarf i made over winterbreak but i was too lazy to photograph the other one. next i'll attempt a beanie.

Not sure if this has been posted here before, but I thought of the craftgrrl community when I ran across this link today. Give it a look for some inspiration!

Hi everyone! I've been lurking in this community for a while and many of you have given me a lot of inspriation to do some crafty things. A lot of my friends at school are really crafty and I wanted to do some things of my own, so I've been making stuffed animal pins made out of felt and some other things (maybe I'll post some pictures!). I want to start making small stuffed animals with the stitching on the inside, but I'm not even sure where to begin. How do I put limbs on? Is there a tutorial anywhere for this kind of thing? It's kind of a big project for a beginner like me to tackle, but I think I can handle it.

Thanks for any help you have to offer! <3

A bit ago I shared with you my creation of a pirate squid, well today I have a different squid..

Ninja squid! )

The Ninja squid is made out of acrylic yarn, safety eyes, polyfill, crochet cotton, and pipe cleaners. He is from my own pattern and pretty darn cool.

I have ideas for so many more different squid. I think I'm addicted to making squid!

Well, it took a few hours, but I now have a sweet Golden Girls shirt.
Everything's Golden

With how popular the show is getting, I was surprised at how hard it was to find a good, decent-sized picture of Blanche online. But I DID find one, and I spent the rest of the afternoon drawing a satisfactory Blanche, cutting her out, assembling her little pieces on a shirt and tracing them, and then finally painting the design on.

Not as good as the Golden Girl fingerpuppets I made for a friend a while ago to cheer her up during her hospital stay, but I'm pretty proud.

I'm making my boyfriend a t-shirt quilt/no-sew tie blanket for his birthday. I want to make the blanket a decent size (pref. a king size), but I don't think I have enough shirts. So, I know that I can add a blank square in between each shirt to give it the "checkered" look, but is there a way I can add lyrics to the plain squares, other than using fabric markers/fabric glue or anything close?

I thought about transfers, but I have yet to see a transfer on a black shirt that looked semi-decent.

Help?

Okay crafty ladies - this is a question that goes out to all beadweavers on the site.

So I like looming and I dabble in peyote stitch and tonight I tried doing some caged bead styles. I am coming along well with the technique but something is just not right with it. I can't put my finger on what causes this to happen, but I cannot seem to keep my peyote stitch or this new caged bead pattern to stay taut when I am doing it. I am using some high quality embroidery floss without beeswax. So I guess my question to the experienced weavers is: #1, should I change my medium of thread? or #2, should I begin using some beeswax? or #3, HELP!! Give suggestions!!!!?

Haha, anyway, please offer me some advice, I am getting quite frustrated! ;)

Hi guys, I've decided to stop lurking and join in :)

I wasn't sure what to do as christmas presents this year, but truffles always go down well and they're usually quick and easy. Unfortunately I went overboard on buying ingredients, so I ended up with 400 in 9 varieties.

This is them on a table, sorted out for boxing up.
Sorry for the bad image quality, but come this way for their recipes. )

All in all it was worth doing, but it did take a while!
