Was wondering if any of you ever painted on acrylic before. I just wanted to be sure what type of paint would stick to something like this. I asked Google, but it came back with answers about acyrlic paints themselves. I'm hoping to find something somewhat sheer but will still add color to match the rest of my bathroom.

While I have nothing to share right now, I can promise photos of the finished product if I get some good advice :)

KAWAII DRAWSTRING BAGS I MADE FOR 2 SWAPS

I went through my yarn bin and found projects on needles and hooks that needed finishing, so I've been trying to finish them.

The first thing is a fucshia pouch trimmed in black. 100% cotton (Lion Brand) and basically a knit rectangle on size 8s. I was practicing ribbing and bound it off and blocked it and decided it could be sewn up into something! I stitched the sides in black, then went around with an H hook and single-crocheted to make it neat and eye-catching. Sewed on the snap pieces twice (yarn was too thick so I split the 4-ply into 2-ply) but finally got it right. :D

3 pictures )

The second thing is an afghan I started last summer in Jiffy Thick'N'Quick (colorway: Rocky Mountains) and I'm ALMOST DONE with it. Made up a simple chain-1 space pattern and used a P hook. 48" wide by 53" tall (going for 60"). INCREDIBLY soft and warm, and that yarn works up fast (a good thing, since it's my first blanket and I'm an impatient soul). :)

That's all, folks!

First time poster. Be kind;)
I do all sorts of crafts, X-stitch, quilting, beading, but most of all knitting or crochet. So here's a few items of mine:

Wristlets!

This spring and summer I will be participating in a number of craft fairs.
I've been working hard to try and bulk up my inventory. (I still have a ways to go, God help me!)
So in addition to jewelry, I've decided to sell these little babies.

wristlet.jpg

Oh so cute and oh so functional.

There are many times when I just need my wallet with me, but I absolutely need to be hands free. Hence I made it so I can have my money/debit card, metro card, license, tampons, lipstick, gum, whatever wee object I fancy, without fear of me placing it somewhere and leaving it there. I tend to be absentminded, especially when I shop. My solution, I keep it tethered to my wrist!

There are 7 total, won't you come take a look? )

my apologies if this kind of post is not allowed, feel free to delete!

my local michael's is hiring and i, needing part-time employment, am pretty psyched. but, being that they are a big corporation, i thought i could check here first to see if anyone has worked for a michael's store before. what were the corporate rules like? was it as fun as i imagine it could be?

thanks!

This is a leftover smocked panel from my childhood. Mom finished it and decided that she didn't like the pink and it was shuffled into a box. I rescued it, found what I think is the perfect fabric, and brought it up to date. :)

The fabric didn't want to photograph too well. The last picture here is probably the closest to what the fabric looks like. It has stripes of khaki, brown, white and pink, with a thin white and khaki floral stripe and a dark raspberry colored pinstripe.

I love the double ties in the back, but they were a pain in the butt to make. I was trying to use my knitting needles to turn them and they kept poking through the fabric. Bleh.

I'm working on building up some more outfits. I've got a 3rd one finished now....I just need to iron it and take pictures!

Anyway, on to the pictures!

I just bought some jewelry tools (a vareity of needle noses, wire cutters etc.) and made this necklace. I've never done any wire work before, so I am really geeked over how it turned out.

Okay I need some advice.

A club at my school goes on a trip every year for a weekend. About 80 kids go and break into small groups and we have activities planned and whatnot...Our theme this year is superheroes. I'm a leader of a small group and I have to make 15 superhero capes for everyone in my group. We're using them as a closing activity at the end of the weekend and we're putting each person's name on the cape and everyone in the group has to write something positive about each person on their cape. Cheesy, yes.

Anyway. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. We bought lots of fabric and ribbon to tie them. I'm thinking I have two options. I can either cut out the fabric for the cape, hem it, and then just sew the ribbon along the top, or I can fold the top over and make a drawstring-like pocket and thread the ribbon through.

I'm wondering what my best option would be. Or if anyone has any other ideas. I think I might just be making this way harder than it should be.

EDIT-- Our group is Mighty Mouse, which might just be the worst superhero ever. The other groups include Superman, Spiderman, Batman, and The Hulk. And we get stuck with Mighty Mouse. So if anyone has any other cute ideas of things to make/wear/do that have to do with Mighty Mouse, feel free to share. Because we have nothing.

Yay first post! I have been stalking you guys for awhile, bwahaha.

Here's my deal: I'm printing out a ton of pictures on iron-on transfer paper and transfering them to a large white blanket. So it will look like a quilt but it will actually just be a ton of pictures in a grid. Problem is, a lot of the images I want are in a video, and I don't know how to get stills from a video file. I know it's been done, and my boyfriend showed me how to print them directly from the video, but I need to photoshop them first and all that jazz. So my question is: If I have a video file, how do I save still frames from it, as individual files?

thanks in advance! i'm so psyched about this project :-D

I finally finished my hairfalls! They're made out of various types of yarn, ribbon, and rexlace. I also included a pic of a bracelet I made a few weeks ago. Enjoy!!

Hello I found this: Photo tips for jewelry ! Got some tissues? You're all set!

I have heard some other options including poster board, etc. Simply using my own bathroom light and the lights above my sink, placing my jewelry on some white paper has worked before, but I needed something more professional and reliable. After the trouble with my last posts' items, I looked these up.

So I hope you guys can benefit from this!

If anyone else has any other tips, please share!! Especially black background options

Several months ago, while walking, I happened to look up and saw two buddhist flags caught wayway up in a pine tree. Today, I found them on the ground- a bit dirty and windblown, but still freakin awsome! They have amazing buddha graphics and (I think) Sanskrit prayers, printed in a choppy block-print style. It's just the two, obviously snapped off the full strand in a windstorm. Would it be insulting to buddhists if I used them to make a little bag? I'd really like to take advantage of the graphics and make something, but I'm worried about offending devout buddhists:(
Also- Any other ideas for using them? If it's insulting to cut/sew them, I'll have them framed (can you tell I like the pictures?)

so i'm doing an assignment for my AP UShistory class which involves writing an obituary from the civil war/reconstruction era. I was wondering how I get tea/ink stained paper to feed through my printer? I have a huge laser printed.. I was going to stain it after printing but the ink would run.

My grandma gave me some awesome polkadot fabric so I made a circle skirt. I realize this isn't the type of weather at all to be wearing minis so I guess I'll have to wait until spring comes.

i took the plunge and bought ity-bity castings to make earrings from!
unfortunately, i accidently burnt the resin while trying to get rid of some minor air-bubbles, so, as a result, the resin is a little yellowed. and the air bubbles are still there!!

peek! peekaboo! )

luckily, because they are made to order, i'll be the only person with a burnt pair. anyone who buys a pair will have them burn-free and fabulous! you can't see the yellowedness in the picture that much, anyway.

*excited*

Does anyone know how to make one of these:

beaded necktie necklace )

I saw one at a flea market and I didn't have any money, so I promised myself I would learn how to make one. But I've been digging and digging and digging for some kind of pattern that either tells me how, or that I can get the general idea from, but to no avail. I've googled, searched on craftster and looked at the memories all across livejournal and back. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Recently I've been thinking about some art I saw a while back and some stuff that I've heard of, but never seen.

I want to find something to remove the back off a mirror.

I am know that fixer (ya know, for photography) would work, but I don't really think that that is my best option. I've heard of a product that is designed to do that, and from hearing other people talk about it, assume that it is somewhere near the consistency of the stuff that you use for glass etching

What is this stuff called?
Where can I get it?
What do you know about it?

I MUST HAVE SOMEEEE

I apologize for being a chronic question asker, and I extra apologize for the non-craft question but I figured if anyone would know, the craftgrrls could help. How do I post pictures from my flikr? The LJ FAQ are of no help other than the photos have to be hosted on a photo site. Unlike Photobucket (which makes me crazy) Flickr doesn't seem to have URLs for each picture. Help? If I can figure out how to make it work, I'll share some crafty goodness.

So yeah, I've been hanging out here for a while, checking out all the cool things people make. A short intro before the pictures....I'm almost 34, been crafting different things since, oh, high school, I guess. I sew (including drafting my own patterns) and do crochet and cross-stitch, mostly, but I also paint boxes and ...well, whatever else my odd little brain comes up with when I'm wandering through Michael's. I love that store.

Anyway, the pics...there's quite a few, so I'll stash them away.

dear crafters,

i desperately need your help. i've kept up with the community for a whiiiiile and i apologize for not posting anything worthwhile but i'm at school and all of my crafting supplies are at home. i reeeeeally miss my linoleum printing supplies and my acrylics....

anyway, i need a sewing machine. i've been trying to learn to sew for years, and actually got a singer for my birthday but it broke and my mother returned it and never got another. so i'm looking on ebay. i don't have much to spend but i'm willing to save up a couple paychecks... i'd prefer something around $100 but not if that's not going to get me any quality. so here's my search... any recommendations? i had read that brothers were good for beginners...

i'd love to go to a used sewing machine store, and i'm sure there's one in the area, but i don't really know where to look.

help a sister out
