There's something happening this week but it's for the church an stuff and religion really aint my thing, I am an atheist so I'd stick out like a sore thumb ghoing to church retreats.

to bad too cause the crafts are right up my alley. Are there any craft retreats and stuff not based through the church or some religious weekend?

Children’s Play Maps – Return to the days of your childhood by spending time helping us to color. We have hundreds of large floor maps that display a make-believe town with schools, parks, stores, roads, etc that will delight the imagination of a child....but they need some color! So come grab a crayon and bring these maps to life!

Children’s Christmas Stockings – This year a new service project joins our list. Several agencies have asked us to prepare felt Christmas stockings to give to children, teens, and the elderly who are away from home during the holidays. We will hand-sew the edges on each stocking and then attach fun, decorative embellishments. These stockings will make a delightful gift of cheer during the Christmas season.

Service Projects:

ABC Educational Books (coloring) – Spend a few moments coloring these cute ABC pages that will be distributed throughout the world by the Church Humanitarian Center. These fun and education booklets give teachers in other countries a tool to aid them in their efforts to empower the children through education.

Infant Fleece Blankets (stitching) – Blanket-stitch an edge on the sweetest infant fleece blankets you'll ever see! The stitch is easy to learn and beginners are welcome. These blankets will lovingly wrap tiny babies born to teens or underprivileged moms. In such a simple way we can bless and encourage our sisters in need.

Pocket Hearts (stuffing & stitching) – Join us as we hand-stitch and stuff our small colorful fleece hearts. Gold is for those with a heart of gold, red for love, purple to remember our veterans, and pink for a cherished friend with cancer. These tokens of tenderness, that take minutes to make, are distributed by local hospitals to the young and old. Clutching this small keepsake seems to bring a ray of hope into an anxious heart. Don’t let this tender project go without your touch.

Procedure Dolls (stuffing & stitching) – We are stuffing hand-made dolls that will be used by pediatric hospitals to demonstrate medical procedures to children. These simple dolls have a soothing effect on a child’s anxiety about an upcoming surgery. Come make a doll and find a wonderful way to reach out to a child in need.

Fleece Blankets (cutting) On Friday only – Come Friday morning and listen to Women’s Conference while we knot the edges of fleece blankets. This is an easy project that can let your mind concentrate on the session while serving someone else. The warmth of fleece makes this a definite “feel good” project to work on.

EFY Fleece Cutting – In an effort to assist the Especially for Youth (EFY) program at BYU, we have a room stacked with 25,000 yards of fleece! We invite you to help us cut this fleece into blanket size lengths so EFY programs all over the United States can spend time serving others. The kids will fringe and knot these blankets and then donate them to agencies in their local areas. Come join the fun!

Hey there
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good online source for hook and eye tape? I am looking for the small stuff (3/4" to 1" between hooks) in black and/or white (north america preffered)
I do have it around here, but it is fabricland - who i detest shopping at because they are snooty and overpriced ^__^ heh
I did do a google search and have found a few stores, however I am looking for personal recommendations, you just never know with online shops!

and so this isn't text only here's an artsy shot of a bag i made recently..

I have never used Swarovski Crystals. But I see them often.I have been trying to bid on them on Ebay but they always go very high priced!I dont have alot of money to spend so I would have to get only one a week or so.
My question is where can I get some Swarovski Crystals for a good price?
On Ebay I was bidding on 3 beads and they just ended for $3.00.I cant see myself giving $1 per bead.Im not looking for a huge amount of one type, maybe 30 beads to a pack for a good price. Also s&h shouldnt be to high.
I am working on making alot of stitch markers and would love some of these beads. Please help.Ty Nacole

I am going to be selling some of my clay doodles at an upcoming convention. I'm planning on putting each one into a flip-top box (like a box a mug would come in, but smaller) with tissue paper for safe-keeping while the buyer wanders the con, with a stamp of my logo on each box. I found a good place online offering decent prices for bulk boxes (papermart.com). I got 100 because I'll have no problems using them in the future. Even with their rather high shipping rate I'm saving about $50 compared to my local crafts store prices.

I also would like to get some little shopping bags for the boxes to go in to make carrying at the con easier (the little boxes are 2"x3"x3"). I've found a lot of places who sell them in bulks of 100-200, but I'm really only going to need 30 or so and hate to waste money on something I won't use. I would prefer a bag with a handle, simple brown or white paper would work (so I could stamp that too). Does anyone have any suggestions online of where I could find a smaller number? (I've checked Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Wal-Mart - they don't really have what I'm looking for, for a decent enough price.)

This is the first time I'm trying to sell something at a convention, and I'm trying to think of ways to make it easiest on the buyer.

And so this is not text-only, here's a lil polymer clay wolfie )

am i a retard to think that i can make new candles by melting down the leftovers of my old candles?

i skimmed a book recently on candle-making from scratch, and it was a bit more complicated than this. i've been saving all sorts of wax fragments so i can make cheap gifts. if it won't work, any ideas about what i can add to or do with all this wax?

So, I made a little gargoyle. He's a crochety old bastard, and he'll eat a pigeon sooner'n look at it (don't let his small stature deceive you!). He needs a name though, I'm open to ideas. And I think I'm going to knit him a little scarf since I messed up on his neck-joint. Overall, fun, but not entirely pleased.
Oh, made with Sculpey polymer clay and painted with acrylics and inks.

Has anyone tried to dye lamp shades? I have some great silver lamps that would look great with brown shades instead of white. I'm not sure what kind of material they are but they aren't the plastic lined ones so I think that might help.
Anyway if anyone has any ideas or thoughts let me know.
I am off to search for articles now on HGTV and DIY.

My younger sister had to make a cover for her Religion Journal and since that sort of thing is my passion and I just happen to be a Religion Teacher-In-Training, she came to me.

I'll be making these little meringue porings (a monster from a game called Ragnarok Online - if you google image the word poring, you'll come across lots of original pictures from the game and such to compare my creation to) for an up and coming anime convention.

So I present to you my little poring army. =3 I'm quite proud of them. Especially the little girl one hidden amongst the men there.

However I do have a few questions related to meringues if anybody has ever dealt with them before.

My meringues cracked in the oven. Now I've heard that opening the oven door even a crack will cause this however the second batch I made I didn't go near the oven and they still cracked. I heard that cream of tartar improves meringue quality but after adding it the cracks appeared. In the first ever batch of meringues I made, there were no cracks so my question is what does the cream of tartar do exactly? I don't think I'll be using it in future batches though.

And I can't get my porings to cook all the way through. There is a little squishy part on the inside that just doesn't bake through and the innard breaks away from the hardened outer shell. I've been told by a few people that this doesn't matter and meringues are good that way anyway (seeing as how they are actually cooked all the way through) I just wonder if maybe there's something I could do to get them more professional like on the inside as well as outside.

Thanks =3

Oh and if anybody is wondering, the recipe that I used:
4 egg whites
1 cup of castor sugar
pinch of cream of tartar
vanilla essence
food colouring
I used basically the same meringue method that's found on a lot of websites and baked it in the oven at 120degreesC for about just a little over an hour.

I hate my oven..the bottom shelf, back few rows always get burnt bottoms. But I'm too afraid to get into the oven and turn the porings around in case something weird happens to the meringues.

I took photos of the booth that I shared with my friend at the local arts festival. I think it looked pretty nice. She makes children's clothes in addition to jewelry. Her stuff is on the right of the booth. Mine is on the left.

Booth Pictures )

Our location wasn't that great - kind of in the back away from the main street - so I think we could have done better if we had a better location. But I'm happy that we managed to at least make back the cost of the tent and the booth fee. It was my first show, so I think it was good experience.

Here are also some pictures of a necklace that I made the night before the festival, so I didn't have time to post them until now.

Not really new here, but this is my first post so hi.
Firstly, i have a really stupid question about iron-on shirt transfers made for black fabric. i guess i'm just retarded because i can't get it to work properly! i tried a few different times on a test piece of cloth and it came out with white around the image like a normal transfer! Has anyone here ever used Avery brand dark shirt transfers or had this problem? v___v It's really frustrating....

Oh, and so my post isn't entirely boring, here's some pictures of the skirt i made that i was planning to iron a design on....
