Liquid polymer for stamp making?
Jul. 24th, 2006 10:23 amHas anyone tried using liquid polymer for making your own rubber stamps? I've not tried it yet buy was just using it for making fairy wings and thought maybe it could work for making stamps out fo my own drawings.
The reason I ask is I wanted stamps that are more durable than erasers and last longer and this seems to hold up well, and have the right texture.

Muffet Makes Cards!
Jul. 24th, 2006 11:06 amI just spent ages coding this for my sales journal... and thought I'd share it here too!

Handmade cards, each thumbnail is a link to a bigger and better picture.
The cards are a creation in Cardstock, mulberry paper, acetate, glass paints, glasspaint outliner, glue, embroidery floss, lots of glitter, sequins, funky foam, coloured pencil, beads, ribbons, knitting and anything else I found hanging out in my craft drawer!

I hope this isn't too confusing; I'm confusing myself as I try to think of how to ask this question.
I am making pendants. They are quite delicate, and require a delicate "chain." What I envision in my head, is a thin wire, attached to the pendant via jump ring, then threaded through one bead, then separated, then joined via clasp of some sort. Like ( this )
My questions are:
a) what kind of wire should I use? I have access to Michael's and a couple beading stores, so I should be able to find anything recommended. I would like the wire to be fairly flexible, and not kink easily.
b) what should I use as a clasp and how do I attach it to the wire? Again, I would like a fairly delicate clasp. If I were beading, I would just use crimps, but since I'm not, I'm reluctant to use them because I don't want the rough end of wire sticking out and I'm not sure I will be able to cut close enough to the crimp.
I appreciate any help you can give... I'm sorry if I'm not clear with what I'm trying to do. If you think you might be able to help me, but I'm not being clear enough, please comment and I will try to explain further.
(I'm also thinking, for more earthy pendants I will just use hemp, and for more girly ones I will use ribbon... but for these, I would like the industrial look of wire)
Thanks guys!

Some summery yarns!
Jul. 24th, 2006 02:41 pmI have been really busy spinning lately, despite the soaring temperatures here. It hasn't been too bad. I think knitting and crochet are worse in the heat as they tend to sit on your lap whereas spinning yarn just passes through your hands and not onto your body anywhere, if that makes any sense?
Anyway, here are some of my recent yarns in lovely bright summery colours.

Jul. 24th, 2006 02:42 pma couple of weeks ago i posted this in my personal journal:
"i have a lot of clothes. it's not a bad thing. but there are some i don't wear. so i have come up with a plan. i am going to wear every single piece of clothing in my closet in rainbow order. yes, my closet is in rainbow order. so it will be about three weeks of black, then 1 week white, 1 week brown and onward.....to the colors! if i can't make that garmet look good that day then i have two choices, reconstruct or give away."
and now to prove to myself that i keep my word...

Laminating sheets?
Jul. 24th, 2006 04:18 pmHey everyone. I'm helping my little brother do a project for when school starts and I need a thick laminating material. Anywhere I could get some? Thanks.
embroidery
Jul. 24th, 2006 04:25 pmI received a custom order to embroider a design on 11 golf shirts and only have 17 days until they need to be to the customer. Eep!
I need to embroider the designs and then attach them to the shirts because if I wait until the shirts get here, there will be no time left. I think I'm going to use Steam-A-Seam 2 to do that but I need to know what type of fabric I should embroider the design on. I used muslin for the sample but feel like it looks too "bleh" for a finished product.
This was only the 2nd time I ever embroidered and I was probably insane for accepting this order. I'm on an extremely tight deadline, so any advice you can give would be wonderful.
Bad photos of the sample can be found here.
Thank you!

EDIT:
I found a lovely quilting store that, in my 16 years of living here, I had never seen or even heard of before I looked in the yellow pages (believe it or not). The woman there was extremely helpful and assured me that Steam-A-Seam 2 was exactly what I needed and luckily they had it in stock. For the fabric I'll be embroidering on, she gave me a very high quality 100% cotton muslin that is much nicer and more durable than the $1.27/yard muslin I used for the sample. I forgot how much spending the extra few bucks at a mom-and-pop store is worth. The thought of walking into JoAnn with the questions that I had on hand was not pleasant. Haha. Anyways, time to embroider!

I crochet!
Jul. 24th, 2006 04:32 pmI really, really hope this doesn't violate the craftgrrl rules, although I did read them! If they do, let me know! I will go peacefully!
Last month, I went home to see my mum and dad and I visited my favorite little yarn shop ever. The nice lady who owns the shop really enjoys spinning together fun/novelty yarns with a natural fiber, creating some neat combinations. Last time I went, she had some little bits and pieces for sale (drastically reduced, of course) and I bought four of them in coordinating colors. My question to you girls (and maybe guys?) is what I could do with these.
I was hoping to make something other than a scarf or hat (I crochet), so I would love love love suggestions.
I'm still a beginner after all these years, but a very fast learner. Any suggestions?
I apologize for the text-only post, but I assure you that I'll have pictures to post soon of my quilt and the dress I am also working on!

Metal Cuff-Bracelet
Jul. 24th, 2006 08:18 pmMy younger brother made this metal cuff-bracelet type thing in school last week. I think it's pretty cool, a little rough around the edges, but it's still pretty cool. He gave it to me :)

Voodoo doll and coffin
Jul. 24th, 2006 10:36 pmA friend is having a really hard time with an ex and her current guy isn’t helping much with certain areas of support. So I made her a little voodoo doll and a coffin for it to live in.
( sort-of picture heavy – dead weight and all that )
( sort-of picture heavy – dead weight and all that )
First I built a belly dance bedlah (bra and belt) from scratch: individual cups, interfacing galore, grossgrain ribbon infrastructure and then silk and some beaded fringe. I quickly embroidered it with silver thread and performed in it. That was at least a year and a half ago. Then I decided that I needed to rip out the silver thread and really buckle down and make something more professional looking...so I started beading and beading...I got the money for some non-homemade costumes so there was no rush... a thus I burned out on beading for about 8 months.
Last week Monday I picked it up again and now it is finished (I still need to anchor in the belt lining and hooks...but here it is because I need to bask in having finished!
