i've checked the memories and a few crochet how-to websites, and for the life of me, i can't figure out how to crochet ribbing for the bottom few rows of a hat. i've figured most of the hat so far, but this bit i can't quite understand.

Ribbing
Ch 3(4-5) loosely.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in next 1(2-3) chs: 2(3-4) sc.
Row 2: Slip st in next 2 dc on hat, turn; skip slip sts, sc in back loop only of next 2(3-4) sc: 2(3-4) sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 2(3-4) sc.
Rows 4-23(31-35): Repeat Rows 2 and 3,10(14-16) times.
Row 24(32-36): Slip st in next dc and in same st as joining, turn; skip slip sts, sc in next 4 sc; finish off leaving a length for sewing.

so instead of working in rounds, i need to turn the hat sideways and work in rows.

what do the numbers in brackets means? i understand it usually means repeat of some sort, but it's not making any sense to me... and then TURN (does that mean flip the whole piece around?) back loop, as in previous stitch?

help please... my acrylic yarn is starting to get fuzzy from all the attempts.

thanks in advance!

ohh.. it's a ladybug hat for my friend's three day old baby, and i'd like to keep her head warm. most friends thought she was going to be a boy, so she received a lot of green and yellow and blue items... nothing really 'girlie'.

When I was 4 years old my very Belgian Grandpa Bernie liked to show me off around NYC, because I was so well mannered. He used to take me for tea in fancy restaurants, because I knew which forks and spoons to use, and then we'd go on special outings. One of those outings involved grandpa Bernie taking me to the diamond district, and having an amethyst (my birthstone) bead necklace strung up for me on silk cord. Well, after 19 years the cord decided to crap out and I was stuck having to learn how to bead. Today I hit up Michael's for some beady goodness, and here is what happened...

This pendant was so much fun to make. I got to experiment with gold leaf (which came out real well, I think.) Anyone know where I can get translucent clay? I've tried practically every crafts store in the area (namely Michael's...yeah, out town doesn't have much.) and I might have to resort to an online clay store. Any suggestions?

Does anybody have any really fun craft projects for Halloween? Something a bit out of the ordinary? I haven't had the chance the past few years to go crazy...but this year I do, PLUS we now live in an area where children exist and will show up at our door on Halloween.

Also, here are my three newest creations:

Alright, here's my problem. I have the marbles. I have cut out images with an x-acto (sp?) knife at 1/2". They are the perfect size, but obviously cutting them out using the knife does not look professional. I have looked everywhere I can think of locally (JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Walmart, Office Max), to no avail. I am making these to sell at a convention next (not this) weekend. I don't have time to order something online (and all my fiancee could find online was in bulk anyway). Where or how can I find a single 1/2" circle cutter? Didn't they used to be everywhere?

I am using non-pearlized flat marbles, the kind that are sold in the floral section of any craft store. I am using E6000 glue. I am using 1/2" magnets, because 3/4" magnets were too large and I can't find anything between the two sizes. However, the 1/2" magnets are really far too small, even though the images are perfect at that size. Thus, these don't look nearly as professional as I would like. Do you ladies (and gents) have any suggestions as to that issue?

The images I am using are images I have collaged together in Photoshop, burned onto CD, and run to Walmart's photo center so that I can get inexpensive photo quality prints. Much better than anything my printer can spit out, more than likely, and cheaper for me than using all that ink. Ink I'm saving to print stickers and sheet magnets that I will also be selling at the convention, after all. ^_^

I bought the E6000 glue for the marble magnets, but am thankful I had it. I made clay horns, and was having a PAIN of a time keeping them on the hair clips I am working with. Someone recommended that I use the E6000 glue, and now it seems I will (thankfully) be able to sell the horns after all. That was quite the relief. Thought I would mention it here, in case anyone is in a similar situation. I was previously using hot glue, which continually peeled away from both the clay and the metal of the clips.

I haven't made many clay charms, or baked the ones I have made, so I'm not sure if that project will work. Though I would love opinions on the ideas. Small, matching clay charms dangling from the end of french hook earrings, with glass beads accenting above? Sound reasonable/functional, or no? I'm using jewelry findings for the loops at the top of each dangly/bead/charm I make out of clay, baked directly into the clay.

And I'm rambling. I'm sorry. Once I have some pieces finished, I'll come over here and post up pictures to get opinions. Hopefully I finish everything in time. ::flails::

I followed the picture tutorial from the FAQ. however, after the glass was dry, nothing and i mean NOTHING showed up.

we rinsed off the etching cream while the vinyl was still on. we waited 7 min for the cream to work. then we peeled off the vinyl. then we used window cleaner to wash off the glass.

help?

So my nurse purse that I made, I can't use in school, because it is so big.
Pssshhh whatever, so I had to make a new one again, because pretty much all of mine are big.

I guess I will have new pictures of it later, I am just putting some finishing touches on it.

Hi all...

My parents just bought a new house. The bathroom has a small window inside the shower stall, which right now is covered by a venetican blind. Looks kind of dumb, gets wet and icky and blocks out the natural light from outside. We saw something at home depot... looks like a paper film you put over the window to make it look etched or like a stain glass window. It's pretty cool, but it's $20 and the box has a lot of it. The window is pretty small so we don't need that much. Seems kind of silly to pay $20 and only use 1/3 of it.

So I was thinking is there something I can buy at the craft store that is similar? Maybe a spray type of thing? It can't be permanent, so no etching stuff. I was also thinking of making it so there are some spots that are clear (circles maybe) using stickers and then peeling them off.

Any ideas?

I wanna make this jacket - anybody know of a pattern out there (simplicity, mccalls, etc)  for anything that has this neckline?

so, I checked through the memories for how to transfer images to translucent polymer clay and didn't really get anything (possibly for lack of good looking skills).

So, yeah. I was wondering how you do that, in a step-by-step process.

Of course, with my luck, it's a lot easier than I'm thinking and I'm just an idiot for not figuring it out on my own.

And i promise I'll post something with images next time!!!!!

I am currently really fascinated by fascinators (hahah I know, I'm so lame). Although I kind of have an idea of how to do it, I dont exactly know what is going on. If anyone has made some before, would you mind posting some photos for inspiration and maybe some tips/advice on how to make your own?

I assume that you just get some kind of hair clip or comb and hot glue feathers, beads, fabics, items of interest, etc. and hope that it turns out good! I don't want anything too elaborate, just something that will spice up an otherwise casual look, and ad some interest to my otherwise boring hair. What kind of hair clips work the best? is hot glue the best adhesive or will it look cheap/melt the feathers? is there some kind of base that you add stuff onto?

TIA
