My visual arts computer class just assigned us with our summative project and we need to make up 12 pictures for a calendar [we have to create it] and my friend decided she wanted to put pictures on a clothesline kinda thing...[to present it as the final calendar]

I remember a while ago, instead of buying the actual product, a craftgrrl got suggestions here on the community and made her own thing as a gift. It was something similar to pictures not exactly on a clothesline, but hung on a wire?
If you could reply or if anyone has the link or any info on it, that'd be great. Thanks =)

i made a cow hand puppet out of felt!

using these patterns and directions :) i did want to make washcloth ones, but i couldn't find any plain washcloths that were big enough. so i just decided to make felt puppets instead! i need to sew the back on the cow, as i ran out of thread earlier, heh. and then i'm gonna attempt to make the bear and then the bunny :D

so i bought this really great hot pink 75 cent sweater at the thrift store today but its a pull over and id really rather it was a cardigan. anyway i can cut it, sew it some how even though i dont have matching yarn/thread and without it unraveling? its machine knit, not hand knit. i dont really care about being able to close it ever although if i were too id probably just use snaps so i wouldnt have to mess with button holes. if i can make this work it will be the best sweater in the histroy of the world so help a girl out!

[livejournal.com profile] bridgiduh and I spent hours tonight getting our fingers sticky for the first time and we had a blast. Now we are duct tape addicts. Thanks to all of you for ideas and inspiration. Here is a gallery of what we've made. Suggestions and comments are welcome.

Our night's work.

so has anyone here made a sweater scarf? (cut up a sweater, piece it together into a scarf)

i want to make a black and red striped one for my friend. but i have no idea how i would attach the two together. like how would i stop the yarn from unraveling? and how would i affix the two colors together without looking shabby?

thanks

anyhoo,

i need help.. again *blushes*

im making a skirt from this nice fabric i found at the market, and i went to get my mums sewing machine this morning, and the metal 'stick' (no idea what its called) that holds the top reel of cotton, was gone. i looked for it but no luck. so i cant use the machine as i wont be able to get the right tension. So.. How can i hand sew it strong enough so that it doesnt fall apart? Because that would be really embaressing :o thanks

what types of paint/brands of paint are "food safe?"
[identity profile] catbastard.livejournal.com
I made these pillows for a friend of mine who works for the local power utility. I wanted them to be almost "grandma retro" in style, with the twisted fringe along with outside, but with the radical anti-pollution fabric on the inside. I hope she gets the joke!

Maybe this will help someone. I didn't think of it until today.
So, I have no idea what to get a few family members, so I'm making CDs, to find out what songs to get them, I went to billboard.com and looked at the top singles for the kind of music that they like. Cause let me tell you, I have no idea what good Christian tracks are or Country. Oi.
I'm trying this software to make the CDs: OSS Audio CD Maker 2.0 (there's a five day trial, I better make it quick!) (--nevermind, there wasn't a freaking trial. argh! Trying this one now...)

Hey guys, I need some help.
In my visual art computer class, we're making a calendar for our final summative project. So far, we're researching / looking for non-traditional/original calendar designs.
I was wondering if anyone has seen anything interesting or have done anything like that. Not even calendars...maybe even just designs or ways to display photographs? Just wondering.
Thanks a ton.
Happy crafting!

Does anyone know where I can buy paper bags, bigger than the bagged lunch variety?

I wanted to use them as shopping bags at the craft fair this weekend, but I only found the standard ones.
Thanks.

Hi! First time poster.. looong time lurker. About time I posted!
Here's some of the things I made in the last couple of days.. for friends or just like that. They're all just made out of twisted wire and beads. My first time actually using wire.

*drum roll* )

Does anybody have some links to more stuff to do with wire?
I've got heaps of wire that's quite thick. Thanks!

My mother and I spotted some angel wings for dogs in a pets mart ad, we were extremely dissapointed by the size and quality of them at the store(and the price of $10 for the size and quality) so we made some of our own. Most simple project ever, ribbon scrap, velcro tape, angel wings, tada. We made another set for a poodle in irradescent and purple since she's a girl, and it matches her fur, but these are our pug cuj modeling the boy version(and a rather dapper bow tie made in the same fashion).

cuj prefers the bow tie, more behind the cut )
His spikey collar will be removed when he really wears it, but he refused to let it be taken off just for a couple pictures.

I'm gutting a book to make a photo album. And I feel awful about it. I always do when I'm tampering/altering/butchering vintage items. But it's too perfect not to. (It's for a friend who just moved there.)

But for anyone else who is also doing this:
please, please, please check the value of the book before you butcher it!

Here is one such resource. Thanks!

Xmas Production update.

I've finally managed to finish a xmas project. Yes, more about spoons )

The speediness of chocolate spoon dipping is galling compared to all the christmas-ornament sushi (aka. the project that would not end) that I've been working on for weeks. It's turning out to be really cute... just achingly slow.

Wrapping pressies is my favoooorriteee part of Christmas! Just thought I'd share some pictures of my home wrapping job this year...done in blues, silvers, and other various snowy colors.

+3 More )

Wrapping paper (One larger roll of snowman paper, which can be reversed and used as plain white also...and one cheap pack of 4 blues & silver papers. Each roll of those had very little on it, so it's not exactly a great deal to always buy your paper in variety packs!)

Ribbon (My biggest expense, I got one really nice wired blue plaid, a variety roll of blues & silver curlable, a roll of white and silver cord, and a neat snowball one. As with wrapping paper, be sure to check the length of ribbon you're getting on the roll...it's often deceiving and over priced!)

Decorative Add-ons (By far the most fun part of the gift, this is where you must search for good deals. I got a case of 20 ornamental balls in the right colors, made for a smaller tree, for $4 at Target. The glittery pine cone was $1, I got it for that special gift. I also got some blue candy canes to stick on the gifts, also cheap and festive!)

Other (Some Gift Wrap tape, which is wider than most normal scotch tape and available in your xmas wrap section. Also got some tinsely wire, which I curled on a pencil to add to the bows, etc. Tissue paper (white) is your best bet, as those decorative ones are overpriced and low in sheet count...I got 2 packs of it, and didn't even use all of 1. )

Total cost for all this wrapping around $30 or so, and wrapped about a dozen gifts. I've still got a ton of paper left...though I'm kinda outta ribbon. Oh well, it's not like I mind a trip back to the ribbon aisle! :D

Thanks for letting me share! :) *wave*

I'm looking for round or heart shaped molds for bath bombs... ??? I went to Michaels & they did not have any. The website I've been using recommends plastic ornaments that come apart in the middle... anyone know what I'm talking about & where I might find something like this? Thank you.

Also... where do you purchase citric acid?

Muchas gracias.

My boyfriend has this pair of tented glasses that have that mirror stuff on the outside of them.

What would take the mirror stuff off? Something that isn't going to damage the glasses or blur the lenses or anything.

I just started knitting and am encountering some problems. I think that I'm casting on too tight as my loops are almost unmanagable, but that seems easy enough to fix. However, I also seem to be adding on stitches as I go...I started with 30 and now have 45 having only knitted about an inch. Is this a common problem? What am I doing wrong. I'm just going to start over, but what should I do different next time?

The Winter holidays are fast approaching and it seems this community is getting more traffic than ever. Everyone wants new ideas for personalized gifts and decorating tips, and so many awesome contributions are coming in. I hope that we can avoid a "last minute shopper" mentality (people being in such a rush they become a tad shortsighted) , with an excess of repeat posts, and crafters not consulting the FAQ for imformation about common ideas, links to other communities, and how to use the livejournal cut function. We all want to keep this community an easy to navigate, helpful and friendly. I hope at least someone found this post helpful, because that is it's intention. I know some people are afraid to ask questions (I was guilty of it myself when I first joined). So happy holidays to everyone on the board, and joyous crafting!

Okay, so I got the bright idea to make some of those no sew fleece blankets for some of my cousins. I made three, they turned out great (I used the "kits" that they sell at JoAnn's -- where they give you the two pieces of fleece already cut out and such).

The problem is -- I got the bright idea to get some other fleece cut because I thought the designs were more appropriate for the kids I was giving them to. I'm an idiot, tho, and only got a yard of fleece rather than a yard and a third (like in the "kits").

So, I can't very well make the blankets out of the fleece I have, but I need to make something for them out of it.

In any case, I have 4 pieces of fleece -- two with patterns, two with matching solid colors.

The kids are both girls -- teenyboppers.

Any ideas?

Hrm.

Anyone know of any holiday related things that are supereasy and crazyfast to make? Crochet is preferred, but I knit like a fiend as well.

I'm a resident assisant and I've got a floor get-together tomorrow. I'd like to give my kids something cute that I've made, as they all know I'm constantly somehow working with yarn. I just want something teensy and cute. I do have...crap, 72 of them. Thank God half of them don't give a shit!

it's not amazing
but I'm blaming that on the fact that I cut open my thumb with an exacto-knife and almost passed out half-way through.

Hi.
I'm going to be making candy gift bags for christmas presents.
I'll be making my usual caramel popcorn, sugar cookies, divinity, fudge and choclate pretzels... but I'd like to do a few more different things this year and wondered if anyone had any suggestions.
Preferably something that would keep for a few days without problems.

Thanks!

i bought some fusbile interfacing today, but i didn't get any instructions with it (i bought it off a roll). what setting do i iron it on? and do i iron the shiny or matte side? if it makes a difference i am putting it onto polyester batting, and i bought "heavyweight" and "lightweight".

i was just wondering if anyone has seen sun or light sensitive paper in craft stores recently. the kind of stuff that you put leaves or other such things on and then lay out in the sun, and everything that isn't covered turns blue. i know we had a package of it in my house, but it's not worth the hunt. so if you have any info, help a girl out.
