Hey everybody, I'm a newbie to crocheting, and as you can probably tell this is my first attempt. It's just a basic scarf I'm using a triple stitch (three tier, i'm not sure what the technical term is :-P) my question is, i'm sure you notice the twisty nature of the scarf and i just wondered if that's because of bad tension or is that natural and might go away if I block(?) it. thanks for your patience with me :)

fish!

I came across this tutorial on weaving ribbon into fish-like things: http://icandream.com/crafts/a/ribbon/fish/index.shtml

It looked pretty cool, so I decided to make one out of some 1/4" pink ribbon I had. Here are my results:

I glued the top fins together and did the same to the bottom. Then I glued the tail on instead of knotting it otherwise it would appear too knotty.

The directions are a little hard to follow, but you can click on the images and blow them up. It took me about 20 minutes to learn how to do the entire thing properly. But it would look really good if you made several and glued them to a t-shirt, a tote, or something.

Sorry....

I had no idea about geocities not letting you put pictures up. It looked ok last night, so here are the pics. You can feel free to delete the last picture. The orange hat has glow-in-the-dark beads on the top. In the past, I have sewed catnip mice for my kitties, and for sale; I have made bracelets out of toothbrushes, done countless collage projects on all sorts of objects. I also like drawing, but am not particularly good at it. Lately my man project has been journals made from little golden books. I could post the directions if anyone's interested in making them. Hope you enjoy, I'm looking forward to even more good ideas in your forum.some stuff from yesterdaya pumpkin I carved that looks like my cat

Does anyone have any idea what to do with empty Pom Wonderful bottles. I bought the juice as much for the bottles as I did the juice.

Your help would be appreciated.

I want to make a purse/bag that will cross my torso, meaning I can sling it across my body (obviously it’ll have to have a long strap or whatever), but with plenty of pockets and room for all the crap I have to lug around for my peace of mind. Would anyone have directions, advice, blueprints for me to accomplish this?? I’d appreciate it!!

Hello all. I went thrifting yesterday and found a very nice skirt. The only problem is, its too small. I looked through the FAQs for a possible conversion to a bigger skirt. But, though there were some neat ideas in there, I couldnt find what I was looking for. This may be impossible, but I have heard otherwise. If anyone has any ideas on how to do this..please let me know. Thank you!

I made a shrine box with images of India and various indian religious icons. I know I probably mixed together Hindu and Buddhist images but I wanted it to be a shrine to the beauty of India, not to any certain figure.

I think it turned out pretty well but the box I used is perhaps too deep and so it is hard to see some of the interior images. I don't have access to a space to build boxes so I have to buy things at thrift stores and what not.

I will post pictures as soon as I can. I need to post a pic of the collage I made for the BF as well. I gave away almost all of my marble magnets so unfortunately I have no pics. I made some new dragonflies and necklaces so I need to get some pics done of those as well.

Up next is working on a slate painting of Ted Williams I made for my dad three Christmases ago and never finished. I have to finish this.

I made my first Illusion Necklace last week. It was pretty easy to do, once I bought a crimping tool, and crimp tubes instead of crimp beads. The beads kept breaking the fishing line, because I squeezed them too tight with pliers.

long time no post ;).

i've no means of posting pictures, but i made a little baggy last night for my new pocket pc.
it's green and pink, and oh so ugly, but i made it, and it's mine. so i'm proud.

now, i'm in the spirit of making baggies.

i remember looking at a post where the person made a pretty.. pouchy type bag
with magnets as the holders. i bought magnet strips for making a similar one, but lost the motivation to do so.

i had it book marked, but i've recently reformated.
and i can't find it in the memories.

help?

thanks, nyssa.

I was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] rocketsareneat and made some magazine creations today. I used contact paper instead of packing tape. I think packing tape sticks to itself better than contact paper does.

Yesterday I picked up some Sculpey Glaze Gloss, and decided on a whim to also pick up some Sculpey Glaze Satin just to give it a try.

I used them both, and don't see any difference! Anyone know what the difference is?

On the ribbon fish site that somebody posted just a few hours ago, there are links to other crafts too. I found a section for Perler beads, which are THE coolest things ever. They're cylindrical plastic beads and you put them onto a pegboard and make a pattern, and then you iron over them and they melt together so you can take them off the pegboard. I used to make all sorts of stuff with these things as a kid.

Anyway, I'm posting the link in case other people want to take a walk down memory lane with me: perler beads

If I still had the bucket of beads I used to, I'd probably still be using these. :D

hi,this is my first time making skirts, and I have some questions for you more experienced clothes makers.what is the best type of elastic to use on skirts? right now i'm using 1/4 wide elastic, but if there is any better type, let me know.Do I make the skirt according to exactly how wide my waist is,or do I make it a few inches smaller or bigger for the elastic? Also,I'm going to be using some pretty heavy duty stuff to make skirts (it feels like denim, but its not),how do I sew the elastic in to make sure it holds my skirt up? with my first one,I just sewed some fabric over the elastic, and that skirt is holding up pretty good, but the back part seems a little more stretched out than the front for some reason.any advice would help! merci!

A couple of years ago I got this idea from one of my extremely innovative cousina: using old plastic beads from older lady necklaces to make Christmas garlands.

I made one and then the next year found more beads and restrung it. It just needed some other colors. I used every cool necklace I could get my hands on. I even used beads from tacky little kid's necklaces and some beads from an old parrot roost that was never used. There are some fimo beads in there that I made back in '92 and even one I found at a trift store that has the cat in the hat on it. I also made a few out of that paper mache stuff you get at craftstores and pushed some seed beads into some of them.

One thing that I didn't do which my cousin did as she had a store and had accumulated mass quantities of these necklaces(there used to be a massive fall sale at a local nursing home where they had tons of fabulous necklaces with really cool glass and plastic beads--I have some glass ones from these necklaces that I use for making new necklaces for people), was to add the tiny gold beads that came on some of these necklaces, in between the mixed up beads. I didn't have enough of those. However, I now have a multi-colored, fun garland and I might just keep it up past Christmas and use it for everyday. I will get a picture.

I just recently got some awesome fabric, and I want to make a skirt. I looked at a bunch of websites, but none of them seem to have a good tutorial. I was wondering if any of you have any advice... or could link me to a skirt tutorial.

is anyone familiar with a three year old's head? i knitted a hat yesterday for the three year old daughter of a friend of mine. i knitted it using this pattern, which is for 3 to 5 year olds. my gauge was correct for the pattern, and everything looked great...until i finished it. i can put it on my head, and i'm not three to five. this is the first hat i've ever knitted, so i'm kind of freaking out about size...is anyone familiar with the average three year old's hat size?? i can't try it on the child i made it for because, as luck would have it, she lives in canada. and i live in a childless household.

[livejournal.com profile] sadmnky told me my latest knit project makes me look like a jedi.

I once again modified the knitty poncho pattern, this time opting for a hood, and a slightly smaller poncho. I did this on my denise needles, sort of half assing it as I went.
This is also the most professionally 'finished' knit project- I'm trying to get away from knotting the yarn, and actually weaving the end strands back into the fabric.

i made a little make up bag out of felt. i used a print out picture and some clear vinyl to make a patch, and put in a red zipper (which still needs a bit of work). i hand sewed the vinyl on, since my machine apparently hates it, but that's ok, it cam out pretty good anyways.

When my sister's plaque came in we were out there decorating it like crazy. It was a few days before xmas but we put up plush ornaments, floral picks little banners, lined up mini pine trees and flowers at the base, people brought beaded wreaths and crystal ornaments, we lit candles, I made an artificial pine mini wreath with star garland and a silver heart charm with my sisters name. It was full. For new years I made a wreath using foil garland and poppers. Someone came by and stold/popped some of the popers which angers me.

Her birthday is next week. She would be 23. I made her an ornament that is a ceramic star with birthday themed cat stickers on it (not to crafty I know), bought her some ornaments, a plush cat with angel wings and a celestial theme, a card to sit in its lap, I am making her a artificial flower arrangement...We are also bringing ballons and flowers/plants to her.

My mom decorates the crash site. For xmas she put up a mini tree and we found battery operated lights at Beverly's to hang on it. For new years my mom put up a sign that said something like 'please do not drink and drive or get in a car with those that do'...

I make paper ornaments with ribbon, sparkle oragami paper and scratch art stickers. They don't hold up well. The weather has been nasty here lately. I am thinking of beading some stuff and make garland for her, 7 day glass candle holders decorated, fimo ornaments, oragami stars. However we want to keep her spot decorated all the time. We remove things and put new things up after holidays. Or if we leave nice things we hope they are there the next day (people like to steal) and bring them home.

Her niche is a small box with a plaque. On the sides of her plaque she has two flwer cups. She is placed in the middle box on the wall. Any ideas? If it helps she liked celestial things, cats, canabis culture, zodiac (capricorn), candles (we leave 7 day ones all the time), keychains...Like I said things get stolen there all the time so the better they stick/hang the better they will be.

Thanks. Ohh and my mom takes photos of each theme we have done. If anyone wants to see just ask and I can post them up in the next few weeks. :)

I've finally caught up on some of my photography and have new pics of hats to share.

There are a few more on my page: http://www.samiamru.com/crafts/hats

I've been learning a lot about felting and have SO many more experiments to try before I feel like a have a clue. Once I do I think I'll be able to make lots of lovely hats in all sorts of crazy shapes. The hat forms aren't the easiest to make and have to be really smooth but it's worth the work.

Hope you all enjoy!
