PVC

Hmmm I have this old red PVC top shoved in a drawer somewhere and I had a burst of creativity and figured there might be some way I could make it into a red batman/catwoman mask just like the ones in the batman films or the one in this picture from ghost world.

I have a sewing machine and that weird plasticy thread that is supposed to be good for PVC etc but I have absolutely NO knowledge whatsoever of how to even begin making something like this (I only got the sewing machine at Xmas and can only sew in a straight line so far, lol! But I'm a fast learner!) do you people think this might be at all possible? Anybody got any tips/instructions/bright ideas?

Hello all. I am an avid photo-lover and am constantly carefully taking out beautiful photos from magazines to keep. I would love to find an easy, yet creative [Isn't that what this community is all about?] to display them in my humble bedroom? It would be nice to be able to take them down easily without the usual stickiness of tape or tears or crumples. Any suggests? I can't do a large frame either. Thank you for your time--!

my first try at felting something other than a flat blob.

broken image? it has been moved to crafty.myheadphones.org

my first couple of experiments with felting were fun, so i thought i would see if i could mold it into a hat-like shape this time. i don't have any kind of molds or anything, so i used the nearest thing i had to a hat shape which was a big mixing bowl. then i stretched it over the bottom of a big tub of butter and let it dry. there were random holes and chunks of felt hanging off, so i stitched those together with some thread and beads.

A while ago, someone (bad_kitten it seems) posted instructions and, more important, pictures to show how to make "sponge balls". I bookmarked the page at that time, but now all I can see are red x instead of the pics (this is my bookmarked page: http://www.livejournal.com/community/craftgrrl/1994852.html#cutid1). Since I'm no english mothertongue, I can't figure out how to tie the sponge sticks together with the only aid of words (or maybe is for my silly-being, I'm not sure ;). So, is there anyone who did that craft who can help me or even better bad_kitten to repost the pics or something to help?

thank you all,
ciao!

I'm not a very crafty person but I'm hoping to change that very soon. My partner and I will be renting a new home soon and have a very limited budget. So I'm planning to get started on a few crafty projects that will be practical for our new home. The only thing I can really think of is cushion covers, which seems easy enough.

So does anyone have any ideas that would be simple enough for a beginner?

Here's a picture of the card I made for my boy in Iraq. I wanted him to have a picture of us for Valentine's Day. I put those little xoxoxo beads in the pocket and they're sorta covering his face :) Woops.

X-Posted to my journal.

Could I dye a canvas bag with jello or kool-aid? It's a pretty thin canvas. I looked in the FAQs but it was just about redying a dark canvas bag, mines still the natural color.

i'm a bad art teacher!
well, not in general, but in this particular case...

we have had a high school boy in our class doing his senior service project for about two weeks. he cuts paper, does bulletin boards, helps out in lots of ways. the kids like him. i want us to give him a "going away/thank you" something. it just occurred to me that he's leaving wednesday and, with today off, i am left with tomorrow only to do this.

anyone have any FAST ideas? i am all about ideas, but all of mine seem as if they would be too cheese ball or would take too long.

bah i waited too long.

i heard that you can make fabric thin by soaking it in saltwater.
i can't find anything on the internet so i don't know how long to soak it, how much salt to use, etc.
does anyone know about this?

I'm making a scarf and I'm using a really bulky yarn. I keep trying to make my scarf roughly 10" across, all garter stitch, but once I've got three or four rows done the silly thing is nearly two and a half feet wide!

when I started casting on I pulled 30" for the tail... three times the finished width I was looking for. how come it keeps turning into monster scarf??

Hello Craftgrrls! First post, so... here goes.

I recently bought a lot of gray camo fleece fabric for some pants I've been working on, and I had a lot of spare fabric. So I made a hat.

bad photos behind the cut! whoo! )

I made my little brother a smaller one, but he's asleep and can't model it for me. As soon as I finish the pants, I'll probably be posting them here.

I'm making my dress for our winter dance, and I want to make a huge, gaudy flower to go on the bustier. I looked in the memories, but I didn't really find what I was looking for.

Any links are appreciated.

So, here I sit, drinking gin and ginger ale. I looked at my door, and realized that I didn't post a craft I made a few months ago, a wreath for my door.

I saw this wreath in a fancy store for $40, but there was no way I'd spend that. I made mine for $17 with supplies from Walmart.

The Wreath )

I wrapped a foam disk with 2 feather boas, glued the ends in place, and then tied two ribbons to hang. :)

I'd go looking in the memories for this question but all of a sudden my IE has stopped agreeing with me. So I'm just gonna' post it, in hopes it won't give me another freaking page cannot be found. -.-; I want to spray paint my computer monitor pink. I've asked my friends and they said you can't take the frame off. So I'm just going to put sarran wrap and tape over the screen and ventilation holes. And anything else that I don't want paint on or in. I've had this computer for about 4-5 years now so it's not new. Any suggestions? Besides don't do it? Because I will! Unless you say it'll melt or something while it's on. My monitor doesn't get hot though. So that's okay. Just anything you can tell me to help out. Thanks.

A friend of mine told me that they saw someone with a Nintendo belt buckle. Upon hearing this information, I've decided that I need to make NES belt buckles for myself and some friends. I've got a few non-working controllers, and throwing things away sucks! Of course, I'm not exactly sure how to go about making the buckle.

I found auctions for some on ebay, but none of them show the backs of the controller where the belt would slide in. I was just wondering, how should I go about modifying the controller so I can use it as a belt buckle? I assume the same works for Sega controllers as well? I was thinking of attaching some D rings on either side of the controller and sewing a cloth belt to one of the rings... but then I saw the auctions and they look a lot nicer than the D-ring contraption I'm picturing in my head.

Anyway, here's a link to the belt buckle auction (bloody expensive if you ask me... but you didn't...;))

Has anyone ever tried this? Any help is greatly appreciated!:)

Anyone else have any trouble with that piece of crap tool called the "handy stitch"? It's that hand held sewing machine...I had a really crappy time with mine, so I returned it.

*Note to self* When TV products end up at Wal-Mart, it usually means the product bombed.
