I have a friend who wants to make some heart-shaped earings out of plastic...Does anyone have any suggestions as to what material to use, and how to go about making the earings? Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Just knocked this out today. I thought it would take longer, but the longest part was stringing the strands of beads for wrapping. The side views behind the cut didn't turn out very well, but the head-on picture is pretty clear.

I spent a good two hours raiding the local Salvation Army yesterday, and then a thought dawned on me. I kept on noticing all these oldish leather/pleather/vinyl/pvc clothes (skirts/jackets, etc) that, although not the most gorgeous garments in the world, are perfectly salvageable. The material itself would work wonders if cut apart and used to make new whatevers!! And the prices are rather decent ... most skirts were running like 3-6 bucks. SO, just thought I would share this find to you crafty gals (and guys)!

and, although I did not buy any of the aforementioned garments to hack apart (trust me, i wanted to!!), i did find some awesome ties, an old OD green jacket, and a few silly tees that will make it to these pages, as soon as I craft the heck out of 'em!

Could someone please expalin to me how to sew a ball?

I am trying to make a golden snitch stuffed animal, and i found this great remnant fabric..but it is probably only a 12X12 square, so i only have one chance. I have tested about 10 different ways on scrap fabric, and nothing has worked. Please help!

I finally have something that (I think) is post-worthy. Hurrah!

My mom brought this really crappy wooden box home from work, figuring I could do something with it. I turned it into a toy box for my niece, (I'm broke, so this is cheaper than buying her one. Also more fun.)

9 pics behind the cut, 40k each. )

I want to make a political banner on a large piece of cloth (probably a long strip of cheap cotton muslin). My plan is to spray paint the text by hand, but I really want to use a stencil image of the President's face. I've found a couple of great stencils online that will let me print them out and use them for free, but I'm not sure I can easily print something out that's going to be about a yard tall and about the same width. Any suggestions on ways I can enlarge the image for my banner that don't involve using the giant printer at Kinkos? Is it possible to print a very large image on multiple pieces of paper without trying to cut the image by hand in the image program? I have access to Photoshop.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Does anybody know how to make those.. blacklight reactive bottles with paint or highlighter ink?
I have the perfect freaking bottle, its a FUZE bottle and I have UV reactive paint..
Do I dilute the paint and just fill the bottle? or is there a way to paint the inside of the bottle?
I don't know if I like the water idea since I have a cat who likes to wake me up by knocking things off my dresser. :/
I looked up ideas for glass bottles in the memories but I didn't really see a detailed description on how to go about doing this.

Thanks! ^_^

I have a couple of questions that I'm going to ask you about first, and then maybe join [livejournal.com profile] handmadebooks or someplace and ask there if nobody can help me. :)

I'm going to be binding 30 books for a family reunion thing next month. I've got almost everything down as far as what materials I'm going to use, except for two things.

I'd like to find a decorative tape, maybe 1/2" wide, for the spine. Does anyone know where I can get something like that? Would Fred Meyer or Michael's or someplace have it? I'd like it to look sort of like masking tape as far as width goes, but I don't want the color of masking tape, and I'd like to find something that's a little stickier.

Also, I'm going to be putting an apple on the front of these books. This morning I went to look at fabric to see if I could just cut out apples and glue them to the covers of my books, but I'm kind of worried that the edges will start to fray or curl if people slide them in and out of bookshelves. Has anybody put fabric onto cardstock covers? How does it work for you? (My other idea is to just stencil apples onto the covers, but that's only if the fabric doesn't work.)

Thanks for all your help!!

lining?

Jul. 8th, 2004 11:41 am
[identity profile] ooper67.livejournal.com
okay, so I know this is going to seem kind of basic, but can someone give me a quick overview of how to put in linings? Specifically, I'm going tp put one in a purse (I haven't made the puse yet). I've been sewing for forever, but it's been a while since I made something with a lining and I don't really remember how to do it.
I guess I can't figure out how to make it so that the seems aren't sticking out and being all gross... and I'm nto sure when to do the lining.
Anyway, you guys are all so crafty and helpful... I've learned so many things here!

Does anyone know if the quality of material one is dying has an effect on the evenness of a dye-job? I've been using Dylon and RIT dyes for awhile now, and today when I dyed a t-shirt and some material, the material came out even but the shirt is kinda patchy... The shirt isn't a very good quality shirt, but it is 100% cotton. Anyone have any ideas? I used a cold dye....
[identity profile] petitevicious.livejournal.com
So, here's the follow up to my post yesterday.

So I wore the shirt to school, expecting someone besides my best friend to show some reaction. Nothing. No one said a thing, no administrators, no students. I feel so let down. :(

I've got some other 'interesting' tshirts I'm planning on doing, so we'll see if I can ever get a reaction. ^.^

Construction Paper Purse Tutorial )

Oh, and here's an important lesson I learned this weekend: don't leave your purse in the sun! The pink totally faded and I have this weird window pane pattern on it. :-/

I am in great need of a crochet hook stencil....I just need a picture of one. The reason I need it, is because I have taught my best friend how to crochet and she LOVES it, she is like horribly addicted. So for her birthday I’m making her a tote bag for all of her yarn hooks etc. that has a stenciled crochet hook on it and above the hook says “Hooker” She will hopefully love it. It fits her personality to a complete T.We actually have a joke going around about how proud her mom is of her “little hooker” lol. We are a odd bunch of people. But the only problem is I can’t find nor make a crochet hook stencil. So if any of you wonderful guys out there could maybe help me find one or something I would love you all forever! Thanks so much for helping me with this.

Here are some various bracelets & necklaces I made for a friend's upcoming surprise belated birthday/going-away party (I sure know how to procrastinate! But it's okay, because I am throwing previously mentioned get-together.

I think about this, & I think about personal history... )

I finally completed my first decoupage/collage project. I'm not really happy with it, but I'm finding my feet and learning what I like and I don't and the best way to do it. And it is very addictive!

Thanks in advance!

I have several reprints of vintage posters that I bought from art.com. Currently, they're in poster frames on the walls of my apartment. Needless to say, they look crappy. I'd like to antique them somehow, then paste them onto wood panels. My question is: Are there any ideas as to how to antique poster paper? The only technique I can come up with is soaking them in tea, but if you have any others (no matter how outrageous), please let me know.

my first purse )

I was wondering were you all got your fabrics from. Online, or from stores? The fabric in most stores around here is either old granny (not like cute old granny, but like..ugly), wild and crazy little kid, or newborn baby stuff. None of that stuff really appeals to me. Any stores/website suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, I'm a new member :)

Thank you for all the feedback on my duct tape tie. I've been thinking a lot about the duct tape thing, and what i can make, and I'm going to shoot for a vest next, i think. But i don't want to get in over my head. Thanks also for the self-esteem boosting, that was nice!

If the vest happens, y'all be the first to know about it.

Here are some images of the first three pieces completed recently from my current commissions. These are the pendants for the two Bride's Maids and Maid of Honor for the wedding of a friend of mine. All three used that silver-clay (once fired, it's fine silver, .999 pure) I've been babb'ling about, along with "implanted" sterling bezels (and in one case, wire) and stone (sodalite) cabachons. What you see are the cut-out imprints of real leaves, not molded, etched or stamped designs. In life, the detail is much more intricate...the clay really does capture the must subtle of impressions. I crimped the bezels a little bit to make them more organic, and match the leaves better. And no, I didn't make the chains. All three are 16" sterling silver "magic" chains.

Lookie, lookie... )
