i have this shirt that i recently bought and its got letters written in glitter on the front.. the only problem is that since the glitter is being held on just by glue of some sort, everytime i move, the glitter comes off. i was thinking of covering the glitter with a coating of something that will protect it, even in the wash. i haven't washed the shirt yet in case it ruins the shirt!

any suggestions?

Long time reader and some of you have seen me post on other threads...but this will be my first thread here.
*Hello*
I made this for my friends daughters' baptism party.

Hopefully you think it fits in as crafty!
It took 5 hours to mix the frosting and decorate it.

I'm going crazy, lol. You would think, since Christmas is a major holiday, that somewhere on the internet there is a Santa Claus cone-shaped sewing pattern for free, but I just can not find one (only knitting patterns, which don't help me). The basic shape of this Naruto hat is a cone shape, so I figured I could just base it on a Santa hat. I searched through some patterns at the fabric store, too, and couldn't find any. Bleh.

So, I'm just going to wing it and hope I can get something decent. I'm thinking basically, I just cut out two triangular-shaped pieces and sew them together... but my question is this: the bottom of the triangle (the shorter side, which will be where the head is) -- should I cut it straight, or should I cut it curved somewhat (not quite circular-curved, but kind of..)?

I haven't been doing any crafty stuff in ages, but last night i got the itch and whipped this up:

i've had two of these wooden frames sitting around empty forever.
painted this one silver, then mixed the silver paint with glue and added the silver glitter.
used the cover image, and parts of the actual pattern, from a vintage vogue pattern found at a thrift store, for the inside.
and then just hot glued on a square mirror, and glued a glitter border around the edges so there wasn't such a risk of jabbing one's self on the corners.

the outside measures around 11 1/4 inches, and on the inside it's 7 1/2.

it's not really my style, so i am probably not going to keep it. but anyways.

a few more close up pictures and some older things............... )

Hi! Look what I made last night!
Time just slipped away from me, and all of a sudden it was midnight! Yeep! I nearly turned into a pumpkin! But I’m so trilled to have this new pillow to match our kitschy guest bedroom. It’s currently very grandmotherly, but I’m planning on kicking up the kitsch factor so it’s more stylish and fun. The kooky floral wallpaper is my inspiration for the colour scheme.

I got this stencil from Sushi McFune’s site and I got the tattoo print Alexander Henry fabric on eBay.

Here are more photos:

i went to my friend's house the other night and he was throwing away a teeny bopper magazine that came with free temporary tattoos. so i took them and made my birth control packs sexy )
i've been in desperate need of a magazine holder but since i don't have any power tools (i live in an apartment in brooklyn, no table saw for me) it had to be made out of something that i could find easily. i got no help from google so i decided to look around my house until i found something i could use. well this is what came out of a cereal box + a boxcutter + duct and packing tape )
and whoever said that you can decorate a fish bowl with a paperweight is a genius. i had a beautiful paper weight that matches my fish just sitting around so i stuck it in his bowl. )
this isn't very crafty but i'm so proud of what i found in the garbage 2 days ago )

hi. i saw the section "mannequins: making/buying/using/etc" in the memories and thought this might be something good to go in there...

my little sister wanted to start making her own clothes and get a sewing machine this summer. (she wanted the stuff for her birthday, coming up soon.) my mom saw a store in the mall going out of business, and they had mannequins in the window. my mom went in and asked if they were by any chance for sell. well, they were. and they were only $10! (i think.. i know it was around that price.) my mom bought it for my sister and gave it to her then. this was a "tween" store, but my guess is that other stores probably get rid of their mannequins and stuff. so if you want one, look for stores going out of business. you might get stares if you're carrying one out of the mall (like my mom and sister did), but it's cool. :)

sorry if this isn't wanted or needed.. you can delete it.

Decadence is this weekend in the French Quarter. So i had to make me a little something for those all night parties.

I'm going to cut the Y off in a few minutes so it just says SEX, HOT

It was originally a choker for prosititots I'm assuming. So I just cut it up and made me some bling.

Im trying to make a shotgun shell gel candle and its not working....all i get is bubbles. I have used the gel before to make beer mug candles so the bubbles weren't a problem but now i need them to go away. Ive tried pouring at a higher temp. and placing in a hot oven to re-melt but it still doesn't work. Can any of you crafty ladies help....please!?!?!

Someone just posted that they needed a project for a new baby. I was going to post this in the comments, but then thought maybe someone else might be interested as well.

I don't have a picture of this, but it's something I had when my kids were very little, and I thought it was *very* cool, and it would be pretty easy to make with the right peices. I'm going to try to describe it as best I can.

It's basically a little wooden carousel

You will need:
A round wooden base, say about 4 - 6 inches across, with a hole in the center the size of a dowel.
A dowel about 18 inches tall
A larger wooden round with a hole in the center slightly larger than the dowel.
Ribbon
Small wooden animals - circus animals or horses or whatever suits you

The dowel goes into the base (wood glue will hold it)
The larger round goes onto the dowel next.
Then you connect ribbon to the top of the dowel and then to the sides of the larger wooden round. I think there were four ribbons. They should hold the larger round just a little bit above the base, so the two aren't touching.

Then you put wooden animals on the larger round, in a circle. It seems best if you put them toward the outside edge of the circle, so they don't get tangled in the ribbons when it spins.

Here's how it works. When you turn the larger round, the ribbons spin around the dowel, lifting the round slightly and putting it in motion. Then the ribbons naturally unwind and then wind up again in the opposite direction. It should continue moving back and forth (not quite spinning, but more like rocking) for quite a while.

I hope I have described it well enough for someone to figure this out. When my oldest daughter was very little, she loved to watch the animals rock back and forth. I loved the fact that it was made out of wood. I wish I knew what happened to it.

If there's any part of this that isn't clear, I'll try to answer any questions.

I made a purse! :) I like it a lot. Oringally the stars were supposed to be the lining, but I liked it too much. It ended up somehow being a reversable purse. (Because I accidentally sewed some of the black side inside out and then the lining was already inside out from the way I sewed it... so it has inside-out seams both ways!)

But I like it either way! :)

This is probably going to sound horribly stupid, but what does 'DIY' stand for?
[identity profile] sharmelon.livejournal.com
.. sewing is not as easy as it looks. lol.

i took a shot at the "robot purse" that someone posted here a while back (i think it was wasted_sympathy?). anyway, easy pattern. just of course i manage to fcuk it all up. -_-. i followed one direction wrong, and my stitching was so tight that i just tried to wing it from that point on and basically made one mistake after another. i think i made some because i was so frustrated and sleepy (and i couldn't sleep without getting it done) that i made more mistakes than i should have.

i'll take photos tomorrow, but oh man i am just so.. agh... it is midnight, i have a long day of class tomorrow, and i stayed up all night working on something that i already knew would become a mess if i kept working on it. blehhhh.
