a while ago for a print making class I was carving designs in to records and then pressing them
example )
now because I am not in that class I don't have access to a press
BUT
I still want to carve in records

here's the question:

*is there a way to carve a design in records so that it goes all the way through and so that the record doesn't break?
*could I use one of those wood burning tool things (or something similiar)?
*does anyone have a suggestion on how I can do what I've been doing but make it look good without pressing it?

(the way I had been doing it is just kind of scratching away so unless it's pressed it doesn't look very interesting because the actual scratched picture on the record is hard to see)

this may not make any sense as I am utterly exhausted

Okay, I think this is a pretty stupid question, but I'm not really up-to-date on this type of stuff..

What exactly is "no sew fleece"? I see you guys talking about it a lot, and I have no clue what it is. lol.

Do you really *need* a pattern to make an apron? Especially if it's a half-apron? Couldn't you just... cut a square of fabric the right size, hem, and then add ties or ribbons? Pockets if desired? Just wondering if I'm making this easier than it actually is...

Hello...I'm new...and not so good with the introductions.. so I'll just post a picture of some candles I made.

I'm making a bunch for friends for christmas gifts, since they all love to eat sushi. I'm gonna buy some more sushi mats like the one they are on and give them out like that. I'm not sure what to wrap them in though.. Any thoughts?

Hey!  I was wondering...

How would you go about decorating these shoes? How would I attach the sequins?  I have a pair but they're dying, and i refuse to pay 12 bucks at urban outfitters.

also, does anyone know where i could find some cheap flats to decorate like these? THANKS!

Anyone have any solutions for keeping a duvet straight in its cover?
[identity profile] nezchan.livejournal.com

Okay, I need help.

Some time ago, I remember someone posting a pattern, or a link to a pattern, for long, bellydance-style crocheted gloves. There was information as well on hanging them over paper towel tubes in order to glue sequins on the spots where the stitches joined.

Trouble is, I went through the FAQ and couldn't find anything remotely close. Am I just imagining I saw this? If anyone knows where I could find the post, or better yet the pattern (or one like it), I'd be forever grateful.

Could you give me some recommendations for fabric stiffeners?

hello crafty girls and boys!

i have a bit of a dilemma. my illustration professor gave us this assignment to make a self-promotion package. it looks like it'll be a lot of fun and i want to accentuate my silkscreening skills (as that's what i enjoy the most.) however i also want to incorporate my love of sewing and fabric, so i had a few ideas on that. i was also considering functional things so that theoretically a person could get my item and remember my work that way. so pretty much i can make anything, so long as it refers to my own artwork somehow.

this is what i've come up with for interesting ideas:

1) small (two or three inch) soft sculpture 'toys' depicting elements of my art-- a bird, a little ghost/bubble thing, and an amputated arm, perhaps more. possibly having silkscreened additions to the fabric? or perhaps those plus a little stuffed doll?
2) tear-off notepads-- really simple, just get a stack of printer paper, cut to size, silkscreen an image on the top or bottom of an image. then get a piece of chipboard for the base and bind the edge with some kind of glue.
3) small pillows/handwarmers with a silkscreened image on them.
4) tshirts, but then i have to account for size.
bear in mind i have to make at least fifteen copies of each item too. (later on down the line i'd love to make a small side-business of pillows and t-shirts and purses/wallets, but it doesn't need to be done now)

however i also want to make nice packaging, and overall really nice stuff because i have annoyed my professor by missing meetings quite a lot lately and i want to do good on this one so she doesn't hate me.

so my question/s is/are: 1) does anyone have any ideas of interesting crafty items that could work well within my project? 2) does anyone know anything about packaging-- i'm guessing i'll have to cut out my own boxes which is fine-- but what kind of stock/box template is good? how about if i want a window-- does acetate work well? 3) does anyone know any good places to find colored velour or thin fleece-- i'm guessing that's what i'll make the toys out of?

any suggestions would be great. the dolls/toys are going to be tough because i'll be winging it patternwise, but if i do it i'll be probably referencing japanese ufo catchers.

thanks guys!

Hello to all! I just joined today and I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Lindsey. I am 20 until April and call the Hoosier state home. I am quite the home-body. I am nuts about crafting! I love to scrapbook and paint. Currently I am making homemade Christmas cards, which is a bigger project than I expected! I am looking forward to hearing your ideas and giving you some of mine as well!

I found a pretty good site that has decent online lessons, I found them (so far) fairly easy to follow. BellaOnline Crochet Lessons Just thought I'd share.

The one thing that the author doesn't have, (that I was looking for) is how to crochet in rounds. She skips that entirely and goes to crocheting in spirals using instructions that require you to know how to crochet in rounds. grr. I looked on crochet.about.com, no luck there either. I'll google it in just a bit, but if anyone has a direct link for me, I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

Hello! I've been lurking around for a bit and finally got some pictures of my most recent (and only, I guess) projects. I suddenly realized I owned a sewing machine a few months ago and have gotten totally addicted to craftiness since. This community doesn't help with the addiction ;) You guys are all amazing, and I've gotten so many good ideas. These are some skirts, I used patterns but I'm pretty sure they are both just circle skirts. I'm working on a "gothic" puppet for a friend right now, and some leggings for another friend, and trying to perfect my really awful crocheting.

Help!  I'm dying to make a skirt as such...

If anyone could possibly make a tutorial on how to make that, I will be forever grateful.

By the way- that photograph isn't mine and is most likely copyrighted.  NOT MINE.

Most of these felted bags (fulled, if you want to get technical) were done months ago, but I'm lazy with the camera. This is the first one I did, and I use it to carry around all my knitting projects now. I love it.

Ok, so i'm kind of in a dilemna maybe sorta kinda.

see, this saturday i'm going to a who dunnit, and my character is a 50s scholar (i'm the senior class president and valedictorian), what should be my attire? i've never sewn in my life and i don't have the time to learn right now. all of your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not sure if this has been addressed, but I wanted to be very clear. Legal issues is the last thing I need.
Lets say, I liked some image or some phrase..or like, I wanted to make a band t-shirt or whatever, cause I didnt want to dish out $30 for it. So I made my own. Maybe it looks just like the one that the place is selling. Maybe it's just a quote like (the reason this question came about "Say the F-word....Feminist!"..and I put it on my shirt or whatever.

Just for me. No selling or whatever.
What happens?
What about if you..copy a certain skirt? Like, you like the pattern and the design and you make one for yourself..Lawsuit?

The memories dealt mainly with actual commerce..so I'm not sure what happens if you just copy it? I mean, everyone knows what it is and what it's from..I just made it and didnt buy it.

Sorry for making this so long-winded. Thanks for any feedback.

Are any of you making Christmas gifts for your friends and family?

I am poor and I'm trying to come up with something that I can make for a bunch of the girls I work with.  I am completely out of ideas.  I was thinking one of those cookie mixes you put in a jar with the directions, but those are overdone.  I was going to try to crochet something for them, but I don't think I have that kind of time.  I could just make my Christmas cards, but I wanted to do something else.  Do any of you have any good ideas or suggestions?

Thanks.

Here are some pictures of what my mom and I've been crafting lately!
Oh, and P.S. if you are involved with the Sampler and want it to be a surprise, be warned that the last picture is my contribution to it!
lots of crafting - purses, earrings, scarves )

Sorry about the rambling on! I've got even more projects on the way, as well as some stuff from Halloween (my mom made my costume, and I made a cute little tote bag) that I'll be posting next.
[identity profile] creativepain.livejournal.com
I've seen a few of you here talk about wrist warmers and I've seen pics of some crocheted ones.  My problem is that we don't have such items in the UK (or else I shop in the wrong places) and they would be so cool for me to ease my wrist pain.  Does anyone have a pattern for knitted ones?  I can't crochet yet, but I can knit.  Anyone help me out?
[identity profile] astrea.livejournal.com
From these pictures, it may seem that I've been busy crafting, but that would be untrue because it's taken me awhile to get all of this stuff made. I just made this first pair of earrings this weekend, though, and I really like how they turned out, considering that I haven't made any of this style before and they were mostly an excuse to try out my new pair of needlenose pliers.

More earrings and my very first crocheted hat )

I want to make an earing holder for my friend, you know, one of those boards that she can stick and display all her earings, and easily get at them...

Any suggestions to what I should do? I am heading to a hardwear store on Saturday and thugth maybe i'd look aroudn there but I wasn't sure...Any ideas?
