I propose a challenge of the minds. Ready thyselves!

At the store where I work, a bunch of ugly picture frames became warped and had to be thrown in the garbage. I cringe at the idea of almost anything that isn't an empty chip bag going in the garbage, so I salvaged what I could. Here's what I have:

- 8 oval-shaped pieces of thin wood, about 4 inches long and 3 wide
- 8 pieces of photo frame glass cut the same size

Any BRILLIANT ideas as to what I could do with these things? I'm thinking that they might be good for something Easter-y, since they're egg shaped. They also could pass as heads or faces. But for WHAT?

Aidez-moi, s'il vous plait!

xo

Thanks to everyone who commented on my sushi candles the other day :)
I'm glad so many of you liked them.
A few people asked how I made them, so I put together a tutorial as best as I could.

Hi all,

I'm ready to partake in my first show after a couple years and I'd just like some ideas on creative display. What sorts of things pull you to someone's table, is it color, content etc?

Thanks so much for all your input!

I bought 2 packs of flashlight lightbulbs, and sewed them to the miles of lace I posses (5 yards/dollar = lace for life) with black thread.

this is a text only. sorry.

i've been swimming in the memories looking for ideas and the problem with the memories is you get hit with a TON of ideas about the same project and it gets overwhelming.

my problem is i wanted to make one of those rice warming fabric pouches. with flax seed. everyone was saying to use fleece so i bought some. then i went back to find some other details and found a post saying DON'T use fleece because it melts. (made from plastic?)

so. what are people's experiences with fleece and microwaves, since it seems a lot of you use fleece. and if i can't use fleece for this what can i use it for. i got a yard of fruity fleece and would hate for it to go to waste.

Hello
Does anyone on here have/have experiance of using a print gocco? I am struggling to find out info about these gadget - what the quality is like, how they work, how easy they are to use etc

Any help?

Flaxseed?

Anybody have a good, up-to-date online source for wholesale flaxseed? I know a wholesale health food place would be best, but there are none near me.
And someplace that won't kill me on shipping would be nice. The last place I ordered from charged $18.65 (S&H) for a 10# package, and the sticker on the outside of the box was just $4.45...

new skirt!

Yay!!  New skirt...

Es moi, wearing my new skirt.  I realize the picture's sort of difficult to see, but...the top blue band is stretchy denim which came from a shirt, so do not fear.  This is a tee shirt reconstruction.  The black part is nine panels sewn together.  That design was inspired by this tutorial.  There's a little denim flower on the bottom.  It has about eight different layers and its 'petals' are rounded.  It's got a big wooden button on top of it and two cream-colored little leaves poking out.  It took a while to sew around the flower to save its shape from the immense gravitational force...

At first I was going to sew down the seams on the outside for decoration with pink thread, but I decided against it.  I like it this way...:)

another question:

no one answered my previous entry so i thought i'd try again. as i wrote before i'm doing this kind of selfpromotional assignment and i wanted to incorporate some crafty elements into it. i settled on making a small plush set (and a small notepad) to hand out to people, though i was debating making each thing a handwarmer for people in the wintertime (except just reading a recent discussion here makes me think my stiff decision to use things like robe velour and velvet might not go so well in a microwave...)

so anyway i was thinking of making a 'suitcase' for the pieces, except that i don't want to buy one of those paintable wooden ones i think they make. so what i was wondering was if anyone had any ideas to accomplish this. i figured i could maybe draft one out of thick colored cardstock and maybe have it close with velcro tabs. maybe make little travel stickers to go on the outside (do they sell these?) and then silkscreen a drawing of mine on the inside like a fabric lining. but then there's the mess of how to put the fabric toys inside? i thought maybe those little twist ties for bread, or else perhaps stretch elastic sewn into the box? does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about this?

also if anyone has any links to making boxes/ paper or cardboard containers at all, i'd love to see them as inspiration.

thanks all in advance, and happy holidays!

I'm making a record clock and I need a short quote to go somewhere in the middle. There are going to be stars for the numbers and it's gonna be black and red. Just something short and sweet. OR should i just leave it with stars and nothing else on it?

EDIT: lyrics would be nice too. If you give me anything please tell me who its by

How do you scent wax? I'm going to make some sushi candles for my friend for his birthday, but I want them to smell pretty.
Thanks!

I was wondering..is there anyway to scent beeswax?
Would I be able to like rub the oil on and then it'd absorb into it?
And what kind of oil would I use?

My little cousins are moving back to Canada in January. They weren't in need of hats and scarves out in California, so I thought I'd make them some.

I almost positive I saw a similar hat on the web somewhere, but of course I couldn't find it when I set my mind on making my own. So I searched for a plain hat pattern that I liked, and winged the rest of the details.

The plan is to make each one with a different colored bow, and matching scarf. I'm so pleased with how this one turned out...it's toooooooooo cute!

Soooooooooooo cute! )

Hi crafty folks!
I was wondering if any of you have bought homemade chunky funky wooly yarn via the internet? I've seen some beautiful ones posted on on various LJ communities before (kool-aid colours, hand-spun, hand-dyed, crazy textures, sparkly threads, etc) and now I actually want to buy some for a couple small projects but I don't have any links!
Do you have any hand-made yarn sellers to reccomend? I especially would like to buy from an independant female-owned small craftsperson.
If you have any to reccomend in Canada, that would be especially nice because then the price would be cheaper for me, especially the shipping. But if the yarn is really beautiful, then I'd be happy to buy from outside of Canada.

(x-posted a little bit)

This purse is dark blue (though the pictures are deceiving).  Those words say "My heart bleeds thread" and the little pink thing is a heart-sewing machine.  The blue fabric was once a t-shirt and now I've made it perdy.

It's about one foot by 8 inches and is lined with tweed-like brown/burgundy.

Okay folks,

I know a bunch of you out there, like many of my friends and family are knitters.
I can't knit (believe me, I've tried) but am a pretty nifty spinner. (Yes, I have a spinningwheel - just call me "Amish in the City")
So, I figured that this year for xmas I'd give all my knit-happy friends and family handspun yarn. Of course, I have no idea how to package/wrap yarn in a clever fashion. And should I include needles with the yarn (my yarn tends to be a bit thicker than machine made)?

Any advice? What, as a knitter, would you like to get for xmas?
[identity profile] sabriel333.livejournal.com
hey, sorry for the boring text only post, but I'm kinda stuck and I was hoping some of you brilliant people out there might help me brainstorm some ideas. See, one of my friends was in an accident over the weekend, and is in the hospital right now, so I thought I'd make him a "hospital survival kit" to cheer him up. I figured munchies would be good (to tide him over with the hospital food :P) and maybe comic books or something like that if he gets bored. Beyond that, I'm kinda at a loss. Anybody have any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

My bestfriend's birthday is coming up soon, **She's on the right** And I want to make her a scrapbook of the years that we have been bestfriends. I have all of the pictures and notes and cards and things that bring back memories of us that I want to put in, and I think it will turn out to be something that she loves.. I've made scrapbooks before, and my mom is really into it so she has tons of stuff to decorate the books with, but I don't want this to just be another old scrapbook.. I want it to be really unique and exciting, just something that's really going to wow her, because she deserves it.
Anyone have any ideas that will make it extra special?
muchas gracias.
[identity profile] manicdoll-.livejournal.com
I love reading, so I have quite a few books. I am trying to collect all the books that Agatha Christie wrote, and these are in paperback, so they're not very heavy.
My two kitties have a thing for sleeping in the bookcase, but they're quite clumsy, just like their father before them, so they often knock down books and mess stuff up.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make your own bookstand(s)?
It has to be medium-ly heavy, since the kitties are over 6 months now, so they're not as light as they used to be :)
But nothing TOO complicated! I recently just got into crafting, so I don't think I've really created anything yet.. still a newbie :)

I checked the memories hoping to find help, but I had no luck. I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about stencilling onto backpacks. It's just a Jansport.. standard material, nothing fancy. I've stencilled clothing before, of course, but since backpack material is so different from anything else I've stencilled on before, I thought I'd check with the experts before doing anything.

Any input would be appreciated, and if this has already been asked or something, I'll be happy to remove it.

I made this a while ago, but have been slacking on my photo development, since i don't have a digital yet...

i have a really weird spidey fetish, and this was a smash hit at my college. It's actually all one piece of plain cotton fabric from Wal-Mart, and I didn't use a pattern or anything. I sized it to myself and used red lace for a drawstring. It's held up through a lot of washings. Just thought i'd share!
