I looked in the memories and didn't see anything about this. sorry for the no-image post. I really need some help.

I got a recipe box for xmas that is REALLY ugly. I was thinking about decorating it like an aol or altoids tin but when I have decorated those in the past I've had trouble.

When I spray paint or decoupage them they don't want to close correctly. The layers make them thicker and sometimes it just sticks closed. any tips on what I can do to prevent this or some other ideas for decoration?

i had the brilliant idea of making a "charm" bracelet for myself without any dangling charms. just using jem glue to stick printed images to clear beads and then stick beads to bracelet...of course, having printed the images with an inkjet printer the glue made the images a little blurry so i'm looking for insight on how to keep that from happening. should i have sprayed my paper with fixative? i'm willing to try again tomorrow night and will put a pic up there even if it is of my runny bracelet

I found these great seashells that I want to make into earrings, but I've never done anything like that before. They already have holes in them, naturally, so I won't have a problem with that, but I was wondering if anybody could answer two things for me:

1. What's a good way to varnish or protect the seashells? Clear nail polish? Watered-down glue?

2. Where can I find the hanging earring hooks? There's a Michael's and a Jo-Ann's nearby but I can't easily get to a Pearl until break is over and I get back to my dorm.

Thanks everybody!

Hello All -
I finally collected all 7 quilts (to date) in one gallery:
http://www.loosetooth.com/Art/Gallery/Quilts/index.htm

Mid-December, I made my mom a quilt for Christmas, and the next day I made one for myself. I was curious how long it really takes me to make a polar-fleece-backed lap quilts, so I timed making mine. Nine hours for mine, took a picture every hour. And now that mom got her quilt, I could make the gallery.

Started the eigth quilt on Christmas day, but I maxed out my machine. It's getting a tune up tomorrow. :)

Please comment, and lemmeno if you've got a favorite!

I read the FAQs and I think it's OK to post this here.

I just started a new community for artists and craftspeople called [livejournal.com profile] creative_spaces. It's a place to discuss our studios and workspaces, and issues relating to them, like storage and organization. I hope you'll join us!

I got Stitch 'n Bitch Nation for Christmas (and a digital camera... so I'm going a little crazy). I'm making the poster boy bag (pg 164), but I'm doing panels rather than knitting in the round (cuz I don't know how!).

Here's how it looks so far: Right hurrrr )

This is my first time with fairisle knitting, I don't do well with patterns (that's why it's upsidedown), but what is bothering me is that the stitches where I switch colors are really loose. I am twisting about every 5 as I carry my other color along in the back, but there are little gaps in my color switches.

Stitch 'n Bitch Nation has really great patterns, it was Christmas money well spent.

Thanks!

can anyone recommend any simple, cute sewing projects for newbies?

i just got a new dinky sewing machine and want to get acquainted with it, but we're snowed in so i'm limited to the small amount of fabric and supples i have inside the house.

any ideas would be appreciated! thanks loves =)

I hate to do this, but I need some help.

You see, I made this scarf for my mom for Christmas. But I made it on smaller needles and with acrylic yarn because I'm cheap. Well, it rolled like crazy and look crappy. So I thought I might make it on circular needles. Which wouldn't be bad except for the fact that it's got a little pattern in it. When knitting on straight needles, I can just follow the pattern, but knitting in the round is a little different.

So, how would I do garter stitch in the round? That would be alternating knit and purl correct?

As for the pattern it is:
knit 32
knit 32
knit 32
knit 4 purl 24 knit 4
knit 32
knit 32
... how would I do that in the round and have it look right?

Any help would be appreciated. I'd post pics, but my camera is 4 hours away. And the scarf that's done looks like crap.

Help!

Ok, I'm freaking out because a little while back someone posted this super awesome tutorial on how to make a skirt out of a t-shirt. I don't believe there was any sewing involved either. (Though I could be wrong.) I've spent the last HOUR looking for it and I can't seem to find it!

Anyone know where it is?!

Thanks! ;)

I'm planning to host a fabric swap at my house next week. I've invited a lot of my local friends to bring all their unloved fabric in the hopes of finding it a new home.

Has anyone here ever done this? How did it go? Did you impose any rules or just -- "take what you want"?

Here are photos of some of the rest of my Christmas craftiness...

We have way too many scarves at the house. )

Now all I have left to do is finish some minor alterations and then I'm back to selfishly crafting whatever the hell I want!

Hey, I made this scarf from the pattern off of the casual cotn blend skein of yarn. I liked the way it turned out!!!!!!!! essentially it was two dc's crossed. :)

because i'm the MEANEST sister in the entire world, i made my brother model the scarf. he does not believe that scarves, yet alone scarves with FRINGE, are meant to be worn by him.

So I was cleaning out a closet and I found my mom's old sewing machine. The only problem is, there's no instructions of any kind.

I know this is kind of a long shot, but does anyone happen to have a Brother VX710? If so, would it be possible for you to provide me with an extremely, EXTREMELY detailed explaination (I'm a real moron) of how to thread it and get it going?

I made this box for my mom's birthday, which happens to fall on the day after Christmas. Box + paint + die-cast cutouts are all from Michael's. It was wildly successful, partially due to the fact that Mom loves Paris, and partially due to the fact that I filled the box with candy. :) Mom loved it so much that she wants an American-themed one for Mother's Day.

Cute retro Parisian goodness behind here. +3 )
