I checked the memory, & I couldn't find anything like this, so I'm going to ask

Does anyone know where I can get a free Kimono pattern? I want to make one for Hallowe'en :D

these is craft related, i swear! it has to do with my craft site (which i won't be sharing the name of because 1- it's not done & 2- i'd probably get in trouble with the mod).

so, let me ask you this question. how would one go about getting their site to show up on google? i know there's a special html code, but what is it & do you just put it in the coding for the index page or all the pages? what i mean is, if someone were to type "handmade birdie purse" or something like that, how would i get my site & a description to show up as one of the first sites on a google search?

anyone? anyone? bueller?

I cannot stress how perfectly my stencils came out when I printed them on a manila file folder.

I taped a regular ol' sheet-o-paper to the folder and cut the manila folder to the correct size, put my folder paper in the printer and viola!
I wish I had used them earlier, it was so much easier to cut and get clean lines, and the paper is much sturdier than what I was using before.

Thanks to whoever gave me the idea.

Have you ever had the problem of too many projects going on at once? I have so many it's hard to choose what to work on next! I'll have more pictures later (it's spring break -> more crafting time!)

Alrighty. My kitty Cookie has taken over the cat tree, and poor old Poe doesn't have a comphy place to sleep anymore. I'd like to make her a kitty bed, but I don't really know where to start. I checked the memories and didn't find anything useful. Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm really too lazy to go back to finding the entry I just commented on. For the person who was asking about super glue remover, this is what I was talking about. It works very well and I bought it for about 3 bucks at Home Depot.

Hello! I was browsing through here a little bit last night and thought that it's a great community :)
I noticed [livejournal.com profile] j9crafts's post with the Altoids tin, and thought that maybe she got it from Bust magazine, as I did. Apparently she did not ;p

Either way, here it is. The present that I made for my boyfriend last Christmas :)

I made this totoro last night. I didn't really like how he turned out so I gave him to my cat as a toy.

Made these two custom pillows at the request of a friend, they are intended for his itty-bitty daughters Phoebe and Pearl. (I actually made Phoebe's a couple years ago when she was born, and he decided he wanted one for Pearl, the newcomer.) The bee is from an Aunt Martha pattern (with some embellishments, natch), the mermaid is just something I made up as I went along. I think they came out pretty cute, and my daddy-pal thrilled. Phew. I'm just glad to be done!

hi, i'm new here and i recently came to aquire several million old aprons by way of my wonderful friends. they are mostly 50s-70s floral patterns in ranging lengths from mid-thigh to knee. some have the top pieces and some don't. one one goes all the way around my back (aka able to make into a skirt). some will go to the costume closet at my school's drama program (the ('silent' or not loud) ones suitable for plays), one is becoming a skirt as soon as i get a zipper, but the others... i'll use the darkest (or perhaps loudest) one for play nights so i finally don't get make-up on my outfit.

but any suggestions besides wearing them to cement my maid image? i'd love any suggestion.

This group is so inspired and creative. I love seeing what people come up with. That's why I'm asking for help.
My bedroom is very, VERY bland right now. I've still got my old milk crates from college holding my books, CDs and my writing.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I could do with the writing stuff? I've got old essays, stories, notebook paper etc. and I don't want to just shove it in the closet or under the bed, yet I don't want to have milk crates filled to the brim with paper set out. I want to be able to have it at my fingertips whenever I'm feeling nostalgic and want to read my old stuff. And since my room is beige right now (carpet, walls, furniture), I would love to have something with color. TIA

I make reconstructed clothing (primarily women's at the moment), and I sell them through a local boutique and the occasional craft fair. One thing I make is reconstructed denim skirts (examples can be seen here), and I've been thinking about making the same kinds of skirts but in kid's sizes. The only thing is, I don't know how well they would sell or where I would try to sell them at. I'm working on getting a website set up, but I'm not planning on selling directly through it at first, as right now I'm concentrating on getting my stuff in more local boutiques. I'm not sure if any local kid's clothing stores would be willing to take reconstructed garments or not; I haven't checked yet.

Does anyone have experience with something similar? Or, if you have young daughters, would you buy similar skirts for your daughter? If so, how much would you be wiling to pay? Any advice?

i whole-heartedly suggest using size 7 needles instead of the recommended size 8 ndls in the pattern. i gave it a little twist w/ embroidered chain stitches.

Earrings are my latest love... Still a while to go before they're commercial grade of course (have been having a great time investigating the use of round-nosed pliers!) but they're nice for family and friends and to occupy the hands in front of the TV.

At the moment they're just cheap and nasty beads, but I will graduate eventually.

Have recently bought a heap of jump rings, better chains and some bell caps to work in somewhere - maybe even on larger hoops so there can be a whole 'mess' of stuff hanging from them. Should be fun.

I got my first Sculpey the other day & covered a candy tin with a curly tree design. I really like how it turned out, and can tell I have missed working with clay!

It was done in white clay & painted with acrylics ~ the tin is one of the small ones, about 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. The background is acutally all textured, which you can kind of see in the first pic ~ Here it is unpainted & then painted:

Now I wish I had kept more tins over time!

Has anyone made the "London Calling" Union Jack sweater from StichNBitch Nation? And if you have, would you say that it's very difficult? Because I haven't made anything more complicated than seed stitch and increasing and decreasing on scarves before...it says you need intarsia, whatever that is.

I got a small bead kit for my birthday on Friday, and there are these long metal almost pin like things... what are they? What do I use them for? I have a bad camera, but it looks sort of like this )

Aside from that, I made these )

Thanks for any pin help :)

My mother's birthday is coming up, so along with the pentacle shawl i'm making her, i wanted to make her some unique earrings.  She's starting to explore the world of dangly/larger earrings, as opposed to the little studs she's used to wearing.

I wanted to make something personalized for her, so i took her favorite picture of my father and turned it into earrings...

My dad, the hippy... )

I made a huge post earlier of crafts... now it's time for the end of the day recap of what I've done.

1) made some earrings

2) made a book

3)made a notecard

4)made a tshirt

5) didn't die.

totally rocking out )
I also had a question for you fine folks. Has anything I've made struck your fancy as something you'd buy? My sis is trying to get me to sell my things, and I'm still leary. I love making things for friends and family, I don't know how profitable it'd be to sell the things I've made. So, any input on what is good for selling and what is bad for selling would be appreciated.

I might as well post something for once.

I made a skirt, out of a pillowcase bought at a thrift shop, and an old t-shirt.

One night my friend was spending the night, and I got really bored. So I whipped out my trusty knitting needles, and made a scarf. There's also a shirt I spray painted with that neon spray paint. It's actually really cool.

I've been creative lately! )

So I finally finished my first four square quilt. Except for the cutting, I really enjoyed the experience. The quilt was named "Starry night" and donated to Project Linus, as well as entered in a raffle contest at Stiches Etc. in Jacksonville. My aunt was very patient in teaching my Polish ass ^_^

I have a typical cork board that's perfectly fine all but the fact that it's that not-so-pretty cork board color. I want to paint the wood framing, but I'd also like to get the cork part black too. I don't think a regular acrylic paint would work without maybe adding a textile medium. I was thinking I could use the screen printing ink I have, but I don't know if that would hold up either. Maybe just a regular ink that would soak in and dye the cork?

Does anyone have any experience with this or is it hopeless that I'll end up coloring it in with a Sharpie?

How could one go about making these teacup/wine glass hybrids? All I found in the mem's were posts about etching and what-not... (*the cup by Gwen's hand)
[identity profile] kitschy-koo.livejournal.com
I hope this is okay to post here. so, I posted something on craigslist in an attempt to get free supplies to try out new crafts. a girl answered who has beading stuff and she offered the following for $25:

Blue topaz & aquamarine briollettes
Strand of rose quartz
Turqoise rounds
Pink freshwater pearls
Large bluestone (awesome)
Round purple & tan mother of pearl
Rectangle mother of pearl
Tan suede cord
Pink silk cord
Soft flex wire cord
Elastic cord
Silver & Bronze O rings
Silver rods w/ ball ends
Long silver rods
Silver toggle clasps
Gold and bronze clasps
Silver and gold end clamps
2 pair gypsy earrings
1 pair and 1 single hook earrings
Silver ribbon
Bead threaders
Assorted glass beads (white, blue, green balls, white, green, black stars)
Brown suede flat cord (scrap)

I know it's a long list, but then since I know nothing about beading and how much the supplies cost, I can't tell if I am getting a good deal, esp considering that I originally didn't really want to pay any $$ at all for stuff, cheapo that I am. what do you guys think? should I take her up on this offer or just find a bead place and get to pick out the things I like??

EDITED to add: she claims to have spent over $200 for this stuff, and $15 on the spool of elastic cord alone.

I finally finished one of the hot pink convertible mittens I designed. Now, I just have to do the one for the right hand.
