My boyfriend's niece had her second birthday celebration today and I worked right up until the last minute finishing this thing. Remind me that cross-stitching doesn't go fast.

And here's the birthday girl being smiley about her "appee urday":

Where do you guys buy your felt? Or do you dye it yourself? All I can seem to find are basic primary colors. Suggestions?

I know for a fact that people on this community will appreciate how totally awesome these books are. bserve:

- felt little thing pattern book: awesomely cute little thing made out of wool roving

- fabric floral pattern corsage embellishments: exactly as the title says. way way cute.
- Making FELT Doll and Stuffed Animal Toy Making Guide & Pattern Book: awesomely cute little dolls made out of felt
- Guide to handmade Bead Animal Mascot: THEY'RE AMAZING! AND BEADED!!
- Hello Kitty FELT Mascot & Goods Craft Pattern Book: hands down, the most amazing thind i have ever seen

yeah, i definately have too much time on my hands. i really really want the "felt little things" pattern book. it looks so awesome. i doubt that i'd have to know how to read japanese either, because they look liek they have tons of pictures.

a note: these are not my auctions and i am not affiliated with the sellers. i just wanted to show the link to people on here, so please don't yell at me, because i know the rules.

Hello all,

I'm working feverishly toward a show in June. My sales these last two weekends were good, and I noticed that my keychains made up the majority of said sales so I'm thinking I will focus on them more.

I'm looking for professional display for these. I've seen rotating necklace displays with T bars, but would this be feasible for a one sided piece? Are people willing to actually search through rows of things, and in the end have to remove the entire row to get the one they want??

I'm hoping I'm making sense with this...I'm thinking something where each could be seen and removed individually is the way to go..but I want something more than just laying them on the tables. Thank you!

Hello Ladies...and Gents,

This question doesn't really pertain too much to crafting...but you're all so good at answering questions that I thought I'd give it a shot:
I have a flat iron with ceramic plates that I use almost every day. The plates are starting to look sort of scary from the hair products that are getting burned on to it. I would really like to clean it, but I don't know what to use???

Any suggestions? My roommate said just to scrub it in soapy water, but it's an electronic device and that just doesn't seem like it would go over well with the wires and whatnot.

Thanks in advance for all your help! And if this shouldn't be here I'll delete it :(

For Easter weekend, I decided to redecorate my bedroom. I painted and made new curtains :) The curtains aren't terribly complicated but I love how the colors ended up looking together. I got the fabric at a home decorator fabric store for $9/yd. More than I usually would pay, but it's nice stuff. I only have one set of curtains up since one wall was still drying when I took the picture. The other curtains are the same except have the pink and the green switched around...just to mix it up a little and evenly use the yard of each accent color that I had gotten.

I chose the curtain and wall colors to match the duvet cover and sheets I got at Target.

Picture! )

And if you're interested in the before picture, you can go here to see it in my journal.

Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I purchased our first home and will be moving in at the end of April. It's a brand new house which means it's a complete blank slate and we have lots and lots to buy. I'm looking to make most of the window treatments myself to save some money (hopefully). Does anyone have any good links for information on this? I found a couple of sites already for making basic tab curtains, etc, just by googling but figured I may get some better help here. Thanks so much!

So I just discovered that I'm going to college next year (total shock, I was really not expecting it...it's a long story.) Anyway I'm looking around for really fun and snazzy comforters/duvet covers, etc. I've looked at all the usual places (Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Linens 'N' Things, Delia*s, Urban Outfitters, anyplace I can think of) for something along those lines. I'm beginning to think the best bet is for me to make my own...

How the heck do I go about making a duvet cover? (I'm pretty much a rank beginner.) Any ideas for the duvet cover itself (when/if I make it?) And any ideas of any other places to look for vibrant, exciting bedding before I flog myself into submission and start this duvet cover?

Dudes -

I purchased this wondrous machine a few years ago (check it out!)

http://store.yahoo.com/creativekidstuff/badgefactory.html

I am looking for anyone who also has this machine and has dealt with its suckitude ratio.
For example For every 100% solid, kickin' button/pin I turn out - I also turn out 5 that wholly bite. My current greatitude ratio then is 1 of 6. That is almost not worth my time - also it is a waste of my precious supplies.

The machine isn't complicated - it is after all built for children - but it is super cheap and was a good way to get some buttons made without spending much. Until now, I have felt the machine was useful. Until now, I thought my awesomeitude ratio was in the 1 of 2 range or the 1 out of 3 or 4 range.

Anyone have any hints for using this? If you haven't used the machine, or don't know what it is - read the description - but, no offense, you probably can't help me.

I am hesitant to recommend this "toy" at this point , so don't go like buying it all up and stuff - but I have gotten some good things out of it.

Peace out!
Thanks in advance!

I made a necklace just now. Still deciding if I like it.
Glass beads, leather cord, silver wire to bind and a silver clasp in the back. Yes, it's supposed to hang off-kilter.
I'm sharing a table at the public market this summer, and I'm trying to develop a line of bright, simple things.

edit: golly; thanks! you're all so kind! i want to respond individually but i need to get to bed. :(

Hi. I've been watching this community for a while, and I finally decided to join. I don't have very many crafts to post, mainly because i'm still finishing them. I do however have some shoes for you. I hope you enjoy them.

I think i've found my better half )

hey, sorry this is text only. when my roommate gets back tonight with her digicam i'll ask to take some pics.

so question: i have a bunch of paper cranes i've been working on to decorate my dorm room NEXT semester. i'm going to be making a ton more. i would like to hang these in mobiles from the ceiling, or other such places. any ideas as to put them on strings? i was thinking perhaps some ribbon, as it is cheap, and i am poor. are there any ways i could embellish them? any ideas on other ways to display them? the room wont have a japanese theme to it or anything, but that could be worked in somehow... any ideas?

i'm excited to have so much time to think of ideas to decorate! it pays to plan early!

if you are interested in making paper cranes yourself, i recommend this site: http://www.sadako.com/fold/folding.html

So, basically I've only used a sewing machine roughly twice in my entire life.

But I recently discovered an affinity for circle skirts. And I'm fairly short, so none of the ones in the stores do anything beyond making me look pretty stumpy.

And they seem easy enough to make.

Except I can't sew and I don't have a sewing machine. I googled some, and hotdamn, those are pricey suckers. Can anyone recommend at good, cheap (under $50....if possible) sewing machine for a beginner? I'm not interested in anything too hard as far as sewing goes...

EDITTED! I got a hold of some amigurumi patterns (japanese crocheted stuffed toys) and my friend Tek (who studies Japanese & lived in Japan for over a year) was able to do some translations of the amigurumi patterns for me. While we weren't able to decipher everything, I had a rough idea of what to do. I used regular 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn and a Size H crochet hook for this project, as well as poly-fil to stuff it. I don't know what the pattern calls for. I also had to modify the pattern a bit because I didn't understand the charts to make the glasses, and the scarf was too long for my taste (130 stitches!) so I shortened it to about 45 or so.

Well, enough chit chat. Meet love love panda!

and searched... and searched some more....

so I come to you, with a now foggy brain (from reading through so many diffrent sites that are just not what I am looking for) to ask the simplest question in the world....

I need a fleece bunny ear hat pattern.. sew, no sew...whatever you got, I will take it, cause I am not finding what I am wanting by searching... I want the ears to have the wire stuff in them so they can be movable... Help please.

thanks.

I want to buy a roll of watercolor paper but the ones I've seen so far are around $150 for a 10yd roll. Does anyone have any idea where I can get inexpensive roll?

Stopper?

I hope this is crafty enough, cause I thought you guys would be able to give the best ideas...

Well, I'm making a flute out of PVC pipe (the white plastic plumbing pipe stuff) for a science project. First I made one out of pipe that had a hole diameter of 3/4 inch. The flute has to have a stopper of some sort at one end to direct the air flow toward the other end. I was using a rubber cork from some sort of Australian champaigne as the stopper before...

But that flute took a LOT of air to make it work, since it was so wide, and it required so much air. So I made a new one out of PVC pipe with only 1/2 inch diameter. Now, however, I can't seem to find any corks that are the right size for a stopper...

Does anyone have any ideas for what I can use to stick in one end of the pipe that will make an airtight or almost airtight seal that is 1/2 inch wide? Thanks :)

you may remember i was going to make my friend a conor oberst doll for her birthday. i thought about it, and really wanted to do it, but decided against it, since i'd never done it before and didn't feel like fiddling around and trying to work out how to make it.

instead i made this. )

Oh, I'm so ready for spring to get here. Until then, cabin fever is producing some okay crafty creations. Wanna take a look?

Arg. This heart 'n' bones number might even win over a pirate's ticker. (If [s]he were blind. Heh.) One of my first entirely handmade bags in a while.

But wait! There's more bags to be had! )

i have a bit of a problem and who else but the craftiest of the crafty to ask!

i have a poster that is a weird size. its 26x36. all the frames i have found are 24x36. i dont want to poke holes or put sticky stuff on it so i thought about making a frame. i live in an apartment, only have screwdrivers, a hammer, a hotglue gun and a sewing machine. i thought about making one from vinyl and carboard and thick lace as a border but im not sure if that would work so well. im a poor college kid and dont want to go buy supplies and them not work.

help me! any ideas are greatly appreciated!

I would like to make a gun that shoots Marshmallow Peeps. Kind of like a potato gun.

Don't ask why. It just has to be done. I want to make the Peeps go *splat* against the side of a building.

I have a year. I'm assembling this entirely from scratch, and I also plan to make it pretty, so I count it as a craft project. Mods, feel free to delete this post if you think otherwise. But dangit, I will have my glittery yellow Peep gun!

One of my friends knows someone who knows someone who made something similar out of PVC pipe and other bits, but he didn't have specifics for me. Frankly, I'm not 100% sure where to start. Have any of you tried something like this before? Creating a functional object like this by hand? If so, can you share any tips?

Just so this post isn't text-only, here are some arm warmers and a scarf I made from leftover pajama flannel. The PJ pants turned out horribly (they were for a beginner's sewing class), but I like what became of the scraps. I'm not a huge fan of pink, but this fabric makes me smile.

Pastel ducks go quack. )

Hopefully this is something you guys can help me with (yes, I checked the memories :D ):

I have more than a few band shirts that I don't where anymore. Originally I wanted to reconstruct them into different styled shirts, then I thought about making them into purses/totes, but now neither of these ideas are appealing to me.

So my question is, what would you guys suggest doing with old band shirts ?

Thanks.

I've been working on this pillowcase for a week or so for my boy. I need a little help. I want to put some more detail into the stingray. he's kinda boring. Maybe some waves or something or color him in? I can't decide. I'm not sure how I would make waves without it looking stupid. lots o pictures )

I crafted up new jewelry tonight... Okay, so a couple of the sets I have had for a while now but hadn't gotten a photo of yet. Not that these photos are very good... Damn, crap lighting that I have in my apartment. Anyway most of it is pretty simplistic, in design anyway, but I like them for that reason.
