So this is the shirt I made Tuesday really quickly cos I wanted something different to wear when I was going to hang out with some other people.

The word "Love" is red ribbon woven in and out of the shirt material itself.

i need tips on adding hair to cloth dolls made of muslin.
does anyone have any tutorials or explanations of various ways of doing this (sewing/gluing/etc)?
i'm thinking of using generic doll hair from craft stores or yarn. any other suggestions would be great. thanks!

Hi, this is my first post here and I am loving seeing all the projects.  A little envious of everyone's skills, too..

I do needlework and am wondering what the rules are and people's experience with bringing stitching tools (needles, embroidery scissors) on airplanes?  I'm mainly worried about my scissors, which are very small, sharp, and precise.  Will they be confiscated if I try to bring them on an airplane?

TIA.

I have looked all through the memories but can't find any useful hints on turning a bra into a bag.

I've got a really cute balconate style bra (this one) that is just too small and thought about turning it into a bag; i've seen shops sell corset style bags but a bra would be fun hehe.

So any links or tips are appreciated as I'm not quite sure how to start it! xx

Hi there...

I'm wondering if any of you crafty girls who are in college have found a way to bring their sewing with them... (without resorting to handsewing... because I'm awful at that..)

I'm dorming for the first time this year, and am wondering if I'm going to have to abandon all my sewing projects and stick to crochet and such while I'm there...

The head of the costume shop at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (my school) has this huge costume website, Costumes.org, and on it there's a section called Dumpster Diver Decor, about all the weird crafts projects she and her hetrosexual life partner do. They turned their house into a "gothic Adams Family gingerbread house," did bizarre computer mods, made all their windows and light fixtures faux stained glass, and painted their minivan vaguely like the Northern Lights:

It's a wonderful site, and there's some great projects on it. She's also got great tips on faking creativity, mental aerobics (dada calisthenics is my favorite. I actually an 'Alaskan lei' to an Oscar-winning actress a few years ago because of it. She wouldn't le me actually put it on her because she didn't want the ice to melt and get her blouse wet), and making 'pet the bunny' artist portfolios.

I looked in the memories for things to do with the marbles from the marble magnets that are not magnets... but there was only runes, table, and coster.

WHat could I make with the marbles besides magnets? I was thinking maybe do the picture on the back (printed on paper not from magazines) then glue to the outside of a votive. So when the candle was lit the pictures would light up. Or do the picture thing but put thick cardstock on the back with a wire sandwiched inbetween to make a pendent and or earrings.

Any other ideas?

yaaaaay

for some reason, every time i was about to bid on a sewing machine, my power would go out. its been doing this for the past 3 days! but today, i found one that was nicely priced so i snatched it up! i bought This sewing machine :) i'm excited. i guess it was meant for me to find this one. it was $75 because the shipping was $20. it was a floor model i think. anyway, i've got a question. to all of sewers, did you teach yourself, or did you take classes? i really want to teach myself but what do you think? i've taught myself how to do other crafty things like making jewelry, i do that pretty well, but i'm not sure about sewing. are there any good books you reccomend?

thanks so much everybody for giving me advice, you've helped me SO much!

Another supersoft merino yarn. 2.7 ounces, thick and thin, 70 yards. There's more variation in the skein than the photo shows. I'm going to have to get some better photos...

More yarn here )

Getting into the bath the other day, I found that I had a sequin between my toes. Right now, I have a lot of glitter all over everything.

Do you all find craft stuff in obscure places?

I totally love it!

I also swear that one day, instead of commenting on everyone else's posts I'll post some crafties of my own. Just not satisfied enough with anything I've made to post.

here's a story:

a few months ago, i saw a gorgeous and wonderful dress in the window at nordstrom. it was black and sleeveless with orchestra instruments printed on it in dark yellow. they were big. there was a violin and a trumpet or possibly a coronet and probably other ones on the back. the violin was the main part that made gush--most of it was on the skirt with the neck going up one of the straps, asymmetrically.

i went inside and asked the lady in haute couture how much it was and she said something crazybrained like 1400 dollars! then i had to stand there while she blabbed about how the designer makes the fabric herself and there are only ten dresses like this and they don't have it in my size but they could have one sent over from new york and i was like, pfff.

so i bought this dress on sale at the GAP for $20 yesterday.

then i made my own free-acking violin dress.

Some of my crafty adventures from the recent months.

If you have dial up I'm sorry there are a lot of pics but they aren't too big I don't suppose.

First off, this is my new skirt that I absolutely love. I paid $30 for it which is really unlike me. I bought it to wear when I go get my hubby from the airport. I'm off tomorrow to find a shirt and shoes for it. If anyone has any idea what kind of pattern I would need to find to make one like this let me know. I mean I don't really know what style it would be considered but I would love to make one like it.

More here of random stuff )
Oh my I think that is it.
I have one more kitty hat to make that I am awaiting payment for and then I will be done with all orders. Yay me.
Oh wait I still have to bead the fun fur curtian, but that should be it.
:)
Enjoy everyone.

So.
My mom just got out of a major back surgury last night and I'll be seeing her on Sunday.
This is her eighth operation for this, and I want to make her something about being strong/staying positive, as she's been the past 20 years she's dealt with it.

But I don't know what. I want to make something cute, but I'm not coming up with anything.
I'll only have about a day to make it, and I'm not very good at crafty stuff other than stencilling on fabric and making little stuffed felt things.

Any ideas are appreciated!

how to do this http://www.greenfeet.com/vinylux-record-bowl.html has vexed me for quite a while.

then tonight, i remembered my heat gun. so my question of the weekend is: do you think a heat gun would work to aid in making a record bowl. i'm thinking it would be a bonus to only heat certain parts at a time, thinking i could work the shape by oven-mitted hands.

thoughts?

thanks

Foamy like the seaaaa

I'm sure this is no big deal to you guys (you all produce so much amazing stuff!), but I just finished this scarf I was making for my grandma in the Seafoam stitch. It is my second knitting project ever. Now I really need to find a *new* project (preferably something that isn't scarfy.) But I am scared. Heh. Any suggestions for a frightened beginner?

Anyway, I guess the picture is kinda crappy but you can get the basic idea of how the stitch looks and all that.

Has anyone ever tried to alter a bra to fit? I know that you can buy things to make them bigger (extenders and such), but how about smaller? Particularly the band size and the straps...

Or does anyone know where I can find bras that are a size 32D. (I've been measured at a few different stores and apparently, that is my size. Unfortunatly, they've all told me "thats a hard size to find!" and "good luck")
