So I made another attempt at this bag:
http://www.crochetme.com/Feb_Mar_2005/patt_fleuri.html
I think I like this one a lot better then the last one.
What I did was change the colors a little. I did the background in the light purple (double strands) and I did the flower in white (double strands)
I added 2 more rows and instead of the wooden handles, I added a crocheted handle. Then I just crocheted another row to add more strength to the handle.
I believe the pattern calls for 9 rows and I did 11.
It is pretty sturdy I think. You won't be able to cary heavy stuff in it, but you could get away with your everyday stuff.

I like this one better because you can see the flower and it doesn't just blend into the background.
Yay for experimenting!

I was wondering if anyone's had any luck with the mold making compound made by Activa..it's just called Insta Mold, and I cannot get it to work properly. If noone's used it...are there any suggestions for other (cheap-ish) molds?

so i was bored. as usual. and made this fantastic little dilly.

i got bored around 4AM and realized i wasn't tired, so i started working on a flyer for my friend christie's birthday. if you saw the last ones i posted, this one is DIFFERENT. there was a band added and the location was changed, so i pretty much just redid it.

3 and a half hours of non stop work later, you get:

I'm not the first person to do this but here is my jeans-to-skirt creation. I made it from a pair of jeans I've worn and loved for 6 years. Finally, they got a hole in then right under the ass. I patched that up and gave them new life as this skirt. It's become my absolute favorite thing to wear.

I'm making a skirt with a drawstring top.

I've just realized that the sewing machine I'm using (belongs to my roommate's mother) doesn't have a button-hole making setting OR a zigzag stitch. Those were the only two ways I could think of making the opening for the string to come out of on the front of the skirt!
Any other ideas on how I could reinforce the openings for the drawstring? I don't want to just cut slits in the fabric.

In progress:

this is my second screen-printing effort:

it's simple, but i really like it.

This might be a dumb question, but how do you remove super glue?
I got some on the screen of my cellphone and I can't read the time. :(

Ronda was a sweet little kitty. Yes, very sweet indeed. Sadly, Ronda went missing, and was presumed lost, or roadkill. But no, Ronda was kidnapped. Kitty-snatched, cat-napped. You see, some one wanted to try and make a kitty-human, and so they needed some kitty parts. Ronda managed to escape after many hours of torture, but she would never be the same. She was...a zombie kitty now!

Sorry the pictures are a tad dark.
Oh, darling, your kitty guts are coming out of your stitching again... )

My daughter got this wooden thread spool that was modified with some nails to make the yarn rope you see there. I am not sure how to start it and my SIL is the one that knows, but we can't seem to stop her long enough to show us. Does anyone know how to do this? I am not even sure what the process is called and I really would love to help my daughter with it.

Thank you, in advance.

Edit:
There are four nails in the top of the spool if that helps.

Edit 2:
My husband was kind enough to reply to my post in my journal saying that even though we have been trying to figure this out he knew all along. Thank you so much for all the links and help. I am very greatful for it. Now I need to find a way to crochet my husband a box for him to stay in for a while so that we don't have to look at him until we aren't mad any more. hehe

does anyone have suggestions on how to use some old (fairly worthless) baseball cards...
i have about 5000 in my back room and want to put them to good old crafty use.

I haven't been too crafty lately and this is a bit late, but here is a cake I made for my girlfriend's birthday June 1st.

Every year, we make crazy cakes for each other. No ordinary cakes for us. :)

Wow!

I got massive responses in such a little time on my post and this is why I love all of these communities. People are so great and helpful. THank you so much for the help on the Knitting Spool or Knitting Loom as it is called both. I now have a name for it and also the instructions with a ton of sites to go to. You all are so great and helpful.

Now to get some help with my husband and his being a little more forthright with knowing how to do creative crafty things. :) hehe.

For anyone who's ever thought about painting/decorating their laptop, but hasn't wanted to mar an expensive piece of electronics... I bet these would make a decent canvas: http://www.skynmobile.com/

I'm pondering what might stick to them though, aside from maybe Sharpie.

For an event that normally has shirts made professionally, we were thinking of taking a different route. If we had every guest that wanted a shirt bring their own plain one with, we would use a stencil with a simple design/text (I'm thinking cut from overhead transparencies) and then spray painted on the shirst on the spot.

If my memory serves, I remember seeing people spray paint onto shirts before here. How long does that last? Is there a better way to quickly make shirts like this that I'm over looking? Is there a different "spray" sort of thing that would work better than paint?

Thank you all!

i really hate it when people ask dumb questions like this, but we all have our bad days, right?

i want to do a stencil on a t shirt. ive never done it before, but people on this community do it always and it seems fairly simple. the most common tools ive seen people use are paint and freezer paper.

now heres the stupid question.... )
ill post pics of stuff later today.
especially if someone helps me with this dilemma!

My little sister(10 years old) and I took a really old and nasty brown jewelry box and painted it! We had to strip the varnish first, that took forever and some brain cells. Total cost of project was about $5, $4 worth of supplies and the nail polish remover that I stole from my mom.

I'm sorry I asked. I didn't think it would tick everyone off, but I guess a few questions about a design is different than what I thought it was.

Now I feel like an idiot, and a thief to boot. I may be gone a while from this community.

OKAY!

I suppose I've been kind of busy as of late. What you'll find behind the cut:

-A very fuzzy teddy bear named Daisy (for my mum)

-A tube top made from a giant t-shirt

-A skirt and a matching bag made out of two shower curtain displays we were pitching at work

I'm trying to help my cousin find something like this. I thought if I just tossed this out here, then someone, somewhere might be able to "toss me a bone"!

x-posted & thanks for your help!!

The memories section is still, unfortunately down (I know.. just one more person to state the obvious), but this is... rather urgent, as the water for the project is "boiling" as we speak...

I'm trying to bend spoons into braclets, any ideas on HOW long I should leave the spoons in the water?

Thank you so much :D

I was reading the memories yesterday about how bleaching stretch jeans can destroy the spandex, causing them to get too big. I have a pair of stretch jeans that are 1% lycra -- will bleaching effect them?

I couldn't check the memories again, but I'm pretty sure this wasn't mentioned.

Thanks in advance!!

HEY guess what! i have another no-brainer that i can't seem to figure out!! and this one has to do with starbucks, too! omfg :O
this one's really simple though. i'm only asking because i don't want to make a shirt look dumb if i don't have to.
k so i ordered 57832156732 black and white polo shirts for work, because they were super cheap and i can spill coffee on them as much as i'd like. but the thing is, they have these dumb buttons on them that are... dumb. i'd like to paint them and make them NOT dumb. i'm not worried about getting paint on the shirt as much as i'm worried about it flaking off of the buttons while i'm at work or while they're in the wash or something.

so uh my question is, can i just use regular cheapy acrylic craft paints on plastic/acrylic buttons? (at least i think that's what they're made of... i've been wrong before. hard to believe, i know.)
I AM SORRYYYY for asking such a dumb question. like really. but my mom is of no assistance at the time and i'd rather have a little background knowledge before i go about cutesying up a shirt and having it turn out to be temporary. or whatever. thank you!!
(ps: memories are temporarily unavailable again, additionally soooooooooorry if this was already in there somewhere)

hi karen.

I need some advice...

I bought these shoes, and while I love the fabric I just feel they are too blue :( So, is there anything I can do to make them less blue? I already thought I could change the shoelaces for white or brownish to match the spots, but what I'd really like to do is change the colour of the rubber from blue to something else. Has anyone tried painting the rubber bits on shoes like this (like converse etc or even wellies)? What did you do and how sucessful was it? I thought acrylic paint would just crack and flake straight away, would spray paint be better? Do you think that cracked white paint over the blue would look interesting, well, good enough to wear anyway? Could I bleach them? If I can't change the blue then I might just take them back and save up for the 'perfect' pair....Any tips or ideas are most welcome :)
