i went into this store today called "Home Fabrics" - and I was just going to look around because it was huge rolls of fabric for furniture and curtains... but they had some cotton prints in the back and i found some sale and clearance items in the back - i was able to buy about 5-6 yards of different fabrics for around $5 - i am going to try and make me a bag to carry my school books in - i have been quite inspired by all the great projects -- i really haven't sewed anything in a very long time -- and even then i didn't do much -- plus i don't have a patern but i have a bag that i bought at old navy last year and i am going to make my new bag a little bit bigger and with a longer strap/handle to carry it

i also have tons of beads that i want to make into jewelry - so i cheated and got finding from walmart - it is the silver "wire" with a clasp already connected at the end - i figured i would start out simple - see how i did -- and then i will try to buy wire and bend it to make the designs i have seen

i don't have a digi cam but i do have a cam on my cell phone - i will take some before pics and then during and after shots when i start working on my stuff -- i have been having cell phone problems - so i will post them when i can...

i just wanted to say thanks for all the ideas -- and you girls are really great at helping out, answering questions and offering advice -- i can't wait to get started on my projects

(school starts in a month - so i should be able to make my school bag by then - i hope)

New earrings with formulaexo

Man do I love taking anything I can and putting them on earrings. There's nothing better than having something crazy dangling from your ears to have EVERYONE commenting on your ears!

And with Halloween approaching quickly I'm getting excited about decorating and putting together candy corn accessories! Oooh I just can't wait for halloween ^^;;

I have lost some weight recently and I would like to take in the waist on some of my pants and skirts.
Can anyone recommend a website with instructions on how to do this?

I'm turning to all you crafters out there for some help. This morning at a small flea market, I bought tons of DMC embroidery floss (I'm thinking it's all the colors) for $15. And they are already wound on the little cards. My problem is organizing them. I really don't want to go buy a bunch of those plastic boxes like they sell at Joanne's and everywhere else. I was hoping someone would have a clever/cheap idea for storing these in numerical order. Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have.

i'm not entirely sure how crafty this is, but i made paper dolls of me and a few friends as a final project last semester. they were really fun to make and i want to make more, and make some of people i don't know. so i guess what i'm asking is if anyone wants me to make a paper doll of them! i dont know why but i want to make like a mass amount of them and have tons of differnt people. i have plans to eventually print them out so you can use them, but i'm not ready to do that yet.

SO, I've got some interfacing for a purse I'm making but I have no idea how to apply it. It's fusible therefore I have to iron it on, but how do I go about it? Do I iron it to the lining fabric? How do I iron it; apply pressure or move the iron across it? Do I have to use a piece of fabric on top of the interfacing while ironing?

Please help!

hi, my name is alicia, and i'm a craftgrrlaholic.
i've been lurking this community for a few months now, but never had anything to post till today.

i bought my very first sewing machine two weeks ago. (i say that like i intend to buy more, which i don't, at this point). i'd never used a sewing machine before, only ever hand sewed, and even then, not many times.

i probably should have started with a pillow, or pouch or something. but instead, i made some pyjama pants.

I picked up two oversized throw pillows from Goodwill the other day-- one is a giant San Francisco 49'ers pillow, and the other is just a decorative pillow that probably sat on some ancient couch for years without being used. I bought them with the intent to re-cover them and make them meditation pillows to toss in my living room, but I haven't the slightest idea where to start. I have never sewn anything in my life.

Are there any tutorials for this I might have missed, or have you guys ever attempted a similar project? I hate to just pay someone to do it for me, but I don't want them sitting in my Jeep forever, either.

And so this post isn't completely selfish and photo-less, here is my favorite marble-magnet tutorial, from notmartha.org. If you've never heard of the site, check it out-- she's fucking awesome:

I'm looking to craft a little t-shirt or tank top for my dog, since those puppy apparel websites tend to be a little outrageous in their prices.

However, I've had a hard time trying to find any sort of sewing pattern or instruction for making this type of thing.

I searched the FAQ here, I've searched craftster.org, Google, and Yahoo. Maybe I'm overlooking something, but it has just been difficult to find a legit link to an actually site with instruction.

Does anyone have any idea how I would go about making a t-shirt or tank top for my dog? Shes a medium to large sized dog (50lbs). If you have a link or pattern, that would be even more fabulous.

Thanks!

We've had a spell of heat lately so since it was too hot (yes. 70 degrees is too hot for me) to do anything, I decided to take advantage of sunpower. Not only did I sun all my old vintage coats (hurrah!) I hosed down my bike and finally finished this:

I would have before photos but I think they're on the memory card that I lost.. feh. But it was a plain school issue (haha! nicked from my stupid school) brown "leather" record player. I painted about five layers of white on it, taped the accents, and did coats of black. Then I sealed it with sparkly iridescent clear glaze. Woo! go cheap acrylic paints. These pictures don't do it justice, it gleams in person.

+3 of record player and a needed opinion )

Sorry for the double post, and sorry if this has already been covered. But, has anyone came across a board that has a category specifically for swapping craft supplies? I know there are places on craftster, and there are a couple communities on Lj..but most of those are for swapping completed projects.
Plus, on Craftster, they want you to meet all of these requirements which are kind of ridiculous if you've already established yourself on similar sites.

So if nobody knows of an active board with a category that swaps specifically for craft supplies, would anyone be interested in helping me create one?

When I was home a couple of years ago, I was at my Grandpa's house and found my Grandma's cookbook, the one she copied all her recipes into. It seems when my family divvied up all her things, they didn't think this was worth taking. I treasure it, there are 60 years of recipes in it, all the clippings she hoarded, recipes she found important enough to type out, and lots in her own handwriting. All my favourites are in there, her ribbon jello, her hedgehogs, her German potato salad.

However, through the decades of use, the black binder that she used had fallen asunder, the front and back covers had come right off. I could have tried to find another binder like it, but that wouldn't really be my style...

Hiya, this is my first post. I like making all kinds of things, but recently I have been making felt monsters. They are made for friends and are designed to scare away "bad" Monsters. They are hand sewn, I have a sewing machine, but I think the rougher stitching looks better in this case. I also make alot of my clothes and costumes and stuff, but for now...... monsters!

i haven't posted in a while... i have been working on a new heavy duty bag for school which is taking me longer than i'd like. so today, i decided to make a simple quickie project.

after using a ziploc bag for my grips to keep them from chalking up the rest of my gymnastics bag forever, i decided a nice little drawstring bag would be better.

plus some more... )

thanks for looking! ♥ jenny

Sorry if this doesn't come under the community rules, but I'm horrifically curious...

I found someone's wishlist for swaps on Craftster, and I was wondering if this is a common thing that people do? Do any of you have one? What kinds of things did you/do people put in them?

Many Thanks!

Hey everybody! I've been lurking for a while and I love the stuff that I've seen..so much so that I was inspierd to do some shopping this weekend...

I picked up 2 sewing machines at a garage sale and a rummage sale, neither of which had instructions, of course...

The first one I got is a Nelco J-A38.
Nelco pics )
I managed to find instructions on how to thread it.

The second one is a Necchi-Alco 1300SU.
Necchi-Alco pics )
I haven't been able to find any kind of documentation on this machine at all. Nothing. It's like it never existed. Anyhow, the Necchi also came with a box of accessories, pics here )
and since I can't find anything about it online, I was hoping someone here might be able to either help me figure out what they are or point me in the right direction for me to figure it out on my own.

Thanks in advance!

Today with my craft group I nearly finished my shrine for my garmma Gladys. She left me behind her sewing machine- which I use daily. I wanted to make this shrine for her to always say thanks for being my gramma.

Can someone roughly tell me how much it cost them to cover there cell in rhinestones? Like the cheapy ones from probably Walmart, and do you think I could put glitter glue on my phone, just for a clear layer? or do I need to rough it up first? Thanks. :)

Hey, for all of you that buy fabric online, is there anywhere in particular you go? I'm looking for mostly plain cotton fabrics, in cool prints. Remenents mainly, maybe 1-3 yards of each. Maybe a little bit of muslin, or some linen cotton blend (like 50-50 ish). I'm making some little purses, some skirts... just this and that. I was looking for something really inexpensive (1-3 dollars a yard, low shipping), because I just want odds and ends to mess around with.

Thanks in advance!
