Last week, I worked on the stained glass design for the bathroom window. The windows are standard double-hung and this design will go into both panes. I used to do my templates by hand and now MUCH prefer doing them digitally to get everything perfectly proportioned. I printed out the template in parts, taped them together, mounted them to the plexiglass, and have begun doing the leading work. I had to order some leading circles online directly from Plaid. They don't seem to carry those at the craft stores anymore which puts a serious crunch on my design technique. I like to use the circles to buttress my tight corners and fill them in with a contrasting color. In the design here, all the large black dots will be circles filled with something fun, maybe purple.

The bathroom is YEARS away from being on my redecorating list. However, now that the new window is in, I want to get the envisioned stained glass piece in place so that I can like, take a shower without the paparazzi ogling my naked butt. As some of you may recall, I hope to do my bathroom in a Krishna theme. Kinda a cross between a Hindu temple and a dentist's office with nice clean stainless steal fixtures.

In this PIC of a nearly completed pane, you can see how I use the lead circles to fill out my stained glass window design ... as well as the fact that I've run out of leading. Grr! Pft! Grr!

Oh, I forgot to mention another step in the process is scrubbing the back of the plexiglass with steel wool to buff it and make it more translucent and less transparent. I usually only do this for bathroom windows. You really cannot see distinctly through this type of stained glass. However, buffing the plexiglass a bit does frost it and give more privacy.

Some new trinkets and some old unfinished-but-now-finished ones, too. Been busy...oh yes, I have...=)

WOW. I'm glad I stayed up and went with my instincts and made this. I took my time with this and got a good quality product. I LOVE this necklace SO much.

the hook on my (bottom-whorl) drop spindle broke off, and now i am so uncoordinated. i make the half-hitch, but it just slips off while i'm spinning and my spindle drops to the ground. how can i make sure my half-hitch is secure before i continue spinning?

and also, would it be easier to just turn my spindle around and use it as a top-whorl instead without the hook, or should i continue using it as a bottom-whorl?

I have been spinning a little bit these past two days since I got the fiber package. I'm starting off with the dyed wool..

29 yards (87 feet), 100% wool, bulky thick & thin yarn
I still need to come up with a name of this one. :)

I haven't measured these ones yet. These were my first attempts at making 2-ply yarn. The one on the left is pink and yellow wool 2-ply yarn, and the one on the right is yellow wool and hot pink ribbon 2-ply yarn. I took these photos before I washed them -- right now, they are hanging to dry. I spun the pink with some shiny/sparkly magenta angelina fibers, but I don't know if I spun them in correctly.

Details of the two plyed yarns pre-washing:

Just showed the boyfriend and he replied with "Handspun of Doom!" :)

does anyone know how to do polaroid transfers with the normal 600 film rather than the peel-apart stuff?

i know it's possible but i've been searching for a week and can't find anything about it.

thanks!

while i was waiting in front of a friends house (45 minutes!!!!!!!) i made this necklace with some found flowers and beads I had in my bag since my last fea market adventure. i love how it turned out & the idea of using fresh flowers for jewellery. i like fact that you can wear it only for a couple hours - very cinderellaish.

This needs some background info...
All of my friends and I met in a class called One Act Play Productions, and ever since, we've called ourselves the One Act Mafia. Yeah.. we're nerds... but what can you expect from theater kids?

The Used. Yes, the paint is inconsistent for a reason.

If you're a broke art school student and need to get some sort of board to paint on... Seek out the local timbermen. I needed something to paint on for school, in a rather large format. I batted my eyes at the local woodshop, and they gave me their cut-offs and told me to help myself. They were all at least 200cmx50cm.

I got my board- they even cut it up for me in the appropriate size (70x100cm), and then I grounded the MDF board with leftover white emulsion that I'd got for free from the paint shop.

Male workers are your friends. :)

I'm in no shape or form a good painter, drawing and sculpting is more my cup of tea.
In fact, this is my first acrylic painting, so I'm quite please with how it turned out and even more pleased with how much fun I had with working with it. :)

Setting up [livejournal.com profile] drdjmike’s ginormous seventy-five gallon fish tank in the dining room resulted in the corresponding displacement of my Quan Yin alter. I’m going to sell most of my alter implements in my upcoming yard sale because real Buddhists detest clutter anyway. I do, however, still want to display my Quan Yin statue. I decided to perch it on the windowsill above the kitchen sink. My kitchen is red with powder gray trim, so the statue actually fits well here. To spruce up the Goddess’ new pad, I converted some old spray paint caps into spider plant holders. I printed out some antique fabric designs and glued the paper to the sides. I think it came out cute.

bring new life to your way-too-big-to-hang-on-the-wall posters!

(this isn't 100% crafty in the sense that you make everything from scratch, just a neat idea. would probably make a nice gift for someone you like.)

Hi all! Sorry my first post is a question, but I promise to post something crafty soon!
My mom and I want to make cell phone cozy things, but all the patterns/tutorials I can find are knitted and we wanted to make them out of corduroy or something equally durable. We have a cheapo neoprene-ish one to go off of, but i was hoping for some kind of pattern...

Any help greatly appreciated!!

I just started a drawing class at school and we got some nifty supplies. However, there is one thing in my drawing set that neither, I, nor my teacher have any clue as to what it is. Any help would be awesome.

If this isn't allowed, point me in a different direction please!!

crafty, and question.

i embroidered this a little while ago. still practicing my filling, etc. it was freehand. embroidering a washcloth is a BITCH.

and crocheted set )

first time i've ever actually finished a hat/scarf/mittens set! i usually lose patience/interest after one of two pieces. and with perfect timing, too. it was a around/under 60 degrees today, so i curled up with my slippers, scarf, hat, and afghan, and listened to love-ly music.

and my question is this; when you felt wool, exactly how much does it shrink? i want to make a pair of felted slippers, but i don't know how big to make them, so that they will be the right size after they're done.

So I bought a couple of cheap tank tops last week and then decided to spice the black one up a bit... The result is thus:

You're going to bring yourself down... )

My question is: Should I keep it as is or do something else? I'm thinking about maybe some cap sleeves for sure and also maybe something else on the front. It's the front that's kind of bothering me. Maybe some little pockets? Add some lace? It just looks so plain. And it's got the little ridges, so that makes a stencil a bit more difficult. What do you guys think?

x-posted.

My sister just finished a cute little knit jacket and now she needs a zipper for it. We've looked at both Beverely's and Joanns (and online Joanns) and the selection was terrible. (Also she needs to use the jacket type zipper as opposed to the standard zipper). We were also hoping to get it in a matching light blue color. I'm local to the Bay Area in California and was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to go around here, or a website that has a good selection. Thanks!

(edit: it's a child sized jacket. So a 14 inch zipper.)

so i've been kinda busy this week... too much homework, too much band, but still not enough to stop me from making stuff and "wasting" time doing that.

this week's ventures included my first non-scarf knitted project and another tote bag.

(close up of the tote.)

plus a bunch of pictures )

i was quite sad to see the blankie go...

thanks for looking! ♥ jenny

So this is only sort of a craft, I suppose.

Bottlecaps and old office CDs, hotglued to a board canvas, with acrylic paint. See how many brands of beer you can spot! No, I didn't drink them, underage drinking is wrong doodz.

With flash )

I had to paint that stupid line 3 times.

The original plan was to spraypaint the whole thing with rectangles of blue and grey and then paint the line on, but once I was done glueing I liked it too much to paint over it. Hope my art teacher doesn't mind, heh...

So this is something I made last March or so. I sewed it by hand from old t-shirts late at night instead of sleeping (because who needs sleep, right??).
