I got a sewing machine from my birthday at the end of Sept! I was so excited bc I recently moved out of my parents house (and into a house right off campus with some friends) and could only use my mothers when I went home to visit. So here is my first sewing project.

Well I hope you enjoyed. I was very happy with how it turned out. :) Happy early Halloween everyone!

So I was watching that TV show on TLC, I think its called Overhaulin'. Anyways, the designer/drafter guy that was designing the new look for the car..the guy that sketches the idea out, and fills it all in with color on paper. Well he was using some kind of markers or something..they were really awesome. It looked like they went on really sheer, and you could layer them (repeat strokes) to make them darker/more vibrant.

I was interested in trying them, but i have no idea what type of markers they are. Can anyone help me out? Tell me what kind they are, where they sell them, how much they run?

I saw some at Michaels, but they had so many different tpyes and varieties..I really didn't know what was for what.

Can you mod-podge fall leaves? I'm making little greeting cards (I will probably post a pic or two when I'm done!) and wondered if that would stop them from crinkling or dying in the mail. Maybe just using a little wax paper, like a wedding invite?

Craft question for you crafty gents and gals!

Question 1: I need to make something for my hubby. Our 2 year wedding anniversary is on Halloween and we really don't have extra cash. We will probably make dinner at home and spend the evening on our front porch giving out candy and hanging out.
But...I want to make him something.
But what is the question! What do you make a guy? I was thinking a journal but he doesn't typically write that much anymore. Then maybe a picture frame, but I am the picture junkie. I just can't come up with anything!!!

Question 2: Hand made bags:
I am playing around with the idea of adding some beadwork to my bags. But I truly don't know where to start! Can any of you recommend some tutorials, websites or give me some helpful pointers?

Thanks for reading
p.s. fall is just awesome!

last night - I made a necklace. This is a style that was popular in the 80's and seems to be making a re-appearence on the fashion front. It is just a tube of fabric with beads inserted into it and then separating beads pulled over the fabric.

I was experimenting with it to see if it would look good with kimono fabric. I figured it would either look really fugly or really cute. Thankfully, I think it is the latter!

Unfortunately - I ran out of the small small silver beads I was using so I had to substitute with other shapes. Tonight - I am heading to the store to fix that problem!

Please pardon the deathier than thou look....I was tired and unwell last night along with bedhead and no make-up. I feel sexy. not! :P

Tutu

K...so a friend of mine wants to buy a black tutu for halloween. I say she should just make one. She doesn't have a sewing machine but she could hand sew. How much fabric would she need? I mean really...why spend $30 on something you will only wear once. She isn't a goth or anything like I am so she wouldn't get a whole lot of wear out of it.

By the way she is pretty skinny...toothpick.

hi all!

Similar to what you've seen from me before...but this time, using ginkos and oxidation. More views and the other pieces that are part of this commission can be found in my LJ. I'm too image-heavy for the uncurious. ;-)

This beret took forever, but it's finally done! I found the pattern on a random google search, and I don't like it much, but it was good practice working in reverse stockingnette stitch on circular needles.
Ignore the weird hair, I just woke up:-P

Hey guys.

I was bead shopping on the internet recently, and I am not used to that because I normally just go into my local bead shop, see what looks pretty, and buy it. Needless to say, all of the sizing references and lengths of hanks confused the heck out of me. I found this wonderful little reference guide on the Michaels website that I think you guys might find handy.

Here is the link
It provides you with a chart telling you how many beads you get on a 16 inch strand (the standard length beads are sold on) per individual sizes of beads. That way next time you click on "16 inch strand" to purchase your beads, you wont be in the dark about how many pairs of earrings, etc. you can make.

It also gives you the standard lengths for various kinds of necklaces.

On the back of the new ReadyMade they have a URL for up to 8 free floor samples, I just filled out the form and its quite simple. Anyways, thought I'd pass it along for anyone who may be interested.

So! I'm doing a holiday show next month and I'm looking for booth display ideas that go with my merchandise.

This is what I make: http://www.girlgoth.com/monsters/sample-monsters.jpg
(more at http://www.girlgoth.com)

What do you think of when you see them? I'll have a small Christmas tree at my booth, and table coverings of white and bugundy and red. I'll for sure have different levels of displays, but nothing specific yet. I'm brainstorming for more definite ideas, but I want to see what impressions the monsters give people when they see them so I can make my display more holiday-monster themed. :)

Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can find a pattern for making to the elbow gloves for weddings/proms/homecoming/ etc? Or know of a dye that can be used to dye white gloves? I hae a teal dress and wand what to either dye my white ones or buy fabric and make my own. Any help is greatly appirecated. :)

PS. Ive alraedy called every bridal accessory store in the are to see if they dye gloves and none of them do. One woman said she could order a pair but it would take 12 days and i dont have that much time. Thanks in advance.

I hand made an amateur, cheap screen for a t-shirt. The problem, I'm confused as to what type of ink/paint I should use. What is the difference between screenprinting ink and fabric paint?

Well...I have FINALLY caught onto the felt flower trend and have been making brooches like they're going outta style.

They aren't going out of style...are they? GOD I hope not...These are going to be Christmas presents for the majority of my female friends.

(BIG pictures...dial-up BEEEEEWAAAARE)

My babies...I mean brooches. )

I also finished a shelf I had been painting. My bathroom's theme is purple...and I needed something above the towel rack to sorta JAZZ things up...So I found a plain unpainted shelf at Joann's on sale for $7 or something. I grabbed it and went to work. I'm SO happy with the results.

Thanks for letting me share.

what do you think of these items to be put together as an anne boleyn (King henry VIII's Courtier Affair who helped to dethrone queen katherine) costume? I want to get white ermine fur to line the collar of the cape (or hood if I can find one) but I can't seem to find ermine fur that isn't real. I'm also gonna try to make a guillotine to put my head through out of cardboard and foil.

Yesterday I finally got around to repairing my sewing machine, and voila, a new shirt.
Please excuse the crooked neckline. I didn't notice it until I took the pictures, and I've been wearing it all day.

Also you might remember a long time ago, I was asking about Dinos?
I made a TON of them. Literally.

Kitty Doll

[identity profile] kickandslide.livejournal.com
I have finished my latest project. She is a hand sewn softie kitten... it took me about 6 hours to do this doll. The dress is cotton (quilting fabric) and the fur is some sort of acrylic/felt type blend and it only cost $1.99!

Kitty Plush )

I am without a doubt the biggest fan of www.loobylu.com. I am insanely jealous of everything Claire does. I made this kitty doll with no pattern but it was 100 percent snaked from her design...

Okay, here's a question for all you girls that play with Tulip and Scribbles fabric paints.

I made some absolutely great designs on my grey slick cargoes over the summer, and have fallen in love with the pants. The problem is, as fabric paint is wont to do, is is already peeling. I can handle a bit of cracking, but I'm afraid that my little pretties are going to peel right off.

So is there any way to secure, achor, set or otherwise keep this kind of paint from lifting? Thanks!

I got a bunch of like fake christmas flowers from my neighbor. Any idea what I can do with besides making a wreath or things to do around candles? Thanks for anyone who can help.
[identity profile] acexkeikai.livejournal.com
Yeah I know this sounds weird but I want to paint the soles of a pair of old army boots. It's for an Halloween/Cosplay costume. What would you recommend using to paint the soles red? I don't want the paint to scrape off easily...
Can anyone help?

I've been tired of digging for my lil baby cellphone in my bag and can never find one that I like so I decided to make one. Problem #1 = No sewing machine but I can handsew kinda okay...so fixed. Problem #2 = wanted to put grommits in for a "proper" handle but can't find where I put them...fixed that with some silver cording. It's jsut temporary til I find where those stupid little things are hiding. I took pictures, hope I shrunk them behind the cut okay for viewing. )

I'm curious, what are these craft exchange partners?
How do you get one?
It sounds like fun.
Is it another community on livejournal that does this?

Help me out!
