I have a great idea, I just need a little help executing it... I love elephants and I love bright colors... and I have tons of left over fabric - So i am thinking I can make use of some of these scraps and make them into elephants!!!  They wouldn't be pillows.. more like really thin play animals... I was even thinking of making them into picture frames because I bought a remnant of 12 gauge clear vinyl from Jo-Ann fabrics (using it for an upcoming bag, only need a small bit of it though)

how should i do the edges?  I am going to put a layer of leftover fleece in side so it has some depth...  i know about stiching right sides together and then clipping curves to make it go right side out better.. but i dont know what i want to do.... and the mouth is going to be hard to figure out too - i might have to adjust the drawing a bit...

and for anyone curious - here is the crazy fabric i am using!!!

I need your thoughts on how to put my costume together for Halloween.

See, the plan is to go as the ball that the Prince pushes around in the video game "Katamari Damacy".

We're already set on what to stick on said ball when it's constructed. Pretty much everything, of course :)

But I need some logistics help on constructing the ball itself.

I'm thinking of first starting with two circles of... something. Thin PVC, maybe? One would be the neck, and the other would be the bottom part (probably right around my knees).

We'd then get more PVC to attach to said rings, making a sort of framework to stretch cloth on, to have something to stick the stuff to.

We're also figuring on seams on the sides (creating a front half hemisphere and a back half hemisphere), so that it's transportable, and would also allow me to stick my arms out when needed and to remove it fairly easily.

Does this sound like it would work? Any suggestions, especially on what to use for the framework?

i found out about the Etsy site thru this community. i was thinking about trying to sell some of my stuff on there (since they have no fees till November!) But i wanted to get some feedback from other sellers first. mainly, does it work? do people actually buy stuff from there? would it be worth the time to post it up?

also, how do you calculate shipping? do you go to the post office, weigh it then figure it out? or do you all guestimate?

any help would be greatly appreciated. if this is the wrong kind of topic to post here, feel free to delete :)

thanks!

My co-worker wants to make this Dr. Decker mask for Halloween, but he's not sure how to go about it. Does anyone know how he might make this?

Hi,

I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice on interfacing...I need to make a tote bag this weekend. The first bag I made, I attempted using iron-on interfacing ( Fuse-a-shade, I think )and it wouldn't stick to the fabric at all...I think it's because I was using home dec fabric that had been treated with some sort of stain repellant...it was a huge frustration, so all my subsequent bags were made without interfacing. I don't like a very stiff bag, so this was fine for me.

But the bag I have to make this weekend is for someone else, and it's to be a knitting bag, so I want something a bit more sturdy than I usually make. However, I don't want it to be stiff or anything...

So, can anyone tell me if they prefer sew-on interfacing or iron-on? And can someone recommend a brand that will add a bit of structure, without being too stiff?

Also, do you normally interface the pockets and straps of the bag? Or just the main body?

Thanks so much!

I just finished my first handmade book. I followed the instructions from Daydreaming on Paper | April/May 2002. I had a couple issues with it, but I think it turned out okay.

I did one elephant so far... and i like that it's feet are uneven... and i ended up using foam inside of it!  i got out an older needle (in case it ruins good ones) and i could sew right through the foam - so i did a little heart :-)

i sewed right sides together.. leaving the tummy open - flipped it right side out and used a pen to poke out the trunk... and then i slipped in the piece of foam (that i had to recut like 4 times so it would fit perfectly)... then i just sewed all around the edges.... the ear has stiches that ares just around the outsides - i wasnt paying attention and went too far in twice.. so i fixed it by going around a whole nother time... purposely "messing" up.  i like it - i am pleased.. hopefully the ones to follow are quicker!

i'll have the other ones done something this weekend.. i definitely want to get a picture frame on one of them

When I was buying my first bottle of resin the other day, I noticed that there was clear casing epoxy and clear casting resin. What is the difference between the two? Not like the chemical differences, but has someone tried both and noticed a difference?

I tried my first resin project with a 2-part sphere mold that I made with molding clay. Not very successful, but hopefully I can work out the problems next time. Does anyone have a favorite resin tip? I've read through the mem's but wouldn't mind extra information... Especially on how to keep the stink out of the house. (I took everything outside to make it, and let it sit outside overnight to dry, but my husband is giving me the evil eye.)

Hello, not really crafty but we need ideas. My niece just found out that she was voted class clown today and is trying to think of something funny for her yearbook pic. It will be of her and a guy so anything funny for duos would work too...and just so this isn't text only, a clip keychain I made a while back...

So I spray painted my cell phone a few weeks ago, and it was really really cool at first. But then it started chipping...and it made it look worse than it did in the first place, so I've basically just like taken all of the paint off of it. But I want to redo it.
Any suggestions of what kind of paint to use or other techniques to get the paint to stay on this time?

I've just acquired a penpal, and I'd like to, after I find out a bit about her, send her some things that I've crafted

and what a better thing to do than get something out of it myself?

hehe I'm trying to find out how to make lotion, but I suck at googling and can't find anything in the memories.

help?!

oh, I'll be posting the rearview mirror charm that I made today as soon as I get my digi cam back, but for now, you get text only :P

I had wanted a mirror for my foyer for awhile (nothing like a quick check for bats in the batcave as you run out the door for work), but everything I found that I liked was much more than what I was willing to pay for and most of the affordable stuff was boring and ugly. My solution: make my own mirror! I bought a cheap mirror ($5!) at the thrift store, spray painted the crappy frame baby pink with silver glitter, and then glued my lifetime collection of tiny gumball machine toys, game pieces, broken jewelry and charms to it and ta-da: I came out with a freakin' cool mirror.
