I made this bittersweet wreath about two weeks ago. I just twisted it together while I watched a movie. The hemp ties aren't nearly so obvious in person.

I finished this stocking last night. I used the directions in December of last year's Martha Stewart Living magazine. The magazine used a hole punch to make an all-over design. It looks cool but my hole punches aren't sharp enough to cut the felt so I had to think of something different. The stocking is for a cat so I found a cat silhouette online and used that. I cut out the stocking shapes using the pattern in the magazine. Then I made a template from the cat image and traced around it onto the red piece of felt. I matched the white and red felt together and sewed them together along the cat shape. Then I cut out the red inside the stitches. The I sewed the whole thing together and added the cuff. I'm pretty happy with it. I am still going to embroider the kitty's name on the cuff, and sew on a hanging loop.

I'm trying to get my 15 year old cousin crafting. She made these earrings that she hopes to sell on a selling journal I'm setting up for her. She did a great job, I'm proud of her. Check out her creations.

Hi-
Have any of you used this Provo mini sewing machine for paper? http://www.scrapbooksupercenter.com/sewcrmisema.html
It's on sale at A.C. Moore for 4.99 and I was thinking of picking it up so I can make cute cards. Does anyone have any comments on it's usefullness?
Thanks
And the sale ends tomorrow (Tuesday).

I want to make my own mold for resin. Can anyone recommend a specific brand that *you have used* with resin to make a semi-flexible mold? (silicon, latex, plastisol)

I bought "elasticlay" thinking I could make a rubber mold out of that, but had a lot of trouble getting the resin to release from the mold. If I had thought about the fact it was Sculpy brand I might have figured it would not work for non-clay. When I bought & used the mold release (another $5) it was even worse, and actually pulled off chunks of the mold.

There is another brand at the store called something like Mold Magic. It is made of two parts that you mix together, which is more of what I expected. But, it is $20 & I do not want to waste more money on something that might not work. I am fine with getting something online as long as I know someone else has had luck with it.

(I am sick of craft supplies at the store being so poorly labeled so you have to go back to buy things 3 times and they still don't work!)

So, I've been playing, and finally finishing some projects from my smocking convention that I went to in September.
Sorry, the pictures (esp. lighting) suck, but with the lovely inversion, I can't get much better.

Anyway, first, I took a class to learn thread painting. It's pretty cool, it just takes forever, and looks a lot like machine embroidery.

We made a little tea towel with a clown fish. Here's mine (almost finished):

hey everyone,

i'd like to buy a button making machine as a christmas present for someone -- i've been looking at the dr. don's model 100. however, i'd really like to know if anyone knows of a store or online retailer in canada? i'm in toronto specifically. it seems like there is absolutely no one selling these things in canada and shipping costs are insane from the u.s. =/

DIY bra?

Nov. 28th, 2005 12:37 pm
[identity profile] momontherun.livejournal.com
I've looked through the FAQ/Memories and I didn't see anything about this.....
I cannot find a bra that fits right. I've looked in every store from Walmart to Victoria's Secret and everything in between, including online and I cannot find my size.
Has anyone ever made themselves a bra, or taken one in? I am a 32D and the smallest I can find is 34D.
I am looking for a pattern or a way to take one in so that the seam doesn't rub my skin....
Any suggestions?
Also, if anyone knows where I can find one in my size, that'd be great, too!

Hi all

I had this on my mother's computer and it got wiped out recently (the drive that is) It's a free pattern software where you enter you measures and it would make you a pattern from a template for you and print it, with seam allowence and all that.

can someone please point me in the direction of that software? I think it was shareware and you could buy an extended version with more patterns. =\

I checked the memories and didn't see it =\ Please, please, please can someone help me? :;puppy eyes::

Hey-
I'm working on some Christmas cards for my sisters. And the rest of my family too...
I need some advice. I have this one: and I'm wondering does it need a flash to look more like a camera? I had a light yellow square in the corner as was in my template, but it looked weird...

I also have this one )

I made a pencil case/bag and modeled it with my seal. I also made a really cool comic for you. What do you think?

Without further ado...

I've dug myself into a hole here. Does anyone play Halo? Know who Master Chief is? ... Well, I talked myself into making a Master Chief doll for my best friend for Christmas (though now I don't think it'll be done until his birthday in April).

I had no idea what I was getting myself into, because I don't play Halo and didn't know who Master Chief is. I have a little plush bendy doll (for that sillyness "I love you, best friend" factor) waiting to become a celebrity.

This is Master Chief:

http://www.mikesjournal.com/Halo%202%20Master%20Chief.jpg

I'm not looking to make it perfect or amazing, but I want to do better than just painting his costume onto the doll and calling it done.

What I'm asking is, any idea what I could use to make his armor and orange visor? I was thinking about getting a doll's motorcycle helmet and repainting it for Master's helm and visor, but I don't know what to do with the rest. Any other tips or ideas would be welcome.

So when I went to Micheal's to buy my Knifty Knitter (WHICH I LOVEE)- I asked if I had to buy the rectangular version to make scarves, and a lady who worked there said I could use the normal round one to make the scarves.
Do I just pick a little section of pegs and go back and forth on the same section? (sorry if that doesn't make sense)

Here's a lame little diagram I conjured up in MS Paint to try to help to explain.

Thanks, ladies!

I've been browsing for button makers online- and I found The Discovery Hand-Powered Button Maker Toy on Amazon.com for $24.99. It makes "more than 70 1.5 inch buttons"

Does anyone have it?
Anyone know if it's good or not?
If it's not good- anyone know where I can get a good button maker that's relatively cheap? (around the same price as this one would be nice...)
Where can I get additional pieces?

THANKS!
I promise I will post stuff soon. Haha.

The last time I tried making this entry, the picture didn't really work, so I'm trying again!
I made the earrings for my friend, since my ears and pierced, but they still need the hooks (which I intend to buy..sometime soon). I'll probably fix them up a little bit in the mean time. Just wanted to share :-)

Random, um, hardware question?

I make a calendar each year and the last few years I haven't had a hole in them for hanging but this year I'd really like to make it more professional.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hole puncher of some sort which will punch cleanly through 13 sheets of 60# paper? I'd prefer a smaller than full-sized hole, and I need to get it right in the center of the page so they don't hang off kilter...

Thanks for any hope anyone can offer me!

I just got the round Knifty Knitter set for my birthday Sunday. I'm at a total loss. I can't figure out how to do what they show in the pictures. The knitted part in the middle. I keep going around the loom and it just fills up my pegs. I'm sorry if this sounds dumb, I'm a total newbie at this. :\ Any help at all would be great. I really want to make a hat. I've read so many places that it's super easy, but I'm stuck and my awesome birthday present is starting to rustrate me. :(
Here's a website I was looking at.
http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/how-to-loom-knit.html

(the picture I'm talking about is under step number 4. All the knitting in the middle. Mine are just going around the loom. I dunno what I'm doing wrong. )

Thank you!!!!

sorry it's a text-post ... but i was curious what you guys think about the customer service (not the desk, in general with their associates) at Jo-Ann's?

i'm usually pretty content with it... but today... i had 3 people snap at me (in 2 different departments)... one wasn't even my fault and the other two didn't even listen to me when i asked for a sample.

then the last person, just said, "just give her whatever she wants so you can get her out of here."

anyway, long story short... they were just really rude... i've been in retail for 8 years, i know how people are during the holidays... but i wasn't being one of "those" people... i clearly stated what i wanted, and the lady said i couldn't have the sample of a fabric 1" by 1" ... so, i said. that's fine... and she argued with me when i said that was weird because that's what i've always gotten in the past 2 to 3 years that i've been here... i wasn't trying to argue with her, but just stating what had happened in the past... and she snapped at me saying how she's been here for 3 months and everyone else was wrong... then she snapped at me again... when i didn't say anything.

the best part of it all was when she said, "we're here trying to sell fabric, not to support you."

maybe it's the holiday season... but it really changed my experience to Jo-Ann's.

and apparently, this also happened to one of my friend's mother last week... *shrugs*

I'm pretty sure I found the journal link through here so I'm going to give it a shot and ask.

Can anyone link me to the person who makes those tiny little scented cupcakes?

I seem to have lost the link and I'm almost positive I found them through here!

This is my first time posting, but I've been a member for a couple of years (under different names).

Anyway, I found some 18 gauge green copper wire in my room while cleaning and decided to put it to use. I really wanted to make earrings, but keychain rings were the only thing I could find :P

It's not the best of quality (I realized this after my dad yanked the little chain apart), but I think it's cute for a first try -- I've never used wire before. The little gold fish is something I made after going on a slight clay-charm making spree the other day... it was inspired by goldfish crackers. :D

So does anyone have any tips to do this better? I'm thinking that it might look better without the little chain bit. Also, should I maybe try for a thicker wire since it's a keychain? It seems pretty sturdy, but I want it to stay that way. Annnd... if I were to sell something like this, do you think anyone would be interested?

The Kira Bracelet

Made with power beads (remember those things?), glass beads and small vintage beads throughout. My sisters had a "make your own power beads" set they weren't using from years ago, so I took the beads from there.
