Polymer Clay creations!
Jul. 5th, 2006 09:11 amI was playing around with my Sculpey and I made some ickle pink Swans. (Cam batteries are dead, so I can't show you)... Then I took my little swan design and had a go at some earrings... My first pair!!!
( A masterpiece of pink clay, glitter and sculpey glaze! )
And this one is turning into something of an addiction... I've made about 10 of these by now... each one is a little bit different in his colours and style (since I model each one individually... No cookie cutters involved!)
( My little Gingerbread dudes... )
I'm pretty sure I haven't posted these here yet... but I made them about August last year as Christening gifts for my dads cousins little girls... I'm not big into religion or those crappy silver spoons that seemed to be all I could find in shops in the way of gifts... The little faeries are made in sculpey, baked onto the glass votives which were then painted with the names... Oh and some lovely packaging!
( Faeries.... This one is a little image heavy! )
Don't know if I've posted these ones either...
( Bunny, Turtle and Nellyphant! )
Thats it for now!

A different take on paper dolls
Jul. 5th, 2006 10:14 amMy friend's daughter is turning 4 in August, so I made her a set of paper doll clothes through the ages. I downloaded a whole bunch of historical costumes, then Photoshopped them all to be the right size, printed them, colored them in with pencils, added 3-D details (different on each outfit), and then Mod Podged them to be more sturdy. The doll is a drawn head on a wire tissue paper wrapped body, so it's flexible and she can take on the poses of the clothes. The clothes each have two paper belt-like attachements in the back to wrap around the doll so she can wear them. The doll and the clothes live in a converted card box where the clothes are hung up on hangers on a ribbon "closet pole".

new pendants
Jul. 5th, 2006 01:10 pmI have a few new pendants that I finally can get some pictures up of. Each one is clay, handpainted, yadda yadda yadda. Although with these I have started using different sealers on them, parts are done in Matte, parts in satin and other parts in a gloss finish to make them different.

cross stitch color combinations?
Jul. 5th, 2006 02:17 pmI read through the memories. I checked all the links there. But everything I find is dead, old, no longer there.
I also posted my question in
stitchers, but there are so many more people here...
I've had an idea in my head for a collection of small projects, but I'm not sure how/where to get it started. I want to cross stitch phrases/sayings for myself and a few friends. I have in my head what I want it to look like. Something small (maybe 4X6"), with simple lettering and maybe a small design or two in the empty space. But all the alphabet stitch books I find aren't what I'm really looking for. Plus, I'm horrible at figuring out color combinations on my own.
Does anyone have any ideas of places or websites I can look for something different than what I've been finding in the stores (I've been in the standard Michaels, Joanns, AC Moore, I'm forgetting the other two or three places I've been)? I'm sure I can find an alphabet pattern that I can deal with, but its really the color combinations that I need help with. Help?

Jul. 5th, 2006 03:59 pmWhile hanging out at work with the bf yesterday, one of his work wives (the 2 girls that I made the necklaces for) sees me making a necklace for a friend's mom and says, "OhMyGod! I saw this thing about crocheting wire! You should SO try it!" (okay, imagine all that in one breathless rush...)
Schmuck that I am, I look it up and - before even trying it and please pardon the pun - I am hooked.
I saw a really neat cuff-like bracelet that had multicolored large-ish beads on it - all "bubbly" like.
They also said to start with those colored telephone wires - what you'd get if you stripped open your telephone cord (LMAO! Who has THOSE anymore?!).
The point is: Has anyone ever done this "crocheting with wire"? Is it as easy as "they" say? I mean, it LOOKS pretty cool, but....
Are the supplies costly and is it time consuming?
Thanks! :D

Jul. 5th, 2006 04:27 pmHaven't made an update in AGES. Finally collected everything I've crafted in the past two years or so and took photos. I'm just missing a wreath that I couldn't photograph because my memory card was full.

I have an idea for a cross stitch pattern to use with the afghan stitch idea like I posted a few entries back. I can easily get the graphic and would like to know if there's a program online that will create the grid for me so that I can make it. It seems like I had a link for one, but I can't find it anywhere. Or is there a way to do this in PSP7?
The idea of doing it on graph paper is daunting, so here's hoping modern technology comes through!

Teacher's Gifts
Jul. 5th, 2006 05:29 pmSo, I wanted to make my daughter's kindergarden teacher a gift at the end of the year - and I did. I wanted to show off the bracelet and card I made, cause, y'know, I like making stuff and showing it off *lol*

ooh, an ltwftw!
Jul. 5th, 2006 09:04 pmSo, on Saturday I saw The Devil Wears Prada. When I saw this outfit, I thought to myself, "Myself, you need a big necklace with things dangling off it."
Actually, I need a big necklace with things dangling off it like I need a hole in the head, but I decided to proceed anyway. I took a couple plastic necklaces I thrifted ages ago and never wore, "borrowed" some bits from a necklace I haven't worn in years, threw in some jump rings and a key (my friend gave it to me, I have no idea where it came from... but it's neat!) and came up with... this. I can't decide how I feel about it - it may need some tweaking or to be flat-out disassembled and forgotten forever, but it was worth a shot, right? Maybe?
( Pictures? )
At the very least it gave me something different to wear today!
Comments, suggestions, and general opinions make the world go 'round. Be a dear. Or a deer. Again, your call.

pendant finishing
Jul. 5th, 2006 09:12 pmi have some fused glass pendants (sorry for bad pic..i usually take pictures in the daytime, but its evening, and i used the flash. looks sooo yucky!) that I want to turn into pendants. I need a bail or something, I intend to glue one on... my question is, what type of bail would glue nicely onto these so they look professional? if someone can post a pic or a link to a website or something like that, that would be really awesome. Or other ideas for finishing them? I've tried wire wrapping, but I haven't been happy with the results. I think a bail is really what I want...
here is a link to demonstrate the kind of finished product i have in mind.. however the pics don't show the back, so i can't get a really good look at how the bail attaches or even what style it is exactly..

Jul. 5th, 2006 09:58 pmHey, how is everyone? I wanted to tell you all what I'm working on at the moment. I don't really think it's a craft, but I wanted to tell you anyway. I have come up with an idea for one of the message boards I'm on all the time. It's for a band. But wanted to have people send me letters for the band and I wanted to make a ascrapbook. 2 of the members are going to meet the band and they are going to give them the book. But then I decided that was more work than I think I'll be able to handle, so I started looking at custom book printing. I found this site: http://www.lulu.com/ I was just wondering if anyone here has ever heard of or used this company. Or if anyone knows another similar company.
thanks!
Leah

Jul. 5th, 2006 09:59 pmOkay, I want to start screen printing tshirts. I checked around the memories and looked at a lot of different tutorials so I think I am finally ready to go out and buy stuff to start. I had two other questions though for anyone who screenprints. And if it helps I live in Michigan, we have Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and JoAnns right around us.Firstly, the screen fabric I've found around here are 85 holes/inch and 125 holes/inch. I'm wondering how much detail that these are going to get me? And if it isn't very good do you know of any sites that have good screen fabric for reasonable prices? Also I was wondering if any of you guys knew of a really good brand or emulsion solution and a store or website that sells it? And how far one bottle goes. Thanks everyone!

Prototype hairpins
Jul. 5th, 2006 10:58 pm{ First off, let me apologize for the not so great photo. It was dark when I took it & my Photoshop-fu is way off tonight. }
Here are some hairpins I'm working on. These are the prototypes for what I hope will be some really nice hairpins.

I have a few questions though, which I'll just type out in list form for organizational purposes.
1) I ran out of E6000 & used this very liquidy glue called Loctite 404 (which resulted in me getting a ton on my fingers and nearly glueing them together. haha!). Have any of you used it before? Is it as strong / strudy as E6000? I know time will tell, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has used it and enjoyed the results.
2) If you've never used it, what glue would you recommend? I've used E6000 before, but the fumes are KILLER and I have four dogs to worry about when it comes to thing like that. It's kind of a hassel to have to go sit on the drive way anytime I want to glue something.
3) What do you think of 'em? =) If you couldn't make them yourself would you purchase them (I'm not trying to sell them here, I'm just curious as to whether there's a market for these types of hairpins)? Are they aesthetically pleasing? Etc.
Thanks in advance for any response!
