my friend Amy W. (the one who made me the sequinned sacred heart in the icon) and i walked into a store in Napa called Wildcat about a month ago. there were these rhinestone heart pendants on ball chains that we thought were hot. they wanted $68 for one. HAW!

so with materials i already had (aluminum foil, polymer clay, micro glitter and rhinestones), i started this:

i'll finish the sides tomorrow.

This is mostly a vent...

Is anyone else really tired of seeing the word "vintage" splashed across everything? Everywhere I look it's "vintage" this and "vintage" that. I could have just bought it yesterday, but it's got that great "vintage" feel. I am just so sick and tired of the word vintage! RAAAHH!

Ok. I swear I'm okay now. Almost.

RAAH!

So question...
I painted this shirt for my beau for an Elvis Costello concert (i'll post pics soon) with some kind of fabric paint. It says to iron it to set it, but when i tried that with another shirt it ended up looking like I had burned the crap out of it even though I only ironed it for like... a couple seconds. Anyway, I'd rather not ruin this particular shirt, since we actually got Elvis Costello to sign it (score!), but does anyone know of any fool proof paints and setting methods to use in the future?

Hi, sorry if this question has been asked before, but I checked in the FAQ/memories for this but I could not find any results. I also tried googling and I had no luck.

I'm trying to make a circle skirt made of tulle fabric/material. It's that light mesh-like fabric that is semi-stiff (at least the kind I found at Wal-Mart, is). The material is not like regular fabric, so I was wondering if I should take some precautions when cutting and sewing it? Such as, is there a certain type of thread I should use for tulle?

I want to make this skirt poofy and with volume, sort of like a crinoline skirt (if I am using that in the right way). So, I'm planning on using a few layers. Perhaps 3-5 layers. Then I plan to line it with plain black cotton fabric, and use the same fabric to cover the tulle. So basically the skirt will be in this order: cotton, tulle, tulle, tulle, tulle, cotton.

I've never sewn a circle skirt before, and I'm so lost.

These are my measurements for the skirt I want to make:
Elastic waist: 24-30 inches
Length: approx. 18 inches

I hope someone with a good heart can help me, thanks in advance!!! :)

Alright, I'm seriously bored and I have NOTHING to do. Will anyone please give me ANY KINDS of ideas of craft projects I can do today?
But please no fabric/material/sewing stuff. I cannot do that just yet. Haha!

Hello everyone!! I'm Cece and I'm new here. I need some help though. I'm making my boyfriend a Richard Hell t-shirt for his birthday. The image I wanna use is on the computer and needs to be printed out. What is the best way to transfer the image onto the t-shirt? I was thinking of using iron-transfer paper but over time it usually crinkles up. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I really want his t-shirt to last a while. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

For my GCSE art I need some examples of silk painting, applique and applique that has been worked over with stitching, beads etc. I have tried googling, but I cannot find anything very helpful or appealing. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can give me some examples of their own work. It will be fully credited if you also give me your name. Thanks for your help.

So, I was looking into spinning, and I saw the post with instructions for makeing a drop spindle out of old cd's and a dowel.
http://www.livejournal.com/community/craftgrrl/3108506.html

But, I am just not getting a good visual, and I can't seem to find any pictures of the finished spindle.

If someone could point me to a picture of this, I'd be grateful.

I made my first bag last night. The seams are still exposed on the inside but no one will really be looking at that anyway. I made it big enough so that I can carry my school books in it instead of having to use a regular bookbag. It's not perfect or anything but I'm quite pleased with the finished product.

I am so excited about this project you guys and gals!
I have been wanting a dress with this étoile (victorian scenes) print for awhile now. I finally found a fabric I liked (in the quilting section) so off I went! This was made for a mother/daughter fashion show we went to today. I took lots of pics so tell me what you think!
In my opinion, it's the most well sewn garment I have made yet. If I make another one, I think I need to use boning cause the top slips a bit.

Lace sweetheart neckline, invisible zipper, lace at waistline, swishy skirt part.

I'm so damn frustrated >.<

I started to do a duck tape purse, I went and got the duck kind? But my local Walmart only had the silver kind...so I started to work on it... doing the bottom and the sides in silver. Today I went to the dollar store and yeah they had duct tape in other color than silver. I went YES! and bought black, blue and red duct tape.

So I decided to make my two front panels black... ... ....

Man it was CRAP, it was thinner,it stuck to my scissor, it wouldn't cut properly, it snagged easily making ugly bumps. I have just walked away from >.< and I'm not amused. Compared to Duck tape brand Duct tape that one was CRAP. so steer clear away from DURAMAX Duct Tape >.

This is how I spend my sundays :D Sewing up a treat. I started this at about 11 this morning, finished it to where it's at now by 3. It's made from lovely lightweight polar fleece so perfect to just throw on for chilly summer nights. The seams haven't all been finished properly, but all have been sewn with zig-zag for extra security. I've yet to hem the cuffs and add some kitty paws (like removable mittens) which I should get done tomorrow evening with any luck. I've decided not to put a front fastening of any kind at the moment, just see how I like it without... if I put any fastenings on it will either be a large zip or one button at the bust area. First time I've ever attempted anything like this, I didn't work from a pattern. Advice and constructive criticism appreciated ♥

I really wanted a nightstand-type table for my dorm room, so my dad built this table to my specifications, and then I had the brilliant idea to decoupage it with comic strips. I saved up a couple of sunday newspapers and then just went at it with the mod podge. I was planning to coat it with some polyeurethene for extra sealant, but I couldn't find a good place to do something that needed serious ventilation, and the mod podge seems to be waterproof enough, albeit sticky.

Ok, I have a very important question... I just bought some stretchy fabric which is going to be used as a bikini. It is a striped material, and I was wondering if I had to cut on the grain or if I can cut it diagonally so that it will be symmetrical and cool lookin. It is indeed a KNIT fabric not a woven one.

Does anyone have experience with doing this? It's a pretty expensive fabric.

Any help is appreciated!

Has ANYONE found a sewing pattern for women's pants that they really like and stand by?

There's zillions of great patterns for shirts and skirts and skorts and capes and dresses and hats and ARGH, but I've never found a pants pattern that I liked.

Granted, I've found some great patterns for MEN'S pants.

Due to popular demand, I decided to make a tutorial on how to make my ever-so-popular starburst wrapper wallets.

These are fun and easy to make, much more so than duct tape wallets due to their colorful-ness and that being starburst wrappers they are waxed, so mistakes are undone easily.

-Warning- Extremely Image heavy -/Warning-

By the way, the original post of my starburst wallet can be found at http://www.livejournal.com/community/craftgrrl/5570430.html

Stenciling

Okay, so if stenciling works better when you put contact paper on the stencil, do you apply it on the side that will be touching the fabric or the side that's on top when you put it down on a shirt?

It's supposed to illustrate the word "Roundabout" for a school project. When I looked it up in the dictionary to get the full definition, it mentioned something about carousels and Merry Go Rounds. I hope you like it! (The horse hair is made out of handspun yarn from My Paper Crane by the way, I'm not sure if it shows up well in the scan or not)

Alas this isn't very craft related, but I was hoping you'd let this post slide long enough for me to get some help : )

My mom just re-did our kitchen this weekend. The theme is Birdhouses and Americana. Mom has birdhouses above her cabinets, and she has Americana themed wallpaper and border. It's like vintage Americana, more of Burgundy/Cream/Navy Blues. Mom wants to pick up some Americana related items, and I was hoping someone knew of a site/store that might carry something she'd be interested in. Also, by chance does anyone know where I can pick up candles that are red/white/blue themed/colored? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
